It’s “Azzarello.” Personally, I think For Tomorrow is a far better story than Hush- but Hush is a better outlet for Jim Lee’s art. Azzarello writes a lot of scenes that require the art to be subtle, and Jim Lee’s style is the complete opposite of that. He can draw a great picture of Superman punching Wonder Woman, but he needs to practice drawing two people having a simple conversation in a single room.
I’m not too old, but I definitely support the Batman/Catwoman hookup over the Batman/Talia thing. You ever read Son Of The Demon? The OGN where Batman sleeps with Talia? It’s a pretty bad story. Now, compare that to the BRUBAKER run on Catwoman. Much better, baby.
Speaking of Catwoman, did you guys see that latest issue where the father of her child is revealed? I just kinda flipped through it, but this seemed like the weakest issue of the One Year Later thing.
Okay Son of the Demon was bad I’ll give you that. I just don’t see any logical reason for Batman to hook up with the clepto - okay maybe a reformed clepto since I don’t follow the character - Catwoman other than “ZEX!” Not that I care for Talia being written as a lunatic during Morrison’s run either… I wonder if Batman still has Vicki Vale on speed dial?
Still for me Talia and Batman are very similar. She’s traveled around the world and trained just like him, she also ran organizations (including Lexcorp for a time much later on) much like Batman/Bruce Wayne. The two have a lot in common.
Ohs well it’s not like Batman will ever be happy with anybody anyway… maybe he can just drop some more babies lol! I suppose he can always have a baby with Catwoman and make Birds of Prey the troof ha ha!
Lol I always had a theory that Dick Grayson bagged Catwoman in the DC Animated Universe and that’s a big reason why he and Bruce don’t talk to each other in Batman Beyond. Well, she was pushing up on him later on in the series. Oh snap too much free time on my hands…
Speaking of, I don’t know - Who is the daddy of Catwoman’s baby? Use Spoiler Tags if you must… I know it’s not Batman because it’s too obvious. I bet she did a Xena - instead of making Hercules the father because it was too obvious Xena got herself pregnant, when she was in heaven Callisto’s ghost went inside her and made her pregers! It can happen!
Man, I hated For Tomorrow. What the heck was that about? I still didn’t even understand the story - Superman creating a robotic world of Krypton in the Phantom Zone and Zodd was involved, um - WHAT? The entire thing went right over my wee little brain. Oh and that fake cyborg Wolverine sucked, but I don’t know who should get more of the blame for whatever that was, Jim Lee or the writer… but I agree with what you say that Lee can’t draw people having a conversation in an interesting way and that didn’t help things much.
While your post may have some accuracy to it, I still consider Dark Victory and Long Halloween to be up there. Those are the only two Loeb-written Batman stories I can stomach. Spiderman: Blue was pretty good in terms of his Marvel writing.
Haha, yeah, how about Catwoman’s baby’s father, huh?
Most Loeb/Tim Sale comics are very good. Loeb just needs to write a decent script and Sale does all the heavy lifting. Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Superman, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Challengers of the Unknown are all really good. I never got around to reading their Hulk story, but it looks good. The only Loeb/Sale comics I know of that stink are Wolverine/Gambit and the stories in the Batman: Haunted Knight TPB.
Hulk: Grey was pretty damn good as well. It’s one of his better works. I never really got to read Daredevil: Yellow. Although, I might be able to find the hardcover to that one.
Oh, and regarding Catwoman’s baby: That shit was SOOOOO obvious. You just had to read the first 30 or so issues of Catwoman to get the gist already. It was coming(like that character that got her pregnant) and we ALL knew it.
Well, I did. Rep me fools. I KNEW THE SECRET!!! =p
Glass: Just buy Daredevil, because reading summaries doesn’t do it justice. It’s well worth your money and time(or bandwith, whatever lol). This reminds me to pick up the Daredevil: Father trade this weekend.:wgrin:
I can’t really hate on Hush, since it’s art(and reading Ultimate Spidey) are the ones that got me interested in reading mainstream comics again. Ironically I can’t find my Hush GN’s anywhere, and I’m not really in a rush to look for them.
