And no, a retaliatory attack from Al-Queda is not out of the realm of possibility, but this is just as much news to them as it is to us. So unless their response is to just strap bombs to all their members and blow up quickly, chances are they won’t do anything major until they regroup, pick a new leader, formulate a plan for the response, and figure out when and where to carry it out and with whom, possibly training and recruiting for it. All that takes time, in which the US or another country with anti-terror forces could find out about it and take it down.

So right now Al-Queda can talk about retaliation, but are they willing to do it in the state they’re in right now?
