Operation Gamestop Takeover Feb 21, Greater Seattle Edition!

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THREAD TO MAKE SURE YOU’RE NOT ASKING REDUNDANT QUESTIONS!!!

Please use this thread to coordinate how we should split up the greater Seattle stores among us. The idea is that since there are so many Gamestops holding tournaments for SFIV on or about 2/21, we should make an effort to distribute the wealth. I’m not certain whether all of the events will actually go down on 2/21, so I’m operation under the assumption that it would be possible to hit up more than one tournament.

  1. If you plan on going to a specific store’s tournament, post up here. I will update this first post and keep track of who will be attending which store. That way, people could use this thread as a reference.

  2. Feel free to call the specific stores and get details on the tournament. Stuff like start times, controllers provided, whether you can BYO stick, and the like. Then, post it here and I’ll add the info. You don’t have to call every single store, just the ones you’re interested in. Any info helps.

  3. Please don’t be a dick and/or threaten people. Shit like, “Stay the fuck away from the ____ location, or I’ll fuck you up.” has no place here. We are supposed to be a community. The purpose of this thread to to help people communicate and coordinate so that we don’t end up conflicting with each others’ interests.

  4. If people have severe restrictions (no car or can’t get certain tournament days off) on which tournaments they can attend, we should attempt to negotiate and spread our forces out. I for one plan on going to the one at Northgate Mall. Since I live less than 2 minutes away from this store. But if someone like dann can’t make it to any other locations, I might be willing to step aside (or show up and take a dive) for him. But then, I suck at all games, so don’t be intimidated by going to the Northgate venue, since anyone could probably scrape me.

  5. Just because someone says they’re going to a certain tournament, doesn’t mean you can’t also go. Just beware of your comp. With some coordination, we can try to make round 2 and all SRK affair. Also, we don’t end up eliminating each other when there’s an easy seed to be had 2 miles down the road. Collusion, people. Get on dat!

  6. If people want to carpool and make this a social thing by going as a group to multiple locations, that’s cool. Feel free to use this thread for that purpose. But the driver should probably be willing to continue the venture even after s/he has secured a shot at round 2. For example, I might consider going to every tournament at Northgate, Lynnwood, and Everett; provided that they are not occurring simultaneously (contemporaneously contiguous might work, but I’d drive like a maniac). So I might be willing to drive people in my area to every single one of those tournaments, provided that people who have already won a seat are willing to continue to be part of the subsequent trips and serve as cheerleaders.

  7. It’s okay to post up if you’re not certain of your attendance. But please make that clear if it’s the case, since marking your territory might dissuade others from hitting up that location.

Tournament info page

Round 1 venue locations

I have omitted several stores in Western Washington, because they are quite a distance from the dense populations. I’m guessing that there won’t be as many of us vying for the title at places like Covington or Pasco. But if you plan on hitting up one of the more rural locations in Washington, post up with the info and I’ll add you to the list.

When choosing a location, keep in mind that most chains that run these types of promotions will group advancing players by region. In the end, only 1 player will make it out of Washington State. However, not only should we try to not hit up the same store for round 1, note that round 2 goes down in Issaquah, Lakewood, Lynnwood, and Tukwila. So if you win tournaments in Seattle, Everett, Lynnwood or the like, you’ll probably have to play round 2 at the Lynnwood store. My advice to those who have been playing the game seriously (Deezo, Mickey, Frank, Cole, etc.) is that you guys should do your best not only to avoid each other in round 1, but round 2 as well. If there are 4 high level players in our clique, 2 should go to stores in Tacoma or more to the south, and 2 should go to Seattle stores and to the north.

If there’s some info that I failed to mention, or some guideline that would help this move along smoothly, let me know and I’ll add it to this post.

Inspired by the Portland dedicated thread.

I’ll try Renton if all the seattle ones are used

Dibs on Silverdale.

Watch me still not win it.

Let’s take these little bastard stores and make it an all-SRK Round 2/3 in Tukwila!

EDIT: just called the Silverdale store and they didn’t know anything about it. Hopefully they’ll get some more info from their District Manager soon.

Dibs on Pacific Place EB Games. Step off me. :coffee:

I want downtown. I may get peaced and out kill a scrub if I don’t win though.

screw you Keith, northgate is mine!!

Which downtown location? I would consider both Pacific Place and Westlake to be downtown, as far as Seattle is concerned. I know Alex (Lothar) is listed under Pacific Place right now, so Westlake is the open slot. But we’re not exactly doing a first come first serve kinda thing. We’re not 5 years old and calling dibs on toys. The point of this thread is to get an idea of who wants to go where, and hope to coordinate it so that our small collective maximizes our potential prize pool.

The rules clearly state that the top 2 from each store for rounds 1 and 2 get to move on. If people want, there’s nothing stopping you from going to a store that someone else you know will be attending. Which leads me to. . .

