Can you even talk to the club about just having a place/room/something we could make use of? (Or do you not really know any of the staff for it?) We don’t even need the gear so much. I’m just noticing here there’s a fair number of fight gamers (both on SRK and off) who would love to meet and play except we just need somewhere. Sure having TVs supplied would be nice, but even if we can just bring our own gear.
Unless you’re volunteering your own place. Would be like middle and high school all over again. =P
Don’t get me wrong: Portland scene is nice and all. It’s just that driving an hour each way is kind of a pain in the arse for playing these halfway often. It’d be awesome if we could gather up peeps from around town, and change the fact that “Salem doesn’t have shit”.
It’d be more commendable if we had enough drive for something to actually get done here, rather than act all fiery and passionate about it on the forums. ><
That said, I once again just wish I had my own place. Then we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. xP
Stupid job market.
EDIT –
Also for the record, my (temp) employment ends this Friday. This translates to: “If I haven’t harassed Borderlands sometime this week, then I have -no- excuse for it to not be done next week.” You can proceed to harass me about it then.
This is the main reason why I haven’t been hitting up meeting in Portland. If we had our own place to play I’d be hitting that up all the time. Then we could have less frequent events to get together as a community (Salem and Portland) and get some serious sessions in.
I’d volunteer my place if it wasn’t for the fact that my wife says hell no.
gg’s to ronnicle. Good keep away sagat. I think i lost 8 to 18 or something like that. All 8 of my wins were with Balrog, which just further goes to show that i am shit with everybody exceot balrog.
I think dont think i won a single match with abel/vega/ken. Just couldnt get in. But i think i won 3/4 of balrog matches
Ok the next time i get a chance i am going to ask my boss if i can use where i work on sundays for small get togethers. I work at Michaelangelo’s on lancaster and we are closed on sundays.
I would like to have at least a small idea about how many people would show up, how often, and who can bring a setup. Just want to know so i can have a little but of a plan
Well as far as body count goes, I’d like to think I could show up at least every other Sunday. (Likely most sundays, but going to say every other to give myself some leeway) I also have up to 3x friends who may or may not show. They’re fans of the genre, but I’m not sure how dedicated they’d be.
As for gear, I can easily supply consoles. I’ve got a 360, Dreamcast, and modded PS2. All 3 of which I could bring depending on what all we felt like playing. I have a big and bulky TV that I -could- bring if it’s a must, but would like to avoid having to setup and move out every time I go.
On that note though, if fight club/night/event or whatever did end up happening on a regular basis then I could see myself getting a halfway nice LCD monitor with meybe HDMI in. (Or VGA out for my 360) Long story short, i could probably provide one display down the road.
I can supply some controllers for said consoles, but can’t exactly provide a loaner stick quite yet (I’ll admit, my first one is my baby. I’m stingy with her) , so if you guys wanted to play on stick you’d need to bring your own.
gg to kwyjibo123, that fucking jumping punch beat my roundhouse every time and you had a free ticket to get in. but i think i already remedied that in training mode.
my brother is really good and mains vega and just picked up abel so i am familiar with the match up.
also,
as far as talking to the kids at chemeketa for getting a place i was looking into it but would have to wait until the campus is open again.
and as far as making it to anything local, i would make it every single time it was going on.
id bring my own pad, thats about all i have to offer though.
looking forward to hearing something good from some of the other ideas you guys listed.
i think ive already tried getting everywhere i could and failed. (besides chemeketa, but lets be honest… just about anything would be better than there.)
It’s a joke because it’s one of those 100 lb awkward-as-hell TVs, not because it’s too small. I’ve done the whole pack-your-TV-and-spend-20-minutes-setting-it-up thing before and I’m not down for that this time around. If I had an easy-to-move TV I’d totally be bringing it.
