he never blames ggpo for anything. they love ggpo, so much so that they got tunnel-visioned and reliant on it for making the online experience good when they should’ve also used other tried-and-true techniques for doing that. see 18:25. maybe more importantly, at 25:00, he explains how packet coalescing introduces more lag because of microsoft/sony bandwidth caps (at 27:40 he says they got a waiver for exceeding bandwidth caps, so that should help). u don’t experience this on pc because ggpo on pc isn’t sending a bunch of extraneous data back and forth, not to mention you’re not going through a network that is limiting your bandwidth.
We can’t expect any kind of miracle for the online code part. At best, we’ll be able to play with farther people. Though i’d be more than happy if they actually really improve the whole thing!
The most important thing to fix is the “wrong sound glitch” where the game plays a sound different of what actually happens on screen, due to a rollback. This is an OE bug, never happens on pc GGPO afaik, so it’s truly a bug correction and not an optimization which is needed here…
Also, i’d love to be able to have a direct view on how bad the current connection become, with, idk, a representative number or something blinking on screen each time a rollback happens. This as an option to display it or not of course.
Those two “little” things + direct ping view, and i’d be fine with the online part ^^

Derek… that son of a b**** !!! Lol…
Haha. I had the same reaction when I saw his face.
Hey Ryan, did you talk with IG at Evo? Would love to know if anything of interest occurred.
Was anything mentioned about the patch during Capcom’s panel at Evo?
used the real arcade roms to get it as close to arcade perfect as possible
I feel like I’ve heard this all somewhere before
At least hes learned his lesson. Funny what a big impact around 100 hardcore 3s fans have on them. Hope they continue doing stuff in the same spirit.
Ahah me too, the mail one of the very bottom is send by me. =D
Well here’s hoping they actually come through with what Derek here says, again. Not that I care two shits about this game, but for their company’s sake and for the people who will buy it.
As good as it was to see this, it became increasingly obvious he avoided saying anything to do with “Arcade Perfect” ports and admitted to try and emulate as close as possible instead. After all the 3S backlash they have realized to choose their words carefully. Was it me or did he seem to give the impression that fans wanting Ryu’s bag to fall over was a little petty? To me things like that was more evidence that they did not use the CPS3 and another emulation entirely.
He can’t admit fault or he’s liable to be sued by the company. But by simply stating that they’re going to try and make it as close to “arcade perfect” as possible he admitted the game wasn’t arcade perfect, sooo…yeah. As for Ryu’s bag being petty. Yes. Yes it was. Sure it’s more evidence but we aren’t trying to set ashes on fire here, bud. We are trying to play a game we love in the manner it was meant to be played. Focus on constructive criticism, please and let’s give them some breathing room for now. They are taking time and money to make our product better after months of shit talking on our side. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Oh no man, I’m actually extremely positive and looking forward to IG patch. I think they have shown tremendous strides in supporting the 3S community. For the record I never cared too much for stuff like Ryu’s bag etc. and was hoping they fix those otherwise glaring issues (super bars, ping numbers etc.). However, it seemed like that complaint could be viewed as important to some and I understand their legitimacy. TBH, like most of everyone on this board I think we all assumed we would never see a patch at all and the very fact that we are getting one is great news.
I think it is interesting to see them as a young developer learn from their mistakes then immediately and correctively take action. I think there was stock piles of great information being suggested and I thought it was weird that he brought up Ryu’s bag as someone fans concern when there could have been many other specific examples he could have used. Seemed odd thats all. But here is hoping this new patch is beyond satisfactory.
Like I said, just make the fucking game arcade perfect. Nothing else matters. It’s not like it’s that hard to do. Before anyone says I don’t know, I don’t need to fucking know they paid someone to do a job and they ended up not being able to do it.
next time around when they write a new love letter to 3s fans they should probably just emulate the arcade hardware accurately. make sure there’s no input lag added by the emulation. voila you’re good to go, arcade perfect by virtue of the accurate emulation. that’s probably all anyone wanted in the first place.
for now though they didn’t do that. oh well. we’ll see how this patch goes (it’ll be the last I assume) and judge the game based on that. not much to do now except wait. they know the issues already. I’m curious to hear if Ryan met up with IG during Evo and how that meeting went.
The meeting never happened and apparently will be a conference call.
Well fuck…
LOL
Gotta love IG.
*Still better than nothing that’s for sure.
Please Ryan bring up the question about asking them to turn off the auto parry function when you’re recording the dummy. *

2:30 -> Iron Galaxy learned how to make a proper rematch screen…
Hope they can tweak the one from 3soe, currently it’s not good at all!
Ryan! Ask them to look into inputs continuing after an action.
For example, if I parry a jump in attack a distance, I should be able to walk up to the attacker in order to complete a cl. attack punish or grab, right? It seems like sometimes I just end up standing there not doing anything and by the time I realize I’m not getting any closer to the attacker it’s too late to punish.
