Online Edition Patch Thread

yep

Talked with the producer dude of the patch at Iron Galaxy. They’re probably not going to address game speed issues. Meaning PS3 will still be completely worthless for tournaments and 360 will still feel “off” compared to arcade.

“the main problem is we’ve figured out certain stage/character combos lag on arcade, and emulating that for all combinations…” “isn’t really possible, and if we can’t get it exactly right we don’t see much of a point in changing it. Still looking into it tho”

Time to start saving for a CPS3 setup…

I doubt that the situational slowdown is the overarching issue but we’ve known since Ryan talked to them that game speed probably wasn’t getting fixed. Oh well. Ps2 wasn’t right either and most people played tournaments on that for years.

no i need my yang slashes twirly animation slowdown.

PS3 isn’t THAT much different from arcade speed (faster yes, but a large improvement over the ps2 port and the old xbox port). I’d say the hit/block sound effects randomly not coming out are a much bigger issue then the speed.

I was right!

A new (old) fighting game I might actually get into :woot:

Interesting. I hope they’ll go into more detail on how it works later.

To me, PS3 and 360 feels the same, and both feel slightly off compared to arcade for some unknown reason, but not entirely related to game speed IMO.
I can understand why they’re not trying to fix this as even us, long time players are not able to show them what’s really wrong, with videos and stuffs, like we (ryan) did for sa bar, etc…
First time i heard about any stage lag (except infamous 360 anniversary version), which is quite surprising for such on old game but may partly explain things.

I’ve had both versions, and I agree completely, I cant feel a damn difference. Arcade though is definitely different, everything feels slower, like trying to confirm Kens axe kick, can hit it 100% at home, couldn’t hit it once when I went to the arcade till I realized you had to wait an hour before pianoing.

Yeah, arcade is blatantly slower than both 360 and PS3. PS3 version though feels drastically worse than 360 imo. Kara-throws seem almost impossible to pull off on PS3 and they come out 100% of the time on 360. It might not be game speed related, but rather something to do with the way the PS3 accepts inputs. I know I’m not the only person who feels this way either.

PS3 feels worse to me as well, nothing concrete but yeah it feels different. I wonder if the PS3 version was a sort of last minute port of the 360 or something. That being said FBA and PS2 both feel faster to me too. Never played on a real cab so can’t compare with that unfortunately. Only version I’ve played that felt slower than 360 OE was a recent version of MAME, and input lag is so heavy there you can’t really say anything for sure.

Them saying that certain characters/stages lag on real arcade is interesting to me though. I assume it means that 3s was pushing CPS-3 processor to its limits. At least sometimes. Which might explain why OE and PS2 feel faster to everyone, not operating under the same processor restraints. If you overclocked CPS-3 processor, maybe it starts feeling faster? PS2 and OE were never emulation so there’s no reason to expect them to run at the same speed if the CPS-3 processor was a bottleneck. For FBA and MAME you’d have to look at the processor speed they were emulating.

all theory nerd talk on my part. I’ve read a few articles by the accurate emulation dudes and they always talk about how you have to get emulation down to the correct cycle clock speed or everything runs too fast. like the difference between bsnes and zsnes and why zsnes runs LttP’s title screen too fast and shit like that. I bet that’s what happens with 3s ports and emulation in various ways.

That would mean specific problems with console versions, as stages are not the exact same as on arcade (at least on DC)
e.g : left of akuma’s has a secondary layer wich makes it look like there’s a blinking light, Remy’s stage has many secondary layers and some have been merged with the background on console (some faces if I recall), etc…
Some are the same I think, but damn, they can’t get it right then.

I haven’t really kept up on the whole 360 vs PS3 input shit, is there actually proof that the two differ?

input lag should be the same between both afaik, last test anyone did said they were both 4f. if there’s any difference it’s speed or something. there might not be any difference.

Despite several requests, I still haven’t seen any concrete evidence pointing out the speed differences between arcade, 3soe, mame, etc. Just either hearsay or based on feeling, not buying into that shit too hard 'till actual proof surfaces.

why dont you just play both yourself.

then you’ll believe

Great idea! :
<he’ll play both>

  • they feel different, awesome!
  • what are the differences exactly?
  • well, you know, it’s different, try it yourself, you’ll see for sure!
    …etc…

Believing is useless when a precise answer is asked…

im sorry, he said he wouldnt believe in speed differences until concrete proof comes out.

if he played both, the speed difference is blatant…why would you need a precise answer then?

Don’t have access to arcades, 15 or so years too late. And I most certainly wouldn’t trust myself even after extensively playing both nor should anybody else belive me when I would tell them what I feel.
