Actually that would guarantee that she loses winning character slot.
The way this round of voting is set up is with a ranking system format where everybody gets one vote. But if the #1 they voted for gets eliminated then that person’s vote will automatically go to the #2 person, and then the #3 person, and so on until there’s 2 characters left or one character gets 50%+1 of the votes.
That last round will have 10 characters, in order for Minette to win, she will not necessarily need to be the #1 choice, but she would have to be the most consistent top 5 character. I haven’t done an exhaustive search but it looks like the character(s) that’s most consistently in everybody’s top 5 is Brain Drain or B. Dahlia.
What I’m trying to say is that someone like Minette that has the most #1 and #10 choice ranking will lose to someone that has the most #5 or higher ranking.
And you think that someone who has the most #1 wouldn’t also have most of the #2, #3, #4, and #5 votes by the final round?
And your observation is pretty subjective. The ones I see the most in the Top 10 of most people’s list is the same as the last voting’s Top 8, plus Scythana and Taliesen.
Suppose “the most” #1’s is 11% of the vote and everyone who didn’t put her #1 put her #10 making 89% “the most” #10’s. Still works out to “the most” of the top and bottom spots.
That is possible, but unlikely. Minette, as with the most popular characters, also have many voters put her high in their list even when it’s not #1.
The way IRV works is that you need to at least have the minimum number of #1 votes to avoid getting eliminated. It wouldn’t matter if a candidate have the most #2 and #3 votes if the candidate gets eliminated first. That’s why the ones most likely to win are the ones who already have a lot of #1 votes in the first place, because they’re already in a relatively safe spot.
In this case, I would bet that the 2nd winner would be one of the last voting’s Top 4 or Beowulf, who just barely missed it. They have the most fans, so they’re the safest. All of them have different degrees of being polarizing, so Minette isn’t that disadvantaged. It’s also pretty clear that there’s a big divide between those who want a male DLC character and the fans of the last Top 4. The last round is gonna be a toss-up.
So far, only Scythana is the one I could see pulling off a darkhorse victory. She seems to have a sizable number of fans and popular across a broad spectrum.
Okay so this was the top 16 list from last rounds voting. I’m highlighting the top 8 and top 4 in this list and subtracting Eliza since she’s not in this round.
Top 4
Minette 2. Annie 3. Aeon
Barely Eliminated
4. Beowulf
Top 8
5. Isaac 6. Panzerfaust 7. Stanley
Top 10 (will be filled by someone in the top 16 or top 20)
(Dark Horse spot1) (Dark Horse spot2) (Dark Horse spot3)
Top 16 (no particular order)
8. Scythana 9. B. Dahlia 10. Brain Drain 11.Feng 12.Marie 13.Molly 14. Umbrella 15. Venus
Top 20 (no particular order)
16. Taliesin 17. D. Violet 18. Beatrix 19.Roxie 20.Ileum
So that’s interesting about this new voting system is that 3 people that were eliminated from the top 8 last round will now be able to make it all the way to the finals this round. Since last round only had a max of 4 votes, it was possible for someone that was consistently 5th place in all the votes could have been eliminated last round, but not this round.
Yes being #1 in this new voting system prevents that person from being being eliminated initially. But as more people from the bottom get eliminated, those players votes go to their #2-#5 character. I’m not saying this will happen or not, but theoretically speaking it’s possible for a character to get the majority 1st place votes but hold last place in the minority votes. That means with the new voting system, the #1 person’s rank would drop to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th place without any new votes until eventually they got eliminated.
A person that was consistently 5th place in all votes, would eventually get more votes as 10-6th get eliminated, propelling them up to 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and eventually 1st place. It’s very possible that a strong 5th place Dark horse character from last round, can win the 2nd Mystery character slot this round due to the new voting system.
You’ve forgotten how the previous voting went. Your theoretical dark horse did exist, and it was Eliza (had her in my top 10). The results of a multiple votes format and IRV is actually not that different. The main reason for the change is to reduce the salt levels. If you’ve paid attention to how most were talking about the ones they were voting for, you’d know by then that Eliza was one of the most common fallback choice even though she wasn’t their initial vote. It was why the voting during the 3rd round was close, but the final round was enough for Ravidrath to call the winner by the second day.
But now she’s gone, and Scythana doesn’t have as strong a darkhorse factor since she didn’t even get to Top 8 previously. It’s still possible, but definitely not to the same extent Eliza had going by internet chatter. Scythana is more polarizing than Eliza (who basically got a meh instead of salt) and her appeal is skewed more toward those who want a male DLC character. Just as much of a chance as anyone else who gets to the Top 10 next round.
Okay, okay. So the sodium content of this thread is dangerously high. Minette lost, fair and square, that’s the voting system for you. No need to go off the handle on anyone over this. Besides Minette’s popularity will be taken into account for this impending Skullgirls 2 that has come about in the past few days and she’ll probably be included because of it.
We still have the original 8 +4 other characters if you’re really not big on Beowulf, so it’s going to be okay.
Beowulf fan here, but Minette went from “who cares” to “she’d be cool” during this campaign. Happy with Wulf, but hey, hoping Minette isn’t too far behind…
@Wolfe yes, that is indeed your icon but in a bigger version! Very good!
@Spec Yeah, the fight was fought well and the best man won, I’m hoping for that as well so that when Skullgirls 2 rolls through, she’s included.
Also just to clarify I have absolutely zero salt about Beowulf’s victory. He was the number one male character I wanted so I’m perfectly fine. He’s going to have some great attacks, a hopefully “larger than life” persona, and The Hurting. I’m hype for his release but I also can’t wait to see the polling data, this is gonna be good…
(Now, Where’s that gif of Beowulf bringing the chair with that exact phrase?)
