Please read the sign: "No shoes, no service except if you are a feline feral or your Dagonian body makeup simply does not allow for shoes" calls Egrets
Yes, hmhm, she’s here…come take her back please.
From what I understand, the voting doesn’t actually work like that. The way I heard it was that it counts your first choice, and if that choice gets eliminated, it goes to your second choice, and so on.
I got that from someone else though, so I dunno how true it is. If it really does work that way, then I don’t really see the point in having multiple rounds (if your top choice gets eliminated, couldn’t they just automatically go to your next choice in the following rounds?), but whatever.
You gonna have to speak for yourself on that one. All my friends hate on Minette so much that I really, really want her to win so I can drink their delicious tears, then proceed to beat the crap out of them with the character they loathe so much.
Occupations in SG: 2 musicians, 2 students, nurse, circus performer, and a princess. Of those, none denote any remote fighting ability. Delving deeper into their designs reveal that they each have a certain characteristic that makes them a fighter. Occupations, just like character size, and appearance do not follow the same logic in a video game as they do in the real world. Otherwise Squiggly couldnt exist, Big Band would be unable to move (Iron lungs man) and fights would last seconds with someone ending up dead all the weapons being used. But alas, this is a fighting game, allow your mind to relax and enjoy the insanity rather than trying to logic your way out of it.
If Minette’s victory or loss causes people to leave skullgirls, that says a lot about their undesireable personage. Nobody wants to play with spoiled, entitled, or unnecessarily salty individuals.
People who truly love the game or at even the very least enjoy the game will still have the original plus 4 other characters to choose from.
Parasoul (some of the egrets even reference it when they are called), Big Band is/was a detective by profession, he’s musical because of his life support equipment.
It would seem people are taking my points to literal…
From the suggestions the SG team has given us, it would seem Minette’s playstyle would consist of non-violent animations (tripping, serving food, possibly just being happy and jumping for joy) doing damage and having effects like that of normal fighting animations. I find this amusing, but not exciting for a new character. This has nothing to do with occupation in the sense of lifestyle as much as how it effects her animations and how it inspires her move-set. Filia’s move-set revolves around her new partner, Sampson, not her throwing pencils and pens or having the opponent take damage from her rage of having gotten an F on a test. Valentine uses hospital equipment in her attacks, but her attacks show that she is skilled at fighting, to which the equipment she uses may just be for ease of accessibility or of personal preference.
All of the characters move and fight in ways that can be taken seriously, and the humor comes from other areas. From the sound of it, Minette’s humor would come from how she moves and ‘fights’, as well as the possible ‘cute factor’ (AWWW SHE’S SO CUTE WHEN SHE SMILES LIKE THAT!!!). This is also inspired by Maya as in UMvC3 all she does is protect P.Wright, slide on her face, slide on her face farther, and flail her arms like crazy before falling on her face…none of which can be seen in any of way other than within a lighthearted manner. Now if it turns out the Minette is actually a secret agent sent to destroy the Medici family and was using the waitress position as a cover, has mastered 16 different martial arts, and just uses the items a waitress would have handy to fight with similar to Valentine, then I would be interested…but since her initial playstyle is inspired by gaining confidence by getting tips, I don’t see that happening.
My point with Dan and P.Wright still stands valid: They were not introduced to their respective series until after it became a success. SkullGirls is not nearly a commercial success, which is what I believe all the fans of SG want to see, and I do not believe introducing a character with a silly concept and a move-set that makes people say ‘That’s hilarious!/That’s so adorable!’ over ‘Wow, that was badass!’ is going to help them get there. I believe they should save something like that for a sequel, as well as Aeon and Venus due to the fact that they are perfect final-boss material.
Also, just because having her in/not having her in might makes us lose support of people we don’t want in the first place, it doesn’t change the fact that it is a loss in support…that is something SG cannot afford. This will work the same way no matter what character gets in, so this event is inevitable, but I think people need to look at this in a different light: It doesn’t matter who makes it in, because they will be awesome because SG is awesome, and that will never change.
It’s worth noting that I despised P.Wright before UMvC3 was released, but once I gave him a try I found him awesome and I’m still working on maining him upto a Lythero-Status. The same may happen with Minette makes it in…maybe I’m just afraid I’ll want to main a cute finny girl o_O? Nah that can’t be it, can it?
Don’t worry, ForsakenM. Lab Zero will make any character that gets in phenomenal, that is a given. Just give them a chance and vote for who you want.
I also understand your worries about the popularity of Skullgirls. Besides the characters, there are many other things that draw people to the game. The art, all the little convenient quirks, like holding the pause button to pause to prevent match pauses. Also there’s IPS, choosing teams or singular characters for strategic reasons, high low protection, and other stuff that other games don’t even have. Skullgirls will be fine, but like TRUEB7UE said, it’s up to us whether or not it becomes the best fighting game ever. Think it’s lacking in popularity? Move some stuff around and start a tournament! There’s probably people who want to play but just don’t have an outlet. Make one! This is only the beginning how games get popularity, get famous, get funding, etc. The success of the game depends on us as a community.
Your logic is sound, however your approach was totally opposite to what you’re now saying. You came in here with the impression that we would call you a “hater”, to which nobody did, however nobody let you make broad assumptions without counterpoint.
You’re off on both Dan and PWright’s inclusions:
Dan was brought in, not because they suddenly wanted a joke character in Alpha, not because they wanted him in SF2 but were afraid of his limited appeal but as a rally cry for Capcom fans to poke fun at another company. Dan’s original invention/intention was to be a satire of King of Fighters, a rival of Capcom’s, in that he’d be a much less appealing, much less effective fighter (much in the way that Capcom wanted it’s fans to think of SNK) than his self created rival Ryu, which would represent Capcom. It was good fun between two companies vying for support from their fans, so in effect… we can assume that his inclusion didn’t bring new players necessarily but it reinforced the opinions of the already Capcom faithful.
PWright (as a fellow PWrighter myself, damned if I don’t learn how to plink Maya fast enough!!) also was not intended to be a joke character (in theory) and was not added to UMVC3 because they felt confident that they could let one character slip by. He as well as Franziska Von Karma were planned for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, however were cut due to time restraints. PWright just like any other character in Marvel is not a created joke, he is considered one by the community because of his unorthodox fighting style (and our apparent inability to use our imaginations) as well as his limited potential, but not one that Capcom implicitly states as such…
A great example of a joke character on another list is Norimaro from Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter (of which Adam has in his inspirations list).
Perhaps you’re right, maybe you’re a closet Minette supporter afraid of the implications that if she get’s in, you’ll have a new character to play as? If so, stop fighting it… Accept who you are and come to our side bb ; D
With everyone assuming Minette was round 1’s mysterious award winner of most #1s and most #30s hinted at by Ravidrath, I think its safe to say Minette will be making it to the final round and if the trend holds, winning the second character slot.
