Other Publishers and General Comic Book Discussion Thread

EVERYONE knows that Iron Man was Villain of the year. He was robbed…

Zephy - You watch Veronica Mars? Christ, I thought I was the only one who watched that… did you see Mr. Mars bag that big breasted lady what’s her face he used to mess around with on Just Shoot Me?

New Excalibur was my favorite comic this week. Juggernaut is on his return to greatness, and the book starts off with his lowest point ever. Juggs getting his ass kicked by the Wrecking Crew oooh…

Damn straight, sano, I watch Veronica Mars. Except I haven’t actually watched any of this season’s episodes yet, so easy on any spoilers, eh buddy? I’m taking a Tuesday night class and I’ve been downloading and stockpiling the episodes… Y’know, Brubaker has said, on several occasions, that “Veronica Mars is the best show on TV.”

Word to your mother.

wow…the preview for the jeff smith shazam reads like a 50’s comic meets disney. i cant wait for it to be released.

my girl took my stephen king book in the plane over thanksgiving so I had time to get caught up on some graphic novels. Let me just say that the Power Girl tpb might not have been the best choice to read beside her.

Beast Wars: The Gathering (IDW) - this graphic novel is really nice, it has an embossed front and back cover and includes character sketches, full page cover gallery including the alternates and promotional two-page cover. The art throughout is really, really nice and you really want to just stay and stare at each page for a while after you finish reading. The story has its positives and negatives but overall is fun and imaginative and lays the groundwork well for an ongoing. The story takes place during beast wars but focuses on a whole new cast of characters that have come to the planet one or two time-ticks off from the maximals and predicons so essentially they are like ghosts. This plays out pretty well but can get confusing at times in regard to the rules. Because of this approach there are a TON of new characters constantly being paraded about and it is impossibly to keep up with them. Not all of them are animals as Furman and Figueora fuse some of the weirdest animals together (a killer whale and a wooly mamoth?) to varying degrees of success. The main badguy is Magmatron who is very cool visually in that he is a kind of combiner - his robot mode breaks apart into three seperate beast modes: a pterodactly, plesiousaur, and tyrannosaurus. Also Ravage from season 2 makes an appearance as well as an old G1 favorite with great effect. Unfortunately, there is no real counterpart to Magmatron on the maximal side, which leaves somewhat of a leadership hole. Overall great tpb though, and looking forward to more.

Since the new suit is gone now, who won the spidey pool?

The Spidey fans 'cuz we don’t have to look at it anymore!

I don’t know… wasn’t Lint running that? Did they delete the old thread already? I think he lost track of all the comics that new outfit was in or something…

Oh yeah I forgot to mention Wolverine last week. Dude was regenerating his body after he was reduced to a skeleton, that was funny!

In regards to NA #22 I dont think that it was a bad as it seems. Based on overall story I think that it was good. I did like his line about slavery as well. However since I only read the marvel civil war comics and black panther. I dont know about anything else. Is anyone going to pick up Ms Marvel # 9 and #10. it is the big showdown between her and rogue.

For the next issue they were promoting Ms. Marvel vs. Ms. Marvel. I know we don’t do the versus thing around here but I have a feeling that Ms. Marvel is going to win…

Well basically it’s another Ms. Marvel from another reality that still hates Rogue, fighting the current Ms. Marvel from our reality that has forgiven Rogue. You still with me? :looney:

The only thing I didn’t like about NA #22, is that it cemented the pro-registration side as being villianous FAR too early and concretely. Other than that it was indeed a good story.

I actually grew to accept the Iron Spidey suit and I found its exit to be weak as hell. After all the shit it was supposed to be able to do, a little bullet proof glass tears it all to shreads.

Damn.

Ever, hook a brotha up with what I’ve missed.

Okay guys, I need some advice.

I only read Ultimate Spiderman in trades, so I haven’t touched Clone Saga yet. Not one page. Not one spoiler.

But the fucking trade doesn’t come out till after Feburary!!!

Should I hold out and wait to read it in the trade, or buy the individual comics??

You might be able to still find the individual issues. Although, I don’t know if #100 sold out though.

That bit about him crying because his comic book creations came to life during the X-Men movie was touching. Died in his Superman pajamas, that’s a true comic book fan right there. RIP Dave Cockrum.

ShinkuuR-

Wait. I was in a similar dilemma w/ Civil War. I could go out and get all the individual issues, or I could just wait a few months and get the TPBs. I’m choosing to wait because I typically prefer TPBs (most of the time they include additional content/director’s cut material). Also, having one solid book collecting 7-12 issues is convienent.

If you’re a true collector, then by all means, get the individual comics. If you’re just an above-averaged reader, then TPBs are the way to go.

Just wait. The reason the trade won’t be out until feb is because the arc isn’t even finished yet.

I know…but see, I’m a USM addict, and waiting for this arc is over so I can collect the thing is torture to me.

I guess I can find some more comics to read in the meantime…but after I finish Alias and The Pulse I’m gonna be out of material…

Anyone read that What If : Spider-Man - TheOther? Fucking Epic. PM if you want that shit.

I also came across that older Aliens vs. Predator vs. Terminator 4 issue series. It was suprisingly interesting. Great approuch to a “story” melding the three movie monsters.

Teen Titans Go! artist Todd Nuack draws a bunch of TT comic book characters Teen Titans cartoon style - these are sooooo cute! Lovin’ Superboy and Perez costume Terra! :lovin:

Ok now I’m off to buy comics. Onslaught is back! Too bad Liefeld’s drawing it… ack, the torture oooh…

EDIT: Man just got Onslaught Reborn, Rob’s artwork is as horrible as ever… at least Onslaught actually does appear in the comic and it’s not a tease as far as I can tell from breezing through it… well I like Loeb so the story should be tight whenever I get around to reading it…

aw come on shinku, february isnt even that far off, like RN said, the arc isnt even over yet, and has the tpb for the previous arc even dropped yet? I love ultimate spider-man but I only buy the hardcovers so I havent even read anything beyond the Warriors arc yet. Hell, I’ve got to wait for two hardcovers to get to clone saga, and seeing as how the previous one just dropped then vol. 9 probably wont be solicited until september at the earliest.
