In case you saw it in your local shop, and was curious, but didn’t want to part with the cash. Good art, touching story…but don’t get too attached to the characters. I was curious about this graphic novel for months, but, you know…funds and all.
A whole lot of yapping of everything I saw and did at the New York Comic Con in the later posts in this page, lots of Marvel and DC news revealed at the show and stuff. Zeph you gotta read about the guy cosplaying as The Question asking DC why they… well just check it out.
We are Men Together Today. I didn’t think that Batman comic would suck.
I will buy and read The Spirit. COOKE is too good. The only question is how long is it gonna take DC to put out the collected edition?
That is the truth, baby. Pride Of Baghdad has gotta be one of the best comics of the past few years. It’s just so good on so many different levels.
On Comic Book Resources, they said that Stuart Moore is writing TF/NA, with Tyler Kirkham pencilling. I’m trying to think of what I’ve read by Stuart Moore. He did a story in Dark Horse’s Escapist anthology; it was one of the longer stories and I remember it was pretty decent. I tried reading his Firestorm- that was straight garbage.
Kirkham, I think, is one of those Top Cow house style guys. I’m not really down with that, but I ain’t gonna buy the comic so who cares what I think.
You know who I’d really want to see write Transformers? I’d love to see Warren Ellis or Grant Morrison write that stuff. I read some of the new IDW comics and Simon Furman has officially become the Claremont of Transformers.
I still have some old school Marvel Transformers comics. I got the issue where black suit Spider-Man teams up with Huffer or Gears and fights Megatron. If this new crossover has Doctor Doom Vs. The Carwash Of Doom, then I guess I’d buy it.
I saw a FF2 billboard on the way to work today. It was very cool, just a giant shot of the Silver Surfer racing at you with the word ‘RISE’ in the top left corner and the FF logo in the bottom right
Byrne has some remarkable artwork but man, is he a jerk. I wouldn’t say I’m a fan, but I do admire his work. As a writer, I don’t know how he stacks up, though. Wiki says Man of Steel and Birthright are the official origin of Superman. 'Course wiki isn’t always 100% reliable but I’d still like to check out both books anyway. I loved Byrne’s work on the '80s X-Men with Chris Clermont.
Sometimes I wonder why companies feel the need to go back and rework origins of comic characters. I’m not even sure how many times Superman’s origin has been retold. But when the retelling is good then there isn’t anything to complain about. But when it sucks, there’s a lot to complain about. I never read Spider-Man Chapter One, but I heard it sucked major anus. Guess Marvel thought that since Batman and Superman’s origin got reworked and went well, the same could be said for Spidey. Nope. Thankfully they decided to drop Chapter One and go back to the classic 1962 origin story. Don’t screw with a good thing.
sano, have you checked the latest issue of Spidey Loves MJ?
Just out of shear fandom. It’s not really good. Or… it’s so bad it’s hilarious. Crazy stuff like Gouki(Akuma) and Mr. Karate riding dinosaurs, people lossing limbs and getting better, people coming back to life, Ken getting his brain and heart removed from his body and then repaired and put back in all via machines.
The artwork is really good. It helps if you have a sense of humor about the book and don’t take it that seriously.
To their credit, at least they tried to use Street Fighter’s actual story. Most SF Hong Kong comics have Ryu and Chun-Li married, Ken as an alien, Chun-Li, Alex and Blanka as Vega’s(M.Bison in the US) kids and all sort of nutiness…
Hong Kong comics are really different from the stuff we are used to and tend to work on shock value, so they get a little nutty. Some of the stuff like Storm Riders and the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon books are great though.
Reggie - Well I’ve been out for a few weeks and a bit busy here and there so I don’t know if I missed a recent issue. Last one I read Gwen Stacy kind of blabbed that Spidey had a secret.
Not repaired…made BETTER. Red Arremer’s blood must be like some super-steroid or some shit. Can someone explain to me why Ryu’s moves are weakening in the Ryo/Ryu fight (and probably past that…I only have that one book)? Please don’t tell me it’s some lame shit like “Ryu doesn’t believe in his attacks anymore, so even if he does them perfectly with 100% full strength, they only do a fraction of the damage they’re supposed to.”
Bryne is infamous for being a douche towards anyone that does not agree with his views. I admit his art dtill holds up pretty well and his run in FF is pretty good his writing though is his weak spot. Also Chapter One sucked hord yet theNorman’s return story and on, sucked bad.
