Other Publishers and General Comic Book Discussion Thread

I disagree. for the past 30 or so issues it hasn’t been worth shit like ultimate x-men and ultimate spider-man. I think the new direction they’re going with is pretty interesting, and the last 16 issues they’ve done have been really awesome. Todd finally got somebody in there that can actually tell a concise story. He couldn’t do that before. You could tell there was a frame work for what he wanted, but he had no idea how to actually get there.

Wouldnt be the first time I’ve done that:lol:

Even though I agree with you on the art issue, I got tired of the style of spawn a long time ago. It does piss me off when they use a shitty artist in punisher and wolverine. I cant keep up with the artist but for a time there, I just wanted to quit reading b/c of it.

Yes, demons are great. When I want to get away from the superheroes I just read Testament.

really? maybe i’ll go then. i would like to have my day of judgement issues signed by him.
i know i’ll be there in may for sure when our lord bru shows up.

btw do they sell long boxes at isotope?

aww c’mon clinty. you can’t hate me that much. i mean, i let everyone know about your love of origin. why would you hate me for that?

Civil War the Return , I picked it up…doesn’t that break the timeline for stuff coming up?

Did you get the all white cover or the snappy Varient?

My List:

Here’s the link about The Boys being cancelled.

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=98812

It says that the rights have reverted back to Ennis and Robertson, so they should be able to bring it to another publisher at some point. One obstacle is that Robertson is a DC exclusive, so he won’t have time for The Boys in the near future.

Maybe he’ll draw an upcoming issue of 52!!!11 Oh, yeah!!! (Kool-Aid man style.)

Fuck that.

I don’t think Isotope sells long boxes. The money they save from not stocking storage boxes is spent on sponsoring people like The Bru, Jim Lee, Morrison, and Willingham so they can appear in-store. Or something.

I don’t know how many people are gonna be at the Tope this Saturday. If there’s a hell of a lot like when Lee and Morrison were there, I don’t know if I wanna wait in line for hours just to get a signature and say hello. Hopefully there won’t be a mob.

Don’t worry Clinty- you may’ve jinxed Tony Allen the Celtic, but Tony Allen the drum god (from Fela Kuti) is doing well. The Good, The Bad and The Queen just released their album this week. DIG IT

Shade and Uncle Bunk If you guys like reading Dark/demon type books then I highly suggest (and Ronin agrees on this one) to check out Preacher.

I’m still at the beginning first few arcs and so far I’m loving it as a 100% Smokin hot ass babe. That’s how much I digg that series right now.

Also today when I saw the cover for Criminal 4 I  irl for Sean Phillips making Roy L.T. like Michael Clarke Duncun.

X-Factor this week had me remembering why P.A.D. writes Madrox so well as a character. Seriously he gets underatted alot though, they should have his ass doing a defenders book he’d make it hillarious.

Hey also I was reviewing all the shit that’s all happened in 06 that was big in comics. Now of the most stuff that came back to my mind was how alot of cats with families got screwed.

Like Flash, Daredevil, and Superboy.

They all were building up a family type term and THEN BAM!!! The writers decide to screw them all over, now for Daredevil’s situation it works well but for guys like flash it sucks ass imo. Really did wally have to die and did flash HAD to change writers??? I think that alot of the writers FEEL that when the character develops a family/marriage and shit like that they LIKE to kill them off.

It’s as though they only want to keep the characters always being young, single or just having no connections at all. Which imo is lame cause some OF the characters with families don’t really need to be killed off, IT could work if the writers added the right flow to it. Though I feel as though they think it’ll never be able to work. It could of for Wally BIG time, he was in God tier before IC, then IC comes and “OH noes we gotta reset the whole universe again TIME to screw the characters with families over.”

Like WTF is up with that shit??? If anything they could of gave it at LEAST one shot but decided “NO they have to go.” Well that’s all I’ll bitch about on the issue but does anyone else agree with me???

Why, hello there, happy thread!

Not this year my friend. '05 was the year DC struck HARD and left Marvel in the dust. And maybe part of '06(leading upto Infinite Crisis and the first few issues of IC). '07 has been a stinkfest from DC. The One Year Later stuff hasn’t been the most entertaining of stuff. Some of it is doing well and is ACTUALLY referencing Infinite Crisis and updating while some of it is still just there for filler purposes.

Marvel has Brubaker. That’s enough to make DC books print in black and white. Hopefully DC can manage to pull some magic out of their ass this year.

Green Lantern Corps
JSA
Green Lantern
Detective Comics(only because its Dini)
Teen Titans
JLA
Nightwing
52(no brainer)
Trials of Shazam(which is hella delayed)
Wonder Woman(which is also hella delayed)

So far, those are the only books worth reading. And only a few of them are referencing 52 and what happened during Infinite Crisis.

