whew

While the grooming may be true, the fans wouldn’t allow for it. As much as we want it, at the same time, we can’t let it happen because EVERYONE just got used to Bruce Wayne and feel that him being Batman is just…you know…something that just has to be. It’s his legacy and it should die with him. Machismo factor and all. That’s my take on it.

I’d dig Grayson stepping his game up and taking the mantle, but, he wouldn’t make the best Batman. He’s too soft in a way. That’s how the character has been brought up through the years.

DiDio did sacrifice a lot of good material just for shock value. Which kinda sucks. Can’t argue with that. But, who knows how this next event will shape out.

If DC had balls they’d kill off Bruce.

Then have Dick replace him and turn into a cold no frills mother fucker.

That would be hot.

Yes, please take him away from Beechen. Like the future Tieen Titans arc they has a while ago.

Fuck that, tim is a punk ass bitch.

Just have dick get really mentally ruined by the death of bruce.

Bruce went nuts because his dad died, and Bruce is basically Dick’s father, so it would all work out.

That would be so sweet. Have dick become a complete recluse and just have him destroy all the crime in the city out of anger. Have bats leave the wayne fortune to Dick as well.

It all would make perfect sense. You could have all new Batman year one stories. The rogues would all be like “Batman is different”, there would be so many angles and stories you could construct.

They tried it once. It didn’t take.

I don’t remember batman dying.

When did that happen?

I think he means Knightfall ot Prodigy.

In the first Wayne’s back was broken, and Azrael became Batman. In Prodigy, Grayson took the cowl for a while

And about Infinite Crisis/Connor dying: That was a way to avoid paying creators money for use of the word and character Superboy.

Yup, pretty much what I meant. DC was really trying to push Bruce out of the picture, but I personally think this conflicted heavily with the recent release of Batman: TAS, which was only making the Batman series more popular in general. The mid-ninties were a really… weird time for comics.

I know, but it was also away to tie up a ‘loose end’ i.e. A teen that wasn’t aging with the other teens, and would never live out his destiny.

it also brought back the multiverse (crap), killed off a lot of good heroes (double crap) fucked up a lot of others (triple crap), and shit on a lot of legacies (quadruple J-Hook with classic taper)

I figured.

Bruce has never died though. Maybe I need to just become a comic book writer and make it happen myself.

It’s funny how Nightwing’s fans like myself care more about Nightwing than DC does.

Didio wanted to kill him in the last Crisis he admits that he just didn’t get the character. So he wanted to kill him.

I dig Outsiders, but Nightwing gets punked in there again and again. Taken out by a poison dart? Jason Todd ready to blow his brains out with a gun to his head? Well some of it can be excused of course if the Nightwing on Outsiders does turn out to be Jason Todd like a few people are thinking. Which would be really funny, when Supergirl was crushing on Nightwing on her book a while ago, that would mean she had a thing for Jason Todd.

And really DC, why put Frank Miller to write Batman and Robin? Everyone knows he hates Dick Grayson, he’s not exactly shy about that. He had Batman toss him in the Batcave when he found him and told him to eat rats. And, um… hey DC, did you read Dark Night 2 and what became of Dick Grayson there? I’m not going to go into a whole DK2 bit whether you like it or hate it but would you let this guy write Dick Grayson? I wouldn’t let him touch Grayson with a ten foot pole(but I bet you Didio would…)

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love Wolfman’s writing in Nightwing, MUCH needed improvement. But what is basically going to happen under Wolfman is that he will be popular with the ladies, people in his comic will like him and he is going to beast on a whole bunch of newbies not proving how strong he is. They won’t have him take down a major gun like say, Deathstroke because the way things are it would just decrease Deathstroke’s popularity.

This is if Wolfman / Nightwing history repeats himself. Lots of people have written Wolfman that they do want to see him beat up SOMEONE major in the DC Verse to give him the props he richly diserves. We’ll see when his next arc begins. The arc he just did was mostly to repare a lot of damage done on the book so now he can enter new ground (well as much new ground as the powers that be at DC let him get away with…)

He is supposed to be one of DC’s best fighters after Batman, he just doesn’t get props like that. Hell even Green Arrow gets to take out Deathstroke with an arrow to the eye and Nightwing never does anything big like that.

So really, fat chance of Dick Grayson becoming Batman for even 2 seconds under the current DC administration.

