Ono's ridiculous aesthetics

I don’t know if it’s Ono’s fault, but Street Fighter kinda does this comical / weirdness emphasis since SF3. We ALWAYS had comical reliefs in the series btw, but it was something kinda specific and rare, even because, until alpha 3, we had only Dan, Dhalsim, and Blanka of comic/weird dudes?

This is kinda an issue for me as well. Akuma’s tazmania ultra, Fang flying like a drunk pelican. Rita Repulsa’ daughter… Twleve… Seth… Gill… it looks like SF is taking, little by little, the cartoon show route when it should take the SF II Victory one.

I’m **pretty sure **Street Fighter had never been nearly as goofy as this before…

What I liked about SF2 were the iconic sfx.
They made that game even more hilarious than originally intended.
Because if you see the character designs, they’re not funny at all. They’re too bland, even for an early 90s fighting game.

Though regarding funny sfx and animations, World Heroes is the best game bar none
While Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting have mostly funny and all over the top animations.

with SFIV I just laught at the bad graphics and animation…

I actually like that Capcom try to go over the top for once. They did try this in Street Fighter Alpha 3 but never went that far.

Some questions:

1: Ono’s bullshit aside, why does sf4 look low-res? It looks like the colors are washed out and faded. Sf x Tekken looked sharp as fuck visually by comparison. Is it a filter problem or a style choice to show that sf4 takes place in the past?

2: Are the person who did the godly Nightwarriors, sf Alpha 1 + 2 art the same person who did the half-assed sf Alpha 3 and Mvc2 art? If they are one and the same, wtf happened? Macular degeneration?

People like Rufus’ character design? Even Ono called him gross  Each to their own I guess.

Funny thing is King Cobra design is probably more suited to SFV

No, see, that would make too much sense.

Your forgetting Sodom, the ultimate weeaboo. Karin antics can get comically over the top. Especially when issuing challenges to Saruka. Even a character like Rolento can fall into goofiness as he can be portrayed as comically serious.

No thanks. I’ll take our ‘gross’ but unique fatty over another generic gi-wearing shoto-looking character any day.

You’re right, World Heroes is probably the fighting game to compare with Street Fighter IV.

Funny to see nowadays even Power Instinct is a little more serious than Street Fighters…

For sure we don’t need anymore shotos.

Since we were talking stereotypes King Cobra needs a hoodie and a taunt where he pulls out his smartphone and shouts “WORLDSTAR!”

Oro and Twelve look like shit though.

FTFY

Spoiler

To be honest I was never a fan of Gill’s character design

I think I pretty much disagree with everything in the OP; except that SFIV was an ugly game overall, both on the technical and artistic sides of things; especially when compared to both SF3 and SF5.

Also I really dig FANG’s design.

It’s possible to have muscular thighs that don’t have heavy definition, haven’t you ever seen strongman competitions? The guys that compete in them are usually just bulking piles of muscle with no definition but they’re fucking behemoths when it comes to strength. Just because they aren’t toned doesn’t mean it’s fat ya moron.

I like muscular chun li but I think that image is a great example of how badly proportioned the characters are.

Liff mo’, son. Not “toned” (fallacious term that means nothing) means you have too much fat covering the muscle to show the definition.

ASSDEADDICKS

People hate Fuerte because reacting to that character online is a trial of patience no mere man should have to ever endure.

That game’s online is the biggest flaw, so many people with straight up invalid opinions because they primarily play online. Myself included.

Glad Capcom finally got the community’s “Have you heard about rollback” letter. If only more companies would listen.

Agreed. he’s a character that lives and dies by his gimmick and is dependent on you making mistakes for him to capitalize on . If one has the patients to deal with his shenanigans and plays solid. He struggles to do much. If one is inexperienced with dealing with him or has little patience. They get styled on. He’s a test of your patients and experience rather than skill. Other characters like Blanka and Rolento are gimmicky and unorthodox but El Fuerte took it to absurd levels that shouldn’t be seen in Street Fighter.

Would rather see a new Street Fighter game done in the cel shaded anime like style of Guilty Gear Xrd … at least then the exaggerated proportions wouldn’t seem as strange looking.