Yeah Ryu doesn’t have faith in himself or some BS like that.
Ryu gets punked in the entire book. Ryo beats him up, Sagat beats him up who Terry defeats with ONE PUNCH and the biggest disgrace - HE LOOSES TO DAN! Gouki does give Dan some power so he can defeat Ryu, but still… IT’S DAN! Ryu does finish up strong at the end when he defeats the Goddess Athena though, and she defeated Shin Gouki before. So in theory at the end of the story he is very strong. Um, some of this stuff hasn’t come out in English yet but I don’t feel I’m spoiling much at the turtle’s pace that they are translating this book - it will be finished by 2010 the way things are going…
I suppose it’s a trade off. In the Hong Kong CVS comic Ryu defeated Ryo with one drop of water. In Masahiko Nakahira’s short CVS manga Sakura defeated Kyo which is just ludicrous…
I guess if it’s SNK’s game like SVC Chaos is, SNK characters are gonna own. If it’s Capcom’s game like the CVS ones, Capcom is gonna own. Seems like that’s how it works.
SvC Chaos is HORRIBLE. I really feel like it might be one of those things that’s so bad that it crosses the negative zone threshold and actually becomes entertaining because it’s such a unique piece of garbage.
I have no idea what kind of person translates that shit. Whoever’s translating it deserves a raise, for sure. The writing in SvC Chaos is so unintelligible that it’s gotta be the work of some kinda genius. It’s almost like there’s no hint of irony at all. It’s also unintentionally humorous how every time a guy does a special move, there’s these big letters that say the name of the move.
I still think Byrne ain’t anything special. Uncanny X-Men would have been just as good with anyone else drawing it. I mean, Byrne had his moments but he peaked artistically back in '82. His recent stuff was terrible- there was that JLA vs. Vampires story, The Demon, Doom Patrol, the New Atom… Yuck.
And his writing is even worse than his drawing. He has absolutely no sense of humor. Everything he writes has the same, overly serious, melodramatic tone.
well if u been reading the last couple posts about how horrible it is i don’t think u wanna know because if the first one pissed u off ur eyes are gonna explode off of the rest!
We don’t care. We know it’s bad, but we still want to know what happened in the other volumes. I hope you don’t feel like we’re trying to mock you for liking something we don’t like. We ain’t all of us Psycho Gorath!!! No seriously, SvC Chaos may suck, but it’s a good kind of suckage. I only wish all crappy comics could be as entertaining and amusing as SvC.
Agent X was dope, man. It’s hard to track those issues down! But they were pretty funny. My old roommate managed to find most of them, so I did have a chance to read it. I wish Marvel would have collected all that Gail Simone Deadpool/Agent X stuff. And that Udon Taskmaster mini.
I also liked 1602. I guess some people don’t care for it too much, and I know it’s no Sandman or anything, but it’s still a really good story with wonderful art. I didn’t read the 1602: Fantastick Four comic, but I think Peter David wrote that… Maybe sano read it?
As for Exiles, I’ve read that on and off. It’s really fun at times, and I admit that I am a sucker for alternate universe-type stories. I think I’ll lose interest in it once Claremont takes over writing it.
Well if u didn’t like SVC i guess u’ll hate KOF becuase it’s the same artist.Iunno if the same writer but it’s the same kinda thing.I have all of SVC in Japanese and only Vol.1,2, & 3 of American version i think 4 is out now.Ummm i don’t have any of them with me though becuase i didn’t want them to get damaged going back and forth from America to Canada. The only fight I can re-call was Vega and Terry.I’m not sure if Vega won but it looked like he was bussin Terry’s ass I remember seeing a picture of Vega hangin from a wall by his claws and carrying Terry who seemed to beat-up and knocked out by the shirt.
I’m Reading Fantastic Four 1602 right now.Great read.I like how they did Doctor Doom.
I like Exiles becuase u never know who’s gonna join the team.It has the most ridiculous roster ever.
I got all of Agent X which I think ends at issue 25 for 5 dollars.great read.It reminds me alot of SF and Darkstalkers comics cause of the art style.I didn’t like though that another artist kinda takes over halfway through and shit kinda sucks. What is funny about it is how they make fun of other marvel characters throughout the series.I remeber when Taskmaster and Agent X were sparring and he was wearing that tight ass Captain America shirt and using his shield.
