uh? anime.manga style has not taken over the u.s market…american comics has very few anime/manga styled artists like i can name them on my hands really…american style still rules in the u.s heavily.
I’m not speaking about comics specificly, I’m speaking of American Entertaintment geared towards youth as a whole, which includes comics, movies, toons and the like aswell. The Teen Titans, and Avatars of the world if you will.
its different and thats why its gettin accepted…also if you notice the anime styled shows dont take kids for kids…they treat them a bit more adultly. instead of treating them like idiot kids…kids are alot more smarter than when we were their age and i think they like those cartoons or anime wannabes cause they treat them that way.
thats just a theory.
Oh no, I agree. I’m just as much a fan of japanese influenced work as anyone else. Hell, if you only saw my collection of manga.
Really? Cause last I checked WE had Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Hysteria, Freakazoid, Batman: TAS, Superman:TAS, Batman Beyond, Garfield and a few others that catered to a more intellectual crowd. And last I checked, all of those shows had superior writing compared to the shit that is coming out these days.
Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs and Tiny Toons had references in them that the average kid would NEVER get in this day and age.
Cartoons now are ass.
I really feel bad for the kids today. They are seriously a lot stupider and are going to continue getting more stupid considering what they have for cartoons.
The Batman is such a shitty show compared to Batman TAS.
I mean seriouly, are the people who work on that show really amped about what they are doing ? THe designs are so gay. It’s like they all haven’t seen TAS or they all hated TAS and are trying to make something “edgier” then it.
Imagine if Batman TAS or JLU didn’t have to cater to all the American censorship bullshit ? I mean the shows are already uber tier.
I mean just Animaniacs alone completely destroys basically everything produced in American today easily.
Avatar the Last Airbender and Venture Brothers are the only american produced cartoons that matter.
I havnt really sat and watched Avatar, yet. I was turned off by the very hard asian settings and influences. But from what I herd its pretty good.
Anyway, in spite of Scythe’s warning, I’m all over Hush right now. Its pretty good so far, so I’m not dissapointed.
I finished Atonishing (or caught up rather), and its fucking serious. #19 comes out in 2 days, so I’m all over this.
The more recent episodes of The Batman are actually pretty good, no where near Batman: TAS but I really enjoyed the zombie/Hugo Strange episode. Still the shows best quality of the show is its action, even if every early episode is about selling toys.
Shade: Good luck with Hush, not my cup of tea, but like Bendis’ Avengers it appeals to a number of people anyway.
please? ;_;
I think I saw info on it here, but I could be wrong. Lost the original link, so heres the front page - http://www.manwithoutfear.com/daredevil.shtml
He didn’t really become Kingpin to the point of running the Marvel underworld but more like the feared guy among those people (plus he beat Wilson Fisk on the street Rocky 5 style and declared it in front of everyone). It doesn’t sound very good describing it but it was pretty cool seeing all the previous Daredevil pencillers draw the fight scene in that issue.
As for Foggy
Foggy
Spoiler
he’s not really dead, the story surrounding this is still going on
you can pretty much just say warner brothers doesnt treat kids like kids…thats one studio that pretty much made everything you’ve said. Barring a few. I didnt say all american cartoons do this, but alot of them did, they didnt treated kids as kids. But as the technology got more around kids became smarter at a younger age…its crazy the kids i talk to who are like 8 or 9 but have the mentality of kids who were 13 when i was 13.
Fuck you and fuck Hush.
I thought we were kin Shade. But, I guess not. You have betrayed me by reading Hush. So far, it’s been Loebs worst(second worst goes to the last 6 or so issues of Superman/Batman). It was basically a pop-up book to me with pretty pictures. Doesn’t mean I didn’t buy all of it. But, damn, that was only in part due to Jim Lee drawing orgasms on every page.
Hush made me believe(even more) why the 90’s era in comics sucked SO HORDE! Hush could have been SOOO much better than what it was. It had a few little “oooohhss” and “aaahhhsss”. But, that’s all it really was. And then it lead to the return of Jason Todd, who was presumed to be nothing bigger than a molecule after the Joker blew his ass up. Seriously. What the fuck? But, no. DC decided, “You know what, guys? Let’s bring back Jason Todd back. For good.” And how did they pull that off? OMAIGAWD!!! Let’s have Superboy Prime punch down a fucking wall of continuity and have him revived. Seriously. WHAT THE FUCK?!