Best comic I read this week was Annihilation. Ronan goes on a killing rampage, sweet!
52 also had some uber violence this week, a REALLY violent death… Amanda Waller is still playing people… and Clark Kent cracked a funny.
Justice League was hella interesting.
Detective Comics was good… yet a little creepy. That wooden dummy Scarface always creeped me out… I was glad that he was dead, kind of. But he’s back and it’s still creepy… I dunno maybe creepier than before…
Huh, Ninja Scroll is still going on? I thought last issue was the last one. Well it’s nice that for this issue they weren’t rehashing the movie like the previous story arc.
tons of tpb’s are now piled up to read. currently working through Punisher: from first to last HC having read The End and The Cell, both awesome, and Exterminators vol. 1 which is pretty good so far but not the extreme awesomeness every seemed to be saying. in the queue is avengers galactic storm vol. 2, runaways vol. 2 hc, the first 3 rucka wonder woman trades, magnus rf vol. 3, gotham central vol. 1 and jonah hex vol. 1
Anyone check out the new Hedge Knight hardcover? That’s the one based on a George R.R. Martin (fantasy writer) short story. I haven’t read too many of the Dabel Bros. adaptations, but The Hedge Knight was really, really good. I’ll probably buy this new hardcover because I already gave my old TPB to a friend.
I forgot to mention this last time I posted, but Loeb/Sale’s Catwoman: When In Rome is very sexy. The story is only average, maybe even a little below average, but the art’s Tim Sale at his peak. When In Rome has gotta be one of the prettiest comics I can think of.
So, Flash #7 came out yesterday. I keep torturing my vision by reading it. It only gets worse and worse as it goes along. When is that Guggenheim guy supposed to show again? Because I can’t wait any longer. I can’t believe I’m supporting horrible writing. I’m doing this because I love the Flash. But, when the writing doesn’t love me back, what’s the point? Inertia needs to die. Superboy Prime needs to punch down a wall of continuity real quick and end this current run of the Flash.
CRIMINAAAAAAAALL!!!1111!!!1 #3 was awesome. The character interaction between Leo and Greta was just awesome. Shit’s going down. And then I think my favorite character made his appearance: Roy-L-T. That name is genius. I’ll admit, I lol’ed a bit when I read it. BUT, things happened and someone got shot point blank in teh brainzorz…I love this book.
Ultimate Spiderman #103 was fucking insane. I loved it. It was nuts. All over.
i just bought pride of baghdad. i hope this book is good. i will read it this weekend. too tired to do it now. also, ronan is a fucking badass. i wasn’t expecting him to do what he did. annihilation was easily the best book of the week.
now remember, if you aren’t reading this then you are doing yourself a huge disservice. stop reading shitty fables and read annihilation. (besides you lint. you need to stop reading and rereading wolverine origin. it’s ok; there are other books out there that you will like…but then again maybe not)
I gotta get that Punisher MAX HC as soon Borders sends me a coupon, man. Did you get Rucka’s Wonder Woman: Hiketeia or just the TPBs of the issues he wrote a few years ago?
I never read the regular series run so I can’t compare, but Hiketeia is one of my favorite Rucka comics. It has art by JG Jones, too. And Batman has an interesting and crucial role, but Rucka writes it so that Wonder Woman is still the protagonist. The premise is basically there’s this one girl criminal who runs away from Batman and invokes some sacred Greek ritual to trick Diana and gain her protection. So Diana and Batman are working against each other during the story, but Rucka doesn’t really sacrifice Batman’s dignity to make Diana look cool.
Oh, yeah, and speaking of Rucka and Batman, I read the Batman: Evolution TPB a while go. It’s surprisingly good. The story is a blend of Gotham crime and Ra’s Al Ghul/Talia action. The TPB collects like 8 issues for only 13 bucks, so it’s pretty cheap, too.
