Other Publishers and General Comic Book Discussion Thread

Cool, thanks for the info. The other reason was because I know I can find better prices online. Sounds cool, check this out sometime soon.

The penicls were done by Zircher. Udon did colouring I think. That was till issue 24, since then it hasnt had a regular artist, but that should change soon.

It’s worth it, but I go with trades for C&D if you’re tight on cash

Ha ha I aim to displease. And I am ashamed of all you for not reading Alan Davis Excalibur, but I digress… :badboy:

Adam Warlock is right. Wolverine >>>>>> Cap. Civil War and Brubaker Cap has done brainwashed you. In the 80s this might of been a tie when they were around the same stregnth level but they have given Wolvie a power boost since then and his healing factor is now broken, he can heal up from being reduced to a skeleton now, freaking crazy. Not to mention, Wolvie’s jobber aura. The man cut Onslaught with FREAKING BONE CLAWS! Too damn broken…

Anyway for power on Avengers they have Dr. Strange, they can write him as big a threat as Thor or Sentry if they want to.

Just going by their powers, I’d have to say Wolverine.

Captain America and Wolverine are both well trained in terms of martial arts/fighting ability so that would pretty much be a draw. Cap A, can get some long range damage in with his shield, but I highly doubt it would hurt Wolverine much in the long term due to his adamantium skeleton and his healing factor. Once they get in close, they’ll both tag each other with a few hits (Cap will probably tag more as he does have better defense as he does have a shield). Cap A can’t hit Wolvie with his fists at peak strength. Cap is only peak human and the bones in his hands would fracture against adamantium. Therefore Cap has to rely on landing hits with his shield. The biggest problem is that Wolvie’s hits are going to make Cap bleed, while Cap’s hits are most likely going to make Wolvie bruise (they may make him bleed). As the match goes on, Wolvie’s healing factor again comes into play while Cap will be struggling from all the cuts he has received. Eventually Cap will go down.

Well since I’m already getting hate here for my Bru interview I’m the one who has to say it, right now I can’t get anymore hate anyway. We really don’t do versus here or anywhere at SRK period - read the first post on this thread. Yeah I participated, but so what? Nerd tendencies got the best of me. :looney: If you must have a say in this (like I did, yes I am the pot calling the kettle black) make a closing argument and lets all get back to disowning me for my Bru interview or something before the mighty mod hammer slams down on all of us…

first two C&D trades are out of print and go for $$$ on ebay

although i keep hearing they are supposed to be reprinted at some point

Bru said X-Men was his first team book? But he wrote The Authority for an entire year. I guess his X-Men run is so epic, he forgot his own bibliography. Just another example of Brubaker’s majesty.

Y’know, I met Brubaker once, before he got all famous and Painy started his bandwagon cult. This was back in like the summer of '04, when Sleeper Season Two was launching. I played him air hockey for a chance to get Sleeper #1 for free. The bastard barely beat me (7-6). If I were a lesser man, I would have complained and said that it isn’t sporting to score the final point when your opponent is tying his shoe, but I took my loss like a man.

He still signed a bunch of my books, though- I got my Sleeper v.1 and 2TPBs, Scene Of The Crime #1, and Point Blank TPB signed. Brubaker likes to make word balloons when he signs, because he made Grifter say my name. My buddy got Sleeper Season Two #1 signed, the cover where Holden is standing on a car shooting his guns, and Bru made him say, “Jon must die!!! Love, Ed Brubaker.”

Who’s a bigger Brubaker fanman now?? Huh, tough guy? Mr. Cerise Biznatch!!!

I played AIR HOCKEY with THE BRU

It seems like comic creators sign everything these days. I wonder if they’d sign my hard drive.

Zeph - Lol I’ve never claimed to be a bigger Bru fan than anybody. So why I’m being shunned for not being such a Bru fan is odd… Doesn’t anyone remember I’m a member of the Foibles Church - Bru is just a skootch overrated and Fables blows?

Anyways I still hate the fact that he bought freaking Bucky back to life. I hate comic book ressurections in all shapes / sizes / forms. I hate Whedon for doing it with Colossus too. Not that I hate the body of work of either, but I freaking HATE comic book ressurections with a passion, so freaking stupid… it just makes it pointless to kill off anyone in the first place because some writer is just going to come along and overturn what you did anyway. (See Morrison’s X-Men work). I’m more of a a Peter David fan than anybody (best comic book writer ever damn it) but him still bringing back Alternate Reality Uncle Ben still urks me… but at least it’s not the real Uncle Ben. Yes if you must bring someone back alternate reality version, someone inheriting the secret identity, a lookalike brother / relative long lost or not like Thunderbird / Warpath - there are a bunch of ways to do this without cheapening the character’s death. And don’t get me started on Jason Todd and Superboy’s alternate reality bending punches…

Meh… I will never understand why people want ressurections… if you want to read about Colossus, Bucky, Hawkeye or whoever there are TONS of back issues that you can buy nowadays for next to freaking nothing seriously, check your comic book shops bins and you’ll be shocked - without having to cheapen their deaths with another lame-o ressurection. Let the dead stay dead I say. And if the characters have been dead for more than one decade like Bucky and Norman Osborne dear lord please let the dead stay dead. For characters like Thor you can always have a new Thor instead of bringing DB back to life. Sorry, not even Bru is beyond my hatred of stupid ass ressurections. Blarg…

OH TEH BACKLASH OF SANO HATE!!!11111

This man might as well have dined with Jesus.