I am so there that it’s like I’M ALREADY THERE. Future Carpet Lint says it was awesome.

This also probably not a good time to reveal that I also picked Tony Allen the drummer off waivers for my drummer fantasy team. I have no idea why I picked Travis Barker up - that’s been a complete bust for me so far. Only Matt Cameron’s keeping my afloat right now. And I got Max Weinburg like a month ago - nothing flashy, but he’s like the only guy that puts up consistent numbers pretty much every single night. And there’s value in consistency. Plus every so often he goes off on the rest of the league and puts up killer numbers whenever Springsteen’s in town.

…it’s…uh…it’s a keeper league.

I also like comic books very much.

…so retarded.

I don’t know how y’all do it. Fuck conventions and any time of signing. The nerds just drain the cool out of you. i can’t see myself walking up to any comic writer/artist and playing fanboy. I don’t even do that when I meet rap stars or athletes. Not knocking those of you who do, but I just can’t see it. It’s just another man.

So would Evo mean the same thing to you as well?

Cause that’s what comic conventions are more like in a way imo, to have fun and meet new people.

That’s imo though.

You MAYBE able to get an autograph from some big time writer or artist that will go BILLIONS on ebay.:bgrin:

Really I don’t see no point on that bandwagon period, if the guy’s dope then ya I’d like to talk to him as a person not as a holloywood star or how they like to make everyone at conventions and shit.

It’s fun sometimes. I’ve stood on line with some cool cats before shooting the shit about comics and overall life. Alex Ross, Frank Miller, Jim Lee, John Ney Rieber, John Cassaday and Pat Lee at Midtown Comics. So far the Pat Lee signing was the best signing ever and it was free.

Although, I will agree with you that they’re just another man like anyone else. But, it’s fun to do something that you could never do as a kid(for me at least). I have a pic of me and Jim Lee somewhere in my comp. I do it for the fun and to actually meet the artists I grew up admiring and shit.

Meeting cool people and chilling? yeah, that’s cool. You can do that with anyone. Running up and being like OMG! BRU! HI2U! I LOVE YOU! is another thing totally. Still, to each his own. haven’t gotten to my box yet. :frowning: I rode by but decided not to stop because I didn’t see homeless mom’s van and I promised DS I’d try something.

OH, most definitely. I try to remain as cool and collective as possible because there’s nothing worse than being asked a billion questions. All of the artists and writers I’ve encountered at Midtown Comics has usually been just me coming up to them and being like “Yeah, I love your stuff. Keep up the good work.” I keep it simple. But, I definitely agree with the thing about certain people going overboard.

Oh God, you’re still gonna do it, aren’t you? If only there was a video for it. I think that would make it the best thing ever. Just ask her about the curtains.

NY Comic Book Conventions suck except for the New York Comic Con we had last year that’s coming back in February and the con we had at Jacob Javits years ago. There’s a few smaller / underground shows like the Mocca Cartoonists show if you want to check out people who made comics by themselves, those are cool. But the rest of them kind of blow. Honestly when I went to the NY Comic Con last year most of the time I was buying old comics for cheap, buying new comics / missing comics, sitting in on panel discussions with Marvel, DC or whoever shows up, watching anime or any cartoons / movies they are presenting. I’m not really there for signatures. Standing on line sucks and the lines at cons are ludicrous, you get tired even standing on the line to get into the con and that can be a hassle too. I did get some SF sketches from Studio Udon but the lines for that were not really big. When I went to the old Jacob Javitz Comic Con back in the early 90s I was able to get all of my books signed really easy without the long wait that you have to indure nowadays.

Yeah, when I did meet J. Torres and Bru at Jim Hanley’s comic shop this year and last there wasn’t really any lines for them except for a few people so it was easy to walk up to them and talk with them. Lines suck…

It’s funny, whenever I’ve met rappers or celebrities all I’ve ever said was “Hi!” or “What’s up so and so!” and that’s about it. Don’t really care about getting their autographs or even taking their pictures like some people. I guess for me when people are writing for characters you’ve grown up and read for so long it’s more interesting for me to talk with them for a bit. Though I usually keep things brief and move on.

Last Feb’s comic con was fun, albeit poorly planned. You were screwed if you didn’t prereg on saturday.

Yeah it was poorly planned. They really underestimated the number of people that would show up. They started selling online tickets hella early this year to avoid the headaches. We’ll see what happens this time.

soo… eddie brock is not venom anymore?

when did that happen? actually what happened with that.

can someone give me a rundown?

You’re super late. =P

Basicly, it was recently retconned that Eddie has cancer. The symbiote kept him alive up until now. Eventually, the symbiote felt Eddie was just too weak, and it ditched him. It’s now bonded with Mac Gargan (Scorpion).