Ed Brubaker or Darwyn Cooke should have been writing Batman at that time. They would have made Jim Lee’s run into something a lot better than just making it “Jim Lee Comics co-starring Batman and the Arkham Crew.” Fuck, Greg Rucka(who just so happens to be dead nowadays) should have written the book. Or something. Even though he was on Batman well before Hush happened.
I guess you can consider Hush to be my Kryptonite(beautiful artwork, but the writing was still ‘meh’) just like how Origin is Carpet Lint’s kryptonite.
Well you probably know that I’m a big Teen Titans fan. Even though it was intended for kids it wasn’t like any other super hero show on TV I’ve ever seen. Plus there was just so much mystery behind it. Who is Robin? What was in Robin’s brief case in that episode after the race? Who was Red X? How exactly did Terra come back? Etc. So you did in fact have to use your brain when you watched it at the very least to form your own theories. Where for example, take ‘The Batman’ - it’s also pitched for kids but you can leave your brain at home no problem. Plus TT had really long fight sequences and TT Robin was God Tier / Broken.
The Batman has gotten a little better this year I will admit and they will have an episode where they go into the future and Barbara Gordon becomes Oracle, something they can’t do in Dini/Timm continuity because Batman Beyond went another way. And there was an episode where Penguin formed a group of villains and Ragdoll said - “Why don’t we call ourselves Villains United?” Lol, so it’s getting better. The Batman and Legion of Super Heroes are the only reasons for me to get out of bed on Saturday mornings (and G.I. Joe Sigma 6 too if they didn’t give so many darn reruns…) but I still miss Teen Titans, JLU, Batman TAS, Batman Beyond and Superman.
Oh well there are still those straight to video toons of Superman, JLA (Dini’s involved in those two if I remember right) and Teen Titans (Judas contract by Wolfman, nightgown and cigarrete scene confirmed oh yeah) that are supposed to be closer to the comics. And straight to video prolly means lots of violence, death and unedited punches to the face. Something to look forward to.
Any of you watched Duck Dogers, even though it ended recently? Dini worked on it and it kicked butt. Especially the Green Lantern episode. Lots of adult jokes like Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain too. Paul Dini rules!
Deathy’s hatred of Hush is surpassed only by Clinty’s lust for ORIGIN.
Hush is the epitome of “pop” superhero comics. It’s big, loud, catchy, and specifically designed to appeal to a mass audience. It isn’t particularly well-crafted and it doesn’t show off any of the strengths of the comics medium, but for what it is, it’s not too bad. Hush is a guilty pleasure. It would never crack the top 40 Batman stories of all time but I bashfully admit that I’ve read through the whole thing two or three times, and actually own the two hardcovers.
Everyday, I wake up and punch myself in the face for owning and enjoying Hush. It’s just something anyone new to Batman’s world can read because it’s basically a 12 issue tour of his universe.
It’s not wrong to like Hush, but it is wrong to speak the name in the same sentence as Year One or DKR.
Haha, yea. Thats the perfect way to describe Hush. “Guilty pleasure”.
Heres whats dropping 2maro I’m interested in:
Exiles #89
Wolverine: Origins #9
Immortal Iron Fist #2
Astonishing X-Men #19
Could anyone tell me how Wolvie: Origins is doing? Suckage, ok, good?
wolverine origins sucks. read at your own risk.
hey deathscythe, i think ima get absolute hush; and then get wolverine origin premier hardcover, and i will mail hush to you, and origin to lint. hope you guys enjoy it
Shit, if that’s all it takes, I fucking HATE Hush, Ever. Hook it up.
Shit, I’ll take it. And then I’ll resell it to some comic book rookie looking for a pop-up book.
It started out bleh and got a hell of a lot better after the kick ass Captain America and Wolverine fight. Right now it’s the only place to get an Omega Red fix. It’s also the only book where Wolvie is wearing the fan favorite orange and brown outfit. They dropped one big suprise on us so far with a few minor ones and who knows what else in store. It’s good.
My only real gripes with Hush are the Jason Todd thing and the Batman / Catwoman hook up, maybe it’s just me but I always felt Talia was the perfect mate for Batman and the Batman / Catwoman hook up is just something older fans want and can’t let go of. It’s still the best written book Jim Lee worked on in his recent DC tenure only 'cuz Azarrello’s(name spelled wrong 'cuz I’m lazy) Superman and All Star Batman and Robin are written sooooo badly. Hush is okay to me I guess. DKR1 and Batman Year One good hell no, but Jim Lee’s drawings are purty…