I’ll take the versus argument heat if the ban hammer comes down - WUT RONIN CHAOS!?! WUT!?! Bring it.

Back in the 80’s I think Cap would have completely mollywapped Wolvie. Cap was wailing on everybody - doing stuff like taking out that android (I forget his name) that had the combined powers of all the Avengers (I guess like the Avengers version of Amazo) - push it to the late 60’s and 70’s with the old school Avengers, and Cap was out wrestling Thor, Iron Man, and Giant Man at the same time.

As far as I know, Black Panther’s something like 1-2 against the Captain.

On paper, it leans towards Wolvie because of his power set. I’ve admitted as such. But Cap’s regularly beats so many guys that are so superior than him on paper that it’s just gotten to like expected behaviour now.

It’s kinda like this…(and reason #6,562 why I love sports) - you got Tom Brady and Belicheck with the Patriots who are - let’s say for the purposes of our discussion - fielding the generally inferior team in playoff match-ups. Yet that team-up is like 11-1 all time in the playoffs.

Peyton Manning and the Colts - for the purposes of our discussion - have the superior team. Let’s say in Madden 07 (I don’t actually know this because I don’t have the game and I don’t follow football as well as I do for the other three) they have a higher rated offense, higher rated defense, higher rating overall. You sim an entire season, Colts go like 14-2, win the Super Bowl. Patriots go like 10-6, bounced first round.

And then in real life, they both go 12-4 and - let’s say hypothetically - the Patriots beat the Colts for the Super Bowl.

Or like how the last four meetings between the Leafs and the Sens have been with the Leafs holding like an eighth seed and the Sens first in the league with the President’s Trophy matching up in a seven game series, and on paper, in a video game - you simulate the series, Ottawa should be 4-0.

…and yet in real life they’re 0-4.

And let’s say EVERY YEAR they meet up and EVERY YEAR Ottawa’s got a better regular season record and a better team on paper.

And let’s EVERY YEAR the Leafs beat them again. At what point do you stop betting against the Leafs?

Well let’s say…Cap matches up against so many guys that should beat him because they’re stronger, faster, more skilled, have more powers…and he should be something like 7-139,723,562.

…and yet…he’s 139,723,567-2.

At what point do you stop betting against Cap?

Ignoring all that - you could even prove with a landslide of evidence that Cap’s stronger, faster, more agile, and more skilled than Wolverine. All Wolvie’s got on him are the bones, the healing factor, and the knives sticking out his hands.

So on paper…it isn’t really that much in favour of Wolvie to start with.

Man ive been out of thanks to ff12 and WoW, can anyone catch me up? last thing i read was punisher carrying spideys whupped ass to the resistance hq. is civil war still going on?

You’re only one issue behind in Civil War. #6 is out now and #7 is supposedly coming soon, next week I think.

That’s how comic books are though, it’s a fundamental fact of the genre, just like how suspended belief is necessary to enjoy Flash or Superman fights that don’t end in two panels.

I’ve always figured that if it works for the story and it’s done in a sufficiently enjoyable or clever way, then let them do what they want with their characters. Case in point - Colossus’ return was fucking aces, turned Marvel’s most awesome book even awesomer, and I never really enjoyed the way he went out either.

I know Bucky being dead has been like the one constant of comic books for the last like forty years…but the book’s been enjoyable enough so far that it doesn’t really irk me. At least there’s a point and use for bringing him back, you know?

But if a character is killed off for no reason (Psylocke) in a badly written comic (X-treme X-Men) by a poor writer (Claremont) due to editorial pressure and goof-ups (…Jemas?) for no point…then that’s bad. Even worse is when you bring them back again…again…in a bad story, for no point, with no purpose. Then you wonder…why even kill them off in the first place? Then it’s just like a cheap grab for attention - what’s the point of caring about someone dying if you know they’re just going to come back in five or six months? (Magneto) You do it enough, and the quality of all stories in all books drop because you’re lowering the standards of superhero comic books all across the board by not only keeping in line with stupid stereotypes, but you’re doing it so blantantly that you’d almost think it was a parody if you didn’t know any better.