Please read the guidelines that I laid forth in the first post, and try not to be crude with your words. This thread is supposed to be a constructive endeavor. You can be Dan without being dann-like.

Besides, it’s not as though I’m gonna win. You shouldn’t feel threatened by me. I don’t plan on putting any real effort into this. I don’t own a next-gen system. It’s kinda like how I approached ST in 2007. I’ll play the game once a week at someone else’s home, and end up placing second so long as Beasley is in attendance. I just want to play for the sake of playing. In the unlikely event that I somehow beast through round 4, I’d probably donate the cab to Preppy, the pad to Pablo, and burn the TE stick in front of Blake. I wouldn’t even attend EVO.

But if you really feel threatened by me, I could switch over to one of the Lynwood venues. Actually, wait, you have a car! What the big idea, making me drive the distance? Are you trying to get someone killed? If anything, you should give me a ride to Northgate (a whole 7 blocks) while you attend something in Bellevue. Considering where you live, Bellevue might be a quicker drive for you.

Added the above blurb to the first post. Nothing in the official rules seems to suggest that should you place in the top 2 in round 1, that you’re free to transfer your spot to the location of your choice. So, my guess is that it will be broken down similar to what’s below. But no promises.

Issaquah
Bellevue (2), Issaquah, Redmond (2), Wenatchee

Lakewood
Auburn, Covington, Lakewood (2), Puyallup, Tacoma (3), University Place

Lynnwood
Everett, Lynnwood (3), Seattle (3)

Tukwila
Burien, Federal Way (2), Kent (2), Renton, Silverdale, Tukwila (2)

Pasco
every store east of the cascades

If anybody here can make it to Round 2 and win, I’ll buy that controller from you. Only if it has Chun on it though.

I’ll be going to the crossroads one in Bellevue.

Shit, man. I was expecting you to make it to round 3. I would have put money on it, in fact. Are you just not going to enter, period?

To be clear, you get a headband and wristband for making it to round 2 (past round 1). You get a controller for making it to round 3. You get the TE stick AND an EVO seed for making it to round 4. You get a SFIV cab for winning round 4.

Added. Also, I’m just randomly assigning people colors so that it’s easier to tell where you are, and to see how many people want to go to a branch. I think we’re gonna eventually run out of text colors. At that point, I guess I’ll just use colors to show how many people are going to a store, and forget about helping you find your name if you’re registered for multiple tourneys. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. In the mean time, I’m trying to save purple/pink for when Mandel makes up his mind.

Wait… all round 4 people get seeded for EVO? Damn. That’s 16 seeds, right?

Niiiiice.

According to the official rules, at least 16 seeds will be produced from this promotion. They reserve the right to pull alternates in whatever manner they choose, should someone be unable to attend the finals in SF. Additional seeds might be produced this way, at their whim. I’m guessing if Seth Killian (or someone of equal sway) saw that the CA seed came down to Valle, Choi, Cole, Daigo (visiting and having just filed for U.S. residency), and Ricky Ortiz, perhaps they’ll pull something shady and just hand an additional slot to that region. Kinda like how certain American visitors to Japanese tournaments have been OCVed by girls, then randomly got inserted into the final bracket to be OCVed again. It’s cool on a geeky level, but questionable from a organizational perspective.

I was thinking about doing this because I’m almost positive that i could have gotten to round 3…all in all, don’t feel very interested in it at all any more.

i think this is only open to US residents…=(. heard its on pad too

is the grand prize something like an entire sf4 cabinet? thats awesome

ill be trying the meridian town center or lakewood town center locations, tho they usually end up canceling the ones at meridian town center.

also its worth mentioning that you probably wont be able to play as the characters that need unlocking. im basing this on the brawl tournament that they did.

I might bring some GG players to one of these. Likely the Supermall one. But I’d like to know what the prize is.

Nevermind I see it now.

I honestly think that people who are looking for a cakewalk into round 2 should aim to show up at places like Covington, Federal Way, Kent, or some of the stores on the website that I chose not to list. This is not to say that everyone there sux ballz. Just that it stands to reason there would be less comp and fewer entrants attending tournaments held in places with lower population density.

Well, teach me the basics mechanics, a couple of rush patterns, and a BnB, and let me loose. I don’t live that far from you, so I’d be willing to drive on over if you’re willing to coach me for this. 2 sessions and I’ll be willing to jump off the deep end. I think I attended 2 gaming sessions for ST before I played in my first tournament for that game as well.

Sadly, yes. You have to be a resident of the 50 states and DC to enter. As well as over the age of 13, so Kuenai might need to bring ID*. The grand prize is indeed an SFIV cab. I find that to be hilarious. People pay money for a game, devote the time to train in it, in hopes of winning the beta version of that same game. Still, the novelty of the cab is nice. But I harbor no delusions of my prospects.

*Too easy. Couldn’t resist.

I’ll go to the one in Kent that isn’t Kent Station

Has anyone found out whether it is pad only or not yet?
