It’s good to finally see some vids of your Cammy, James - the Hooligan crossup in the corner was nice. Nice job against Moval’s Blanka - your SA punishes on blocked balls was on point, though any reason you didn’t use your Ultra to punish at all?
Though I have to say Whawhat’s Chun kind of stole my attention - I like that Hazanshu FADCb, heh. And it’s super impressive especially considering that he wasn’t at 100%, playing on a stick when he’s not used to it. I really think that players can be just as beastly on a pad as stick, just so long as they put in the time.
Tell them to record the James Chen concept matches next time your Cammy goes through the gauntlet!
Yeah. I’m old and my reactions suck. Hahaha. Yeah, those are simply missed opportunities, 100%.
Yeah, WhaWhat’s Chun is really good. He’s definitely an up and coming player. He caught me off guard with those Focus Back Dashes on the Hazanshus every time.
But I have to be honest, I think one of the reasons he can play so effectively on a pad is because he’s using Chun. Chun requires VERY little crazy command inputs, so it suits pad players well. But then again, I may have egg on my face again because I heard there was an AWESOME Viper player that used a pad at Season’s Beatings 4, and I would have completely imagined that Viper would be the perfect example of why Pad Players could never perform as well as a stick player.
Yeah, that was on the side machine, so it wasn’t streamed. Only Station A, the “pro” station, was streamed. The players I played against during the Concept Matches are all good players, but definitely not at the same level as WhaWhat and Moval and shgl and Valle and Tatsu and Ken I. and UltraDavid and such, which is why I think i ended up doing so well there. That and one of the reasons everyone wanted to challenge me was because they never get to play against Cammys! So a lot of my shenanigans worked on them because they had never seen them before. So I definitely benefited a lot from that. Had people been a lot more familiar with Cammy, I honestly doubt I would have won nearly as many matches.
After watching, It kind of felt like the chun and the blanka didn’t know how to play against you. I think you’ve gotten a lot stronger since the last time we met up. I noticed 2 things.
The Spiral arrow FADC TKStrike was used a lot. I’d go for the throw at least a few times… The mixup doesn’t work if you only go for 1 option…
Ultra the blanka ball. You would have had him in the second round. You can ultra a blanka ball even if it hits you.
Stay classy James. We’ve got a solid Cammy player in SoCal
Oh yea 1 question: I’m starting to implement the cr. mk -> SA more in my game too. I noticed you use the move pretty often. It almost feels like you’re throwing it out there at random. Is it random? Or are you reacting/anticipating a counterhit?
Does Faux go to the casual sessions too? I really want to make the drive up one of these days…
That vipers name is wolfkrone, known as Philpot too! I’ve played him once at a ranbat and won but yes… He plays not even on a fight pad as far as I have seen. On 360 this fool uses the XBOX controller and uses the damn analog stick lol. It was my first tourney i went to when i placed 3rd and I saw him practicing in training mode and he was doing cr.mk to ultra on the analog and it kinda made me go O.O on the inside lol (I was tryin to stay cool to not show nerves). Our match was close though, and ima play him again hopefully soon. sry to derail the thread lol

Agreed on both accounts. That was the first time I’ve ever played WhaWhat and Moval (with Cammy… we previously fought Gief Vs. Blanka at Denjin), and I can almost guarantee it’s the first time either of them have ever played against a Cammy who knows what she is doing.
And yeah, since you and I last played, I definitely feel like I’ve improved a whole lot. I think it mostly had to do with just my confidence with Cammy. Before, I was always so tentative because I thought Cammy kinda sucked. But these days, I’m not scared of any character or player. Giefs and Rogs still rock me wild, but I look forward to the challenge now. I want to get better at those match-ups despite the huge disadvantage.
Yeah, I have trouble with muscle memory problems. Sometimes, when I get too comfy doing something, I have trouble NOT doing it. I could never break the habit of FADC into Throw when I was trying to integrate the TKCS after FADC, but now that I’ve finally gotten comfy with the TKCS, I have trouble reverting back to the Throw. So occasionally, I have to consciously stop doing that and actually remind myself to Throw.