Speaking of Bone…who’s jumping in on that Shazam! book with Jeff Smith? I have a small feeling that book’s going to kick ass, and I want in.

Also, Spider-Man: Reign with Kaare Andrews, one of my favourite creators of all time? Anyone on that? I don’t know what happened to his art - his usual style’s a lot cleaner, very stylized, pretty cartoon like. I don’t know if I approve of all these…colour gradients and attempts at conventional anatomy and whatnot. I liked him better when shit was crazy.

By the way, is Geoff Johns on Green Lantern awesome, or is it just me? This is my new Flash.

“You have the ability to instill great fear. Welcome to the Sinestro Corps.” HOLY SHIT that is so cool.

Yes of course if it is done better - like Bucky and Colossus - it’s better - I just generally don’t really care for it.

Re: Psylocke - Claremont didn’t want to kill her in the first place, his hand was forced - he himself stated that killing her was stupid. But even when he killed her he left a huge out for the character - Crimson Dawn powers plus she visited Bishop in ghost land too, he really didn’t need her brother’s powers to explain bringing her back after Marvel’s 5 year ban on ressurection but eh… I’m not saying bad about Claremont until his medical condition gets better out of respect for all that he has done for the X-Men over the years - get well soon and start writing Exiles with Psylocke already darn it! I had to get my Psylocke fix last month in a stupid ass X-Men / Stormwatch crossover looord…

Whereas Colossus was dead. Beyond dead. There was no real out in place. And as brilliant as Whedon is you still have to take a dumptruck of salt to believe that some aliens can get past the greatest psychics in the universe, Prof. X and Jean to sneak his corpse away from them. Well, I really can’t blame comics because every time a ressurection happens sales go up… even I buy them sometimes 'cuz I want to see how stupid and / or brilliant it will be…

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying - I think editorial stepped in and messed his story up, but it wasn’t particularly great to start with. The just made it worse - it was never going to be “good.”

What’s wrong with Chris Claremont? (Like…physically.) He’s insane now, but he’s still responsible for two of the greatest comic book runs I’ve ever known in my life - 80’s Uncanny and 90’s X-Men. Hope nothing’s wrong with him that a break from writing comics won’t fix. (Then it’s a win-win!)

And clearly sano, that Colossus was an IMPOSTER. End of story, case closed, mystery solved, elementary my dear Watson.

Actually I think #7 is coming out Feb 21.

Oh sorry, I edited that other Colossus out of my post because I didn’t want to open a can of worms ha ha! But there was another guy that appeared, an American who looked exactly like Colossus and had his powers. So they did have some way of returning the character back without el-ressurecto. Well I guess forget he existed, like that clone of Gwen Stacy that’s still out there after the Clone Saga.

Last I read Chris Claremont had heart problems - cardiac stress I believe it’s called. He’s fine but still recovering, I won’t feel that he’s 100% until he comes back to writing comics. When he returns he’s supposed to take over Exiles w/Psylocke.

Civil War comes out in Febraury? Another delay? WAAAAH! :crybaby:

DA GAME was pretty much done with X-Men after that happened along with other things.X-Treme was OK until the writing started getting shitty & the artwork was …ugh(after Salvador LaRocca left)Psylocke was one of DG’s favorite characters in X-Men not to mention in the Marvel games but it was pretty understandable that Claremont’s hand was forced to do that.

Marvel has kind of slacked off on some things.DA GAME doesn’t follow the Civil War storyline but has read & heard good praises about it.The 2nd volume of She-Hulk has definitely fallen of the ladder. The 1st volume when it came out in 2004-to mid 2005,it was good but when the 2nd volume came out it was like: "What the fuck is this I’m reading?"It seems as if Marvel is more focused on Civil War than the other titles. The Ed Brubaker written Captain America & the X-Men issues were very good but everything else is kind of so-so.DG still waits patiently on the Jeph Loeb/Joe Mad Ultimates & the run Loeb will have with Ed McGuiness after Joe Mad is done.

DA GAME has to start reading Green Lantern again. After reading about the Sinestro Corps in a Wizard issue of DA GAME’s that was stolen at work, that team is evil personified especially the Killiwog equivalent.

i still dont know how kilowog came back to life…

Yeah Psylocke is one of those characters that fans like her but writers hate her. It is kind of difficult for any writer to get past the Ninja Slut thing and take her seriously. That’s why she was purposely absent from the original Age of Apocalypse. Claremont writes her the way he writes all his females - like he wants to sleep with them. Which is kind of… I’ll be nice and say a funny way to write females… Well, for me it strangely works for Psylocke but I can’t explain why… As for his writing on Storm, Rogue… um, just come back soon Claremont back to being 100% before I say anything bad… man even talking about the man’s writing nowadays is almost an institution onto itself, like talking about Rob Liefeld’s expert command on anatomy.
