Alriiiight.
Dude, I would put hours and hours into Virtual On if I thought a decent scene would come of it to make it work. I love that game so much.
That didn’t stop me from playing the hell out of the original back in the day.
I was never as good at VOOT 'cause I didn’t adjust well to the gameplay changes. I still prefer VOOM to this day.
I’ll also curse Sega for not including local multiplayer in VOOT XBLA and praise them for their above arcade perfect port of VOOM for the PS2. Dual Shock might not be Twin Sticks, but it’s a hell of a lot closer than the 360 controllers
I have a Twinstick for saturn. once everything gets modded proper I can host this as well me thinks.
I’ll read up what you got going on and we’ll see if it all matches up with what i have in mind. I’m totally willing to do the hosting for this project.
EDIT:
Just read the ladder, and i completely reject that format.
I don’t want to do anything that involves placement in that means.
I want to do something similar to a season of baseball, where every team plays against each other and earn wins. at the end of the season, the wins are totaled and there are play-offs.
maybe it’s more like golf where you have sanctioned events and you could win an event to earn some points but you have to win multiple events to win the season.
Everyone would have to register. Points assigned per match or event. Different points provided for different achievements while playing the matches or events. Events will be like tournaments and such. Tourneys will have points awarded on a simple basis.
Point system can be debated (how many points awarded for winning each match/event, etc, and if perfects should include additional points).
At the end of the season, finals occur between the topped ranked players point wise. Tourney winner would be along the lines of the winner of the Masters. After the tourney results are calculated in, highest points winner for season is announced, and that would be the league champion.
From that point on, the points are reset for the new season, however the historical ranking is kept…so if you’re the top player in the area at the end of the season, you stay listed as the top player. Also, based on the rank of the season previously, every player starts out the new season with a certain number of points reflecting their placement. By the time the first event rolls around, we could have a new points champ for the new season, but that one event alone won’t determine the best player.
Rankings will be updated after each month’s (or quarter’s) major event
This eliminates the need to have acceptance of matches…every match will count as long as it’s at a sanctioned place and has witnesses. after you’ve played one particular player X amount of times in one season, you can’t earn points for challenging them any longer. This will prevent abuse of lower tier players.
All sanctioned matches and tourneys will require 4 people to verify. Winner, loser, and 2 witnesses who will score the match. All these win/loss records and tourney results will be submitted to pubic record with full transparency. this means that the entire community is responsible for holding each other accountable.
We can decide about online matches if it comes up, though these events will probably need to be held during sanctioned nights at appropriate locations. The basis of all this is to come up with the scoring system and get everyone to agree to it.
With enough participants, one could move forward from this to a multi tiered layout, minors vs majors for example, allowing players of lower skill to be ranked as a “king of the scrubs” in their league, if it’s desired.
Anyway, that’s more along the lines of how i was thinking of doing it.
That sounds neat, if a little complicated. Feel free to run that as well. But you don’t want to personally participate in the ladder? Or just don’t wanna host it… ;_;
Quick shout out of good games to Manco and Metal Health. Sorry to have to bail so quickly, gotta tend to stuff out here. I just finished the semester, so I can start working on my skills and hit up matches more often.
I don’t agree with ladder systems like that, where you have to ask to challenge someone specifically, it leads to issues i saw in that thread. in the method i’m thinking of, no one has to challenge or even participate…but if they do, they get rewarded with points. more points = higher ranking, and since participation = points, more participation = better ranking.
we MAY need to do an average to find true ranking…haven’t figured it out yet. And also, i don’t want to bring out a 2nd method if your method is what people are gonna go with. we’re splintered and divided enough. What it does mean is that i won’t be able to participate in the matches. i’ll host all day long for anyone who wants to show, but i really don’t get out anywhere else, which means i could only challenge when someone came by. if there are people who never come up, i can never challenge them.
True enough. But what is this splintered and divided thing everyone keeps bringing up? I think it’s all in your own minds.
Problem: 2 or more different programs?
Solution: Go with both programs and have different rank charts for each locale, then merge these 2 lists (or more) together where it makes sense.
A points system only reward the players who can make the most gatherings/sessions. (Just like online rankings)
Splintered and divided means you’ll only see certain players at one location or more, and probably not at others for whatever reason (usually because the host can’t stand a certain person or two).
Try both programs and see which one works best.
True rank is very easy to determine, as long as you can get everyone to participate at some point.
i was thinking about that also…the possibility exists that the points may need to be averaged out. It still should reward people who come out and participate over those who don’t, but it shouldn’t ourtight punish people who can’t come out to all the events either.
also, there’s a limit to how many times one participates based on regular “season” matches, as you could only play certain people X amount of times. The goal is to get everyone to play everyone else at least once, similar to a round robin. people who need to make up for matches in the regular season can do so as long as its still within the time frame.
Well didn’t get much response for casuals here in Salem outside of Ron for anything tonight and he can’t show. I tried at least. A lot of you guys already have your own circles and connections~ so I understand about not wanting to mix it up. We’ll see how it goes in the future.
Anytime man. I haven’t posted on here in forever and I’m trying to get back into SF4 (too much MW2) Really rusty…
Oh totally sorry Inverse, I haven’t really been keeping up to date, just been really busy with school and everything
It’s alright man. Not moving or anything anytime soon and I’m sure fighting games are back for good finally. So good times ahead with summer coming up and all.
Move to Vancouver (bad advice) and I’d be up for some casuals.
Unfortunately, I am tethered to public transit still, so I rarely make it to anything even in Portland… and Salem is practically a million miles away.
Yeah if I was anywhere near Portland I wouldn’t drive to Salem either for the most part. Don’t blame ya man.
I emailed the Ground Kontrol people. Apparently they took out the Super Turbo machine because the computer was too hard and kicking the asses of every random that jumped on the machine so they downgraded to a Hyper fighting cab. They’re trying to make a multibooting cabinet with all the SF2’s with a game switcher.
Hope they get ST in though. That place has the retro feel down pat and would love to whup some ass at ST. Odd thing is, they get so much walking traffic, if they had a Super SF4 machine in there it’s guaranteed to make the money they spent on it back. But they’re a retro arcade so that’s doubtful.
Here are the Raybladex inspired street fighter report cards. I posted an example as a blog entry. Everyone let me know what you think. I tried to make the categories more appicable to all characters rather than spefics like fireball war or anything like that. If you don’t know, these are just another tool in order to help level everyone up. Ex: Lets say me and Yangsing both main sagat but he always finishes top 3 in tournaments while I only finish top 10. Since he uses the same character and gets better results, there is probably a few things I can learn from him in order to get better results myself. I can ask him to either watch me play some matches or play me himself and then fill out one of these report cards so I can get a better understanding of what my strength and weaknesses are and then apply what I’ve learned to my training. Now this is not something you HAVE to do. I’m just trying to help everyone level up (including myself). I’ll try to bring a few copies whenever I make it to casuals for anyone who wants to use them.
