I heard that too actually. Not sure if it’s true though.
I doubt that’s the complete answer. It’s not like like consoles are going to output exactly 60hz either. also there wouldn’t be so many people with the belief that every single version runs at a different speed (Arcade, OE, PS2, FBA, all supposedly different). I mean it may be true but it’s probably not the only thing.
yep you’re right. sausage, u started talking about testing something else!
i still think the test (Mr. X’s idea) is valid. it would show whether something is amiss, and when.
we already know arcade has slow-downs that console doesn’t, like after yang ex slashes. i don’t think these slow-downs entirely explain people’s general feeling that the inputs feel slower on arcade.
the test:
start a 2-player match on a console and on a cab. hook up a stick to the first player side on both the console and the cab. hook up another stick to the second player side on both the console and the cab. to be totally clear, there is a total of 2 sticks, one console and TV, and one arcade cabinet for this test (sticks on arcade cabinet are not used). do mirror matches and on same stage to minimize variables (although, don’t pick yang, for reason above). both players play on the same machine, either the console or the cab. record both console and cab. compare recordings. repeat over and over. also switch between playing on console and on cab.
if something is off, then the output from one will look normal, and the output from the other will look like a desync’d game. you can pinpoint where it desyncs.
Yeah, I realized that after I made “somewhat” of an ass of myself.
high five
that would definitely work. now we just need someone who owns a cps3 and is willing to do all this work to put it to rest once and for all! i am really curious about this because it might reveal a lot more than just some of the assumptions we have with overall speed or input window. i didn’t know about stage slowdown or yang’s EX slash slowdowns until this thread.
In regards to EX Input drop:
Never had issues with EX moves. I guess it’s very specific and rare, therefore hard to fix.
stage slowdown? I’ve heard that in ST some stages are faster than others but for 3s?!
Alpha2 slowdown was related to background animated NPC’s, which was pinpointed and tested the stages without it for a difference. But there isn’t a lot of that in 3s. Can’t imagine Necro-land snow, Ryu’s Crow…
Okay Yang’s rain looks like it could do something, but what. Yang EX slash slowdown does happen on other stages right?

The EX problem isn’t rare…
I was using a 3-button macro to do Elena’s last combo trial, and the macro was missing the EX…
it is for me (rare i mean)
and other people here i’m sure.
sucks.
Well… i’m lucky i guess.
Oddly - it’s rare for me as well, but online or in matches…
In training mode, it seems like I need to force it to come out - which is why Elena’s and Ibuki’s Trials have yet to be completed by me (And Sean’s for other reasons), but all the rest are done. No reason, I don’t think I was able to do Urien’s last or Yun’s and not do that Ibuki one… considering I can do it on Nebula on my PC… Go figure.
Definitely online it happens sometimes. that’s more to do with ggpo though afaik.
dunno though. i tend to think it’s just me being sloppy sometimes randomly. because that has happened, on every setup of the game.
Aaactually, SF4 was pretty good on iPhone, especially being in that it’s a dumb game I wouldn’t pay full price for on a console.People slag iDevices for fighting games but there are some decent ones (especially the port of KoFXIII. It’s got better netcode than the console version!)
I’ve already seen folks playing Third Strike on iPhones with iFBA. Haven’t been able to get it to work for me yet, but I wouldn’t mind being able to play 3s on my phone just for shits ‘n’ giggles.
He just held it up at the intro screen with that moon and the clouds. =/
Novelty.
Yeah heard that about the KOF, but enjoy executing on that then. If you want your stick plugged into a phone, that’s geekier than laptop tournaments. But I can’t predict the future for that to eventually become standard or something and blow up in my face.
Not gonna lie, there are some AWESOME players playing the iPhone versions of these games, folks who would eat a lot of people here for breakfast, and some of whom do really well at tournies (some of them play console too and are active tourney players.) So yeah there are knuckleheads who don’t know shit from Shoryuken, but there are also a lot of really fantastic players too.
The KoF game is pretty solid. I normally use the SP Assist control scheme because playing on a touchscreen you kind of need it, but it helps, especially when there’s lag. But I’ve played Vampire Savior on my phone, lol! It was definitely fun & interesting, a bit hard to control, but not impossible. You obviously can’t do everything you can when playing with a stick, but for a quick fix on the go, it’s not a bad way to go.
i have to agree with sf4 mobile versions. they aren’t bad at all and i prefer them to the real game and yeah it’s not perfect but you’d be surprised how well it plays with touch screen controls. playing 3s though, i don’t know about that. would feel like i’m desecrating it or something. maybe because i like it and i’ve played it for so long that that experience would end up frustrating.
hmm. tablet tournaments… the future is scary.
it’s rare for me too. seems to help if you hold down the buttons for just a bit longer.
You know… I tried this after reading it somewhere else… And I haven’t had a single problem. I wonder if the rollback on GGPO makes it seem less prone online.
There are some fun combos and things that exist in Sf4 Volt in part because of the SP Assist feature like being able to combo a Sonic Boom into an EX Boom. Guile can also do an aa Boom into an unblockable backfist or Roundhouse which isn’t possible in console SF4 and makes him a little more dangerous vs. air attacks. I might be wrong but I think Volt is actually a little faster too. Can’t prove that though.
I think the iPhone versions of KoF and SF4 are actually a really good way to pick up the game because the inputs can be made easier (which gives you more of a chance to worry about gameplay and tactics rather than execution) but also because the characters are paired down a bit and usually have their best moves available in these versions. So it takes a little bit of guesswork out in some cases.
But yeah, it’s tough playing a game with a 6 button setup on a touchscreen the siZe of an iPhone. With the new iPhone that has a bigger screen I could see it being a little easier but I would still prefer playing 3s on my HRAP3SA.