I think he would make a good Batman, but I see him as a much more, ‘sane’ Batman. He wouldn’t make being Batman his entire life like Bruce did. Even Batman’s death would not turn him that way. He would still fit as a Batman though, if you look at Bruce in any of his books right now they are softening his character a bit after the Crisis. Why he even said “Thank You” to a fellow JLA member! :wow:

But again, he is a little too likeable. Like I always say, because he lost his family early in life he is always looking for that dynamic in his life which is why he works well with teams, because of this he even has better leadership qualities than Bruce. Writing him like Batman, well that’s a problem in itself. Lots of writers like the hack that is Devin Grayson write him like he’s junior Batman, it just doesn’t fit. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but I haven’t seen it.

Heh, in the Batman and Captain America crossover Bats fought with Cap during World War II. Then later in our time when Captain America was found in ice he was discoverd by Dick Grayson who now was Batman and Bruce’s son became Robin. Well, in a perfect world…

y-you’re…GASP…METAHUMAN!

That’s a nice way of saying omega nerd, so thanks!

What you people are forgetting to remember is that Batman is “the genius”. Not a genius the genius. What makes you think anybody could possibly kill him? As far as I’m concerned Bruce Wayne/Batman is immortal until proven otherwise. Even if the impossible happened and it might look like he died it’d probably just end up being some clone or robot or something.

Why would he retire anyway? He’s still the most powerful superhero ever. That’s like telling Michael Jordan to retire at 26. No chance in hell. Anyways Nightwing is not smart enough to be the next Batman. So what if he knows kung fu? He isn’t the absolute genius that Bruce Wayne is.

Lol. Batman dying. That’s a good one.

Batman never needed to prep with a clone or a robot. Batman only replaces himself with himself. But, I definitely agree with matrix here. He’s too prepared to let anything happen to him. Ever since the Knightfall arc, Bruce has taken EVERY possible countermeasure into account and, thus, is ready for anything to happen to him.

BTW, Bruce is 33(?). And you’re right, Nightwing isn’t exactly the genius that Batman will EVER be. But, Sano does bring up a good point about Dick making a much more saner Batman.

WAIT!!! Time Paradox!!! When Loeb was writing Superman/Batman(bare with me people), he DID bring Batman Beyond into continuity. So, where does THAT fit? Different Earth or is it the actual DC future? Because if it is, then well, you know, it goes down just like Batman TAS + Batman Beyond.

Fuck that. Batman with no prep time will be slaughtered by half the DCU and MU.

With prep-time, people will always swear he’d beat jesus and god.

Ozymandias with prep time can kill Batman with prep time

Must… resist … the urge… to argue… Batman… vs. everbody…

Can we PLEASE not turn this into a prep-time debate now. Thurst might be reading this for all we know and is ready to post at any given moment. And then we’ll all laugh because of the truthiness of prep-time and go back to our ways.

Batman did beat Darkseid to a standstill with prep-time in Superman/Batman. He wired the entire planet to asplode and Darkseid was all shook and shit. Batman can beat you psychologically AND physically with prep-time.

He probably packs ramen noodles in one of his utility belt pockets just in case.

Like a recent comic book writer put it but I’m drawing a blank who it was right now I don’t think Batman is that smart. He is still a genious in his way, but let’s face it. He’s not curing cancer or creating portals to different dimensions or anything like that. What makes him a genious is that his entire life is being Batman. He will learn everything about everything, travel to the ends of the Earth to learn some random crap that he can pull out of his butt when it counts and learn everything about everybody and every villain in order to take anyone down. Nightwing / Dick Grayson isn’t like that. He has a life. Bruce has a, ‘pretend life’ where he acts like a playboy, bangs random broads to keep appearances up and visits his company that practically runs itself once in a while and that’s it. Nightwing works jobs, pays bills and has real relationships with women. Again, he’s more sane. So he could never be that kind of Batman - or that kind of genious if you want to put it that way. If anything, Dick Grayson would be a Batman that was closer to Terry of Batman Beyond. No one can really be Bruce Wayne. And really, they shouldn’t. He’s cwaaaaaazy. But that’s why we like Batman too.

That’s not a good measure. Your logic is flawed. A bunch of the things he does eclipses (IMO) medical miracles. You can’t just arbitrarily apply feats to him that he hasn’t done to disprove his intelligence. he hasn’t cured cancer because he hasn’t tried to. Einstein didn’t cure cancer either. Using your logic, no one who has ever existed was smart because there’s always something I can apply and say they haven’t done, without regard for what they have done.

Batman is smart as shit. There’s basically two types of intelligence: deduction and memorization. The fact that you admitted he has learned and has the capacity to learn anything he sets his mind to makes him a beast at the latter. His reputation makes him a beast at the former. You don’t get to be the world’s greatest detective by being an idiot (solving a crime that your memory was completely wiped of? Bananas.). What exactly is he lacking?
