Orlando Pulse Nightclub Shooting: Largest Mass Shooting in US History

Stricter gun laws can bring the body count down, as it has in several other countries.

Gang members will continue to murder

And the availability of weapons

It would be impossible to get congress to agree to takway our guns

You know most of those 12K deaths where due to ha shun violence between gang related minority violence.

Banning rifles would have no significant impact on that njmber

You’re talking about something I’m not.

A rifle ban would bring down the amount of people dead during a massacre.

If you forced every damn state to tighten its gun sales, especially of handguns, you’d lower the number of inner-city deaths being as most of the guns in inner-cities are bought at these shows and then sold off illegally to black people.

The response from the left hasn’t been surprising: blame the gunz.

And of course, if anyone brings up the very real issue of Islamic extremism, they try to deflect the argument at crimes made under the guise of Christianity throughout history, which has nothing to do with anything.

The fact is that Muslims are part of the regressive left’s list of protected groups, so they will never say anything that could possibly offend them.

You can change the laws of this country affecting guns, what are you going to do about Islamic extremists?

If you say war, fuck you. We’ve been at war with the Middle-East since the 50s and it’s gotten worse after Republicans stirred that pot in the 80s. And do I have to mention that every single time a country has fucked withe Middle East they’ve lost, including us?

I already paid taxes for two wars that are still ongoing with no end in sight, do not take more of my money to pay for yet ANOTHER war that we can’t possibly win.

It’s almost like some people cannot understand that you cannot simply remove thousands of years of culture through sheer force of will.

Let’s not even get started on the impossible logistics of such bullshit hegemony.

You where talking about bringing the 12K value to 11 and how 11 is better than 12K. The point of your argument was lowering the total deaths due to guns. And banning rifles would go a long way in doing that.

How where we not talking about the same thing.

Brady Act already makes it illegal to sell handguns to anybody as well, but it isn’t really enforced.

50 of my people are dead and 53 wounded because someone who really shouldn’t have had a gun had one. We can all stop pretending like this isn’t a problem.

The response from the right has been’t surprising either. We can’t do anything about gun violence because something something. Also, lol regressive left. Usually when my people are murdered, it’s by people who are really into Jesus. So, step the fuck off. Maybe if people would stop being shitty towards Muslims, or even people they think are Muslims(Sikhs are not muslim!), the left wouldn’t care as much.

Also I struggle with mental illness. So I have some experience looking through mental health textbooks and the DSM.

Lashing out violently in any sort of planned, structured attack isn’t in the DSM and it’s certainly not an indication of any sort of mental illness.

Saying that it was someone who was mentally ill groups this kind of structured violence in with indications for mental illness. Which, frankly, is bullshit. It’s not an indicator for mental health.

Um I’m just thinking out loud here. But even if guns are banned or heavily regulated here in the US to the point where it’s near impossible to acquire an automatic weapon. Can’t people still commit mass murder via bombing, driving large vehicles into crowds of people, setting fire to a building or place, I.E chucking molitov cocktails into a crowd, etc.

But that hasn’t panned out in any other country. Bombings still happen. London got bombed in 2005, famously, and then there was Paris.

A gun is incredibly efficient and low friction.

Most gun violence tends to be of the sort of individuals in the heat of the moment deciding to go violent and use whatever’s easiest and most convenient. which tends to be a gun. Mass shootings are much more common here, but still rare, but also a symptom of larger issue of gun availability and a culture that decides that violence is the key to solving all of our problems.

Christian conservatives from WestBoro Baptist Church to Pat Robertson to Texas lieutenant governor literally saying Orlando shooter is an agent sent by God to kill gays.

In the Crazy Christian pecking order, even terrorists rank higher than gays.

That is a mental health issue

Normal people don’t try to commit mass murder

So show me the research. What is he diagnosed with? What’s his illness? What’s comorbid with it? I know he’s been diagnosed bipolar, but mass gun violence isn’t a diagnostic criteria for bipolar.

You do know that “mental health” and “mental illness” mean things, and mean a lot to some, right?

Hey guys other options still exist shit we’re all dying anyway why try to make life just incrementally better fuck it just don’t try lay down and die

To get it really down to 11, it’ll take more than just rifles. It would need all guns.

I guess my point is that if someone is going to go and shoot 1 or 2 people, it sucks and should be stopped, but no one should be able to walk into a business and kill 50 people before police are able to take control of the situation.

Hmm no one ever presented the case for gun control like that. Good point. A lot of people do tend to get bold when they feel powerful. And a gun gives you instant power. Most people wouldn’t be so eager to get violent if they actually had to risk getting into a fight as appose to just drawing a gun and shooting. Now that wouldn’t curb violence on a mass scale. Because if someone wants to hurt lots of people. But you seem to be aware of this given the second bolded part. Gun or no gun they will find a way. But on an individual level. It could make a difference. Because a lot of people wouldn’t be so tough without a gun, especially in the inner city.

Automatic weapons don’t exist and cannot be obtained by people who plan on making folks. They have such an absurd minimum in price.

Yeah you going to go toss in 2500$ on a good one or really minimum 600$ like that mossberg

But eh, i got my rifle and those are fun

Assault rifles are only available to state law enforcement here in california…

The guys getting hi-cap mags with their rifles are getting them illegally through third parties

nobody should, but that’s the consequence of living in a society that value choice and particular freedoms. If we really care about gun violence, then handguns should be the only thing being discussed because that accounts for the virtual majority of all deaths, rifles accounting for about 1 percent or less.

I stand behind mental checks and other flags that should bar you depending on the case, and that’s what we should do, but this also highlights the failure of law enforcement as it shows that it can’t screen people properly. The guy was on the FBI list and still got a license to carry and be a security guard for federal buildings, felons can’t get guns, why should somebody who’s been on the list for terrorism can. And this is where the stupidity of the right starts rearing its stupid head and makes being pro gun really hard.
