You are playing on a 4:3 TV though, most of us are playing on widescreen LCD, so when we put 3s to normal resolution there are massive spaces on the side… which get filled with vault stuff.
I know people have a million things they want from this patch, but honestly this is the one I want the most. When playing offline I can handle the crappy HUD, but the vault stuff on the side makes it feel like some demo or weird bonus scoring mode.
Ah, I see. I (obviously) don’t know much about TVs, so I was confused.
As for the patch goes, I simply hope at the very least we get some stable netcode going. Normals flat-out not being registered is a no-no.
Edit: For what it’s worth, I’ve played on tons of widescreen TVs and I didn’t use the “stretch” picture option on any of them (although the picture is obviously stretched on widescreens). Again, I’ve used both composite cables and HDMI, setting up the appropriate settings in the Display option on my PS3. Still didn’t have the sidebars.
I’m not attempting to spark an argument, just trying to help some of you become un-annoyed with the sidebars.
I don’t remember messing with any video settings in OE aside from the filters, but I’ll check later.
That’s probably true that we’re maybe not saying enough…
because black negative space and a clean scanline filter without the weird faux colorbleed would be nice.
that’s interesting about the scanlines. you can see on a versus city how perfectly 3s lines up on the screen. each pixel pretty much has exactly its own little space on screen (probably not quite horizontally which is hard to tell). the display size of the games isn’t consistent either afaik. is that what you mean? snk preferred a different resolution and the end result on many common monitors (although snk uses a different setup sort of) is a bit different because of how things fit on screen?
or am i misunderstanding?
and yeah hexsells thats just because you’re playing it stretched or ‘wide’ or whatever its called. there’s no way to fit a 4:3 output onto a 16:9 display without either stretching it, or leaving blank space on the left and right. unless they actually go in and redo the game which would alter it entirely since it would change the spacing.

[]numbered pings
[]Player choice select ranked matches (Or at least always link you to best ping compatible user if you’re gonna keep it randomized.)
[]**SELECTION TO NOT FIGHT USER INSTEAD OF HAVING TO CANCEL OUT AND RE-PICK RANKED MATCH. **(I hate having to fucking sit 2 minutes for every orange colored ping I see, for them to suddenly say “Oh hey, he doesn’t want to play me.” and cancel out. I also hate cancelling out myself, only to run into that same person five more times because now they’re in 1p and I’m stuck in 2p until I run into someone else that well cancel me out.)
[]If possible, ability to auto-set smoothing. I’m most likely sure this will be SHIT regardless if it was implimented, but I hate having to see a yellow ping and want to set my smoothing to 2, then see a rare green ping and be like, “well fuck, I should’ve left it on 1.”
[]Do something about the bugs in the player rooms. Either they are kicking me and half the room out or people are just randomly fucking getting kicked. Not to mention at some point, it shows me not readied up, but I’m still readied up.
[]Game freezing. Just. Fucking. Game freezing. And when I say freeze, I mean you have to reset the ps3 (dunno about 360 side.) to restart on anything at all.
[]Do something about the ranked system. 0 rank and -90490284329890843982082930 points? What the fuck.
[]Player points or whatever they are called, is shit. I got everything in that little extra store and i’m just sitting on stacks, lol. Find another recreational use for these things.

Rest, I don’t give a shit about. And some folks probably mentioned all the stuff I made in this list anyways, but those are my main concerns. Offline play is pretty fine to me, aside from some practice mode shit, which I believe was mentioned in OP post.
I’m actually happy for that. Giving us hitboxes would be like saying “Here, you can stop wondering now. End your journey. Go home and be a family man.”
Um, what exactly are scanlines? I turned them on and it just made it look like my TV was from the 1960’s. I play on a big CRT with I think one of the filters on? Crisp maybe? It looks great. Seriously, get a CRT. I’ve probably posted that in 40 threads on SRK over the years. Pretty much boggles my mind that not everyone already sees it that way to be honest.
I agree that the grey concrete sidebars were a pretty atrocious choice, but I feel like making them black or optionally black after the patch should be an easy fix, eh? Light on work + high on improvement factor = good idea for patch
Hey it’s cool HexSells, your picture DOES show the only current way to turn off the side bars.
Tebbo: The idea isn’t to get it to look exactly like it’s running on a versus city, that’s not going to happen with Online Edition. Playing OE is already a compromise (ideally everyone would be playing on versus city cabs) but a CRT is always going to look better/closer to a versus city than any LCD monitor could. alien nose job, I can’t imagine it would be that hard to make room for one TV, but then again you know your living area and I don’t.
I hate playing the game like this, it looks terrible and it becomes near impossible to space anything correctly.
Ever since the release of Online Edition, every console tournament I’ve been to or heard about has used monitors… it’s fucked. I even offered to bring a CRT into a small local tournament and was basically met with “Nah the monitor’s fine!”
Literally the ONLY thing I care about in this game patch is the game speed. They could fail on pretty much every other aspect of this patch but if they got the game speed correct, I would be happy. 360 version is decent, but PS3 version is REALLY bad almost unplayable imo.
I wonder why these “Elites” wouldnt want an option to have nice scanlines on a LCD, sure CRTV will look better but the majority of the people wouldn’t bother buying a CRT to play 3s. These guys are retarded.
Also Iron Galaxy should’ve implemented the region filter and ping to begin with, I think they’re a little late with the patch since a majority of the players are gone and have considered 3SOE as a fail product. What the hell were they thinking.
Yup that’s it. Scanlines vary from game to game and from setup to setup (with higher res monitors), but there’s a standard for what a game, displayed on its own system looks like.
I didn’t mean to turn this thread in an endless wish list again, basically, it all comes down to what Ryan posted (plus online but they said they’d improve it and the matchmaking):
Fix all the sounds to sound like Arcade/ps2/xbox1/dc.
Having original sound effects, not a deformed version. Having the arcade music, which we won’t, due to patch size
Make 3rd Strike Online look exactly like the arcade.
Not having a grey background that has nothing to do here, have a clean scanlines filter that respects the graphics and make them look good on a modern day setup (that we like it or not, CRT is gonna disappear), fix the HUD to be like the original. I’ll bear with the horrible select screen and VS if that brings the rest.
Input display with hitboxes and special meters like lightning legs and charge partition meters.
? damn
I forgot to mention that it pisses me off that they can’t use your stage re-colors or character color edits. Those were seriously bad ass dude and more than blows away their attempts.
^^^^
bah, thanks mate.
But at the moment this is the least of the things that bother me with this port.
Now I just hope it can be closer to 3S and be done with it.
If they had released a palette editor, I bet they wouldn’t have offered a choice to bypass your opponent’s pals, and you’d encounter the worst edits half the time.
That would have finished the game for good.
I was wondering if anyone experienced offline lag spikes…I’ve been playing pretty much exclusively offline on ps3 against my friend, tonight I was just signed in on psn while playing local matches and training mode offline w my bud and we noticed some occasional lag spikes offline in both modes. WTF???
Makes me really irritated that if I go into the vault I can watch the original 3rd Strike Arcade opening movie. Who’s the person on this planet who thought the default concrete title screen was better??? I’m not even mad… just disappointed…
I think it lags every time you hit an achievement marker and connects with a server for some reason. I noticed when I was playing on PS3 and had Steam running in the background taking up all the internet. game froze for a few seconds every time I completed a category off that achievement bar on the left. haven’t really noticed the same on 360 but who knows.
