The Orlando shooter fired a hundred or so rounds over the course of three hours. He didn’t just spray and pray and be done with it. You could do that with a few handguns if you wanted to skip reload time.

Yeah, the gun law thing is a useless topic right now. I would like this thread to post more info about the shooter (what his motives really were, shit like that), maybe some witness accounts, survivor talks, etc… I find it interesting that some of the stuff about him is reveling him to have been actually gay.
Far as I can tell, it doesn’t mean that he was gay it means that he was scoping the place out.
But it’s still early so who knows.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he was struggling with the fact that he was gay. I knew a dude that did everything in his power to try and change the fact that he was gay…even going as far as to verbally insult gay people to make himself feel better. At the end of the day, though, he was still gay. This dude was probably wrestling with this fact and thought something like this would prove his worth.
One of the victims was a young girl from my area. She was a 17 yr old HS basketball player that just graduated last week. She went to Orlando to spend time with friends and now her family have to make arrangements to bring her home and bury her. Shit is sick, man.

What I put in bold is rather disingenuous or at the very least quite poorly phrased on your part. We both know there are many anti-gun people in America who are that way because of the loss or losses they’ve suffered at the hands of handguns and who talk about it a lot; it’s just that it generally falls on deaf ears for various reasons even if you’re not being utterly cynical (read: realistic). Don’t even pretend like that there aren’t. It’s just that handguns are the “most basic gun” and thus basically even more of a non-starter when it comes to people who bring up the 2nd Amendment as an all-purpose impenetrable defense. As someone who is anti-gun, handguns are at least pragmatic for self-defense and other lawful activities–assault weapons don’t really seem to be.
Anyway, I’m going to be generous and assume that you probably meant that no one talks about gun-related incidents by and large until one of these mass-shootings happens, which I’ll whole-heartedly agree is stupid as fuck. It’s nothing new, though, and given how polarized everything is and how quite a lot of is based in race and class and generally willful ignorance/blindness, I don’t see it changing time soon, if ever.

Seriously, given how much damage these guns seem to do, it seems just like overkill compared to having a handgun for any of the stuff you mentioned, though I suppose rifles would be better in the former two cases. Not to mention that handgun seems more pragmatic in general in terms of size, ease of concealment, and all that jazz.