Okay, after HITTING me I did not know. That’s really good info. Thanks!! That changes a lot!
This I can’t really explain. I wonder about it myself, sometimes, but it honestly feels like I can kinda almost TELL if it’s gonna hit now or not, like I can actually react to it connecting or being blocked… which is ludicrous, since my reaction timing is HORRENDOUS, I’ve admitted that my whole life. But I dunno. My success rate on landing it when the opponent gets hit is like 80%… I definitely land it a LOT more than I get it blocked and get punished (though that does happen quite often as well). Plus, I think I tend to risk it more these days because I CAN always FADC it to save myself, though sometimes I do it even without any meter so I end up getting screwed.
Yeah, I can’t really explain it. It’s like back in the Third Strike days when the top Ken players would get really good at Low Forward into Shippu, like they KNOW when the forward is gonna connect. They rarely got it blocked, and they comboed into it often, and it doesn’t even have the same kinds of leeway as Chun’s Low Forward into Super in Third Strike.
You totally should, but you’ll have to RSVP first, just FYI. It’s tons of fun. I went one week just to see what it was like, and I have gone back EVERY WEEK since then if I’m free. I look forward to it all the time.
c.MK xx SA is that staple from SF2/HDR! I still (over)use it because I can’t get it out of my head that c.MK is actually a terrible poke in SF4 after its awesome status in other games.
so i had NO FUN playing against a runaway Seth… his strategy was:
jumping backwards + the occasional air HP = infinity!
throw sonic booms (and double SBs) from across the screen…
ops reached the corner time to “mix it up”… he keeps jumping back still… if i move forward or do any kind of movement he teleports… or WALL JUMP!..
and repeat the above… from corner to corner!
i won 6 matches in a raw… (thinking this could help me against runaways in general!)… then i receive a message from the guy saying “this game is garbage!.. fight me in Tekken 6, loser”…
I haven’t played champion mode in months, and I had about 4 rage quitters the other day lol. 2 Sagats, a Gief, and a Bison. I only manage to take one picture though since this was the only one I thought was worthy to take a picture of.
Poor Sagat, I guess he couldn’t take anymore TKCS. haha
Got back from another night at shgl’s. No stream this time, so no video evidence.
But I didn’t do so hot this week. I started at Station A and got mopped up by just about everyone. Well, they were all close matches, but I lost all of them in the end, except my first match against UltraDavid’s Gief (which is weird, since I originally thought Gief was Cammy’s WORST match-up). I thought I was all ready to go after winning that, but it ended up that I lost barely to Sanchez’s Bison, to Gooteck’s Balrog, I lost to Slick, who I beat like 8 times in a row last week, Valle’s Ryu destroyed me as usual, and… well, if I played them, I lost to them.
Got demoted to Station E. I did well there, but lost twice to the same Ryu player, one of the Ryu players who beat me last week (I’ll get him!! Grrrrr!!). So I did well in the side station. But casuals started up at the end, so I got a chance to run it back with some of the guys who beat me. I went back to playing other people, and managed to beat Gooteck’s Balrog and Double K.O. with Sanchez’s Bison. So maybe I just needed more time to warm up (literally!!! It was freezing!!!). shrug
Anyhow, overall, pretty poor performance. Disappointed in myself for not doing better in Station A. I’ll have to pick it up next week.
I made it to station A this week I beat everyone 'cept a Honda player. It wasn’t even close
I’m gonna take out ShadyK next time!
Oh 1 more thing. I’ve been playing ps3 championship mode for a little while now. I’m at 800points yay. Should I feel bad using Sagat on 3 bars and lower? There’s something about doing forward r. house -> forward r. house -> Ultra that makes me giggle.
Should I feel bad about using Bison when people try to intentionally counter pick with guile, gief, or rog I play mostly in player matches atm? Cause I have to say I really don’t feel bad about it lol.
in player match when ppl just wait for me to pick cammy then counter pick i go for seth and start sonic boom spam runaway teleport lameass so i can LOL @ them. its actually very fun
