Online Edition is the single worst port of a fighting game I've ever played

Both. Once during training mode.

loving that Catherine pic, aku whereā€™d you find it?

oh, guess I should stay on-topic

Iā€™d much rather play the Dreamcast version of 3rd Strike; I guess thatā€™s how much of a fuck I give about 3rd Strike Online Edition

real talk, I know Iā€™m not serious hardcore like you guys but aku stated exactly why 3rd Strike Online Edition sucks:

oh damn thatā€™s pretty cool

thanks for the protip

the Dreamcast version is worse. even with all the problems it has OE is still the best port of 3S for offline play.

Not trying to be a hater or troll or anything Iā€™m just curious as to why the Dreamcast version is generally considered awful

can anyone give any specific explanations on Dreamcast 3rd Strike?

itā€™s based off the wrong revision of the game and has input lag. it was considered worse than the PS2 port when both were out and itā€™s definitely worse than OE.

  • It runs off the Newtype/Version B arcade build, so all unblockables are taken out.
  • Sprites are a different size, but I canā€™t explain this all that well. Iā€™ll leave it to someone else.
  • It only has the arranged tracks, no arcade. This could be debatable as to whether or not itā€™s bad, but I think it wouldā€™ve been nice to have both.
  • There is input lag after I think every special move, or every other. Victoly pointed this out a long time ago and itā€™s reportedly confirmed by the Japanese. If you do a cr.HK->LP MGB juggle in the corner, if you try to go for another LP MGB there will be noticeable input delay.

Thereā€™s an old story of how Mopreme hated the DC port of 3rd Strike so much, he immediately went out and bought the arcade board for it.

P.S.- Thanks. Mixah handled the rest it seems. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thatā€™s strange, because it never happened to me. I was able to get out all my combos when I did them right. Maybe itā€™s because you were using the 3P/3K button? Did you try just using 2P/2K? I mean itā€™s just two buttons, and it could be any two P/K buttons you want.

Dmx link.

What, exactly, is so bad about this gameā€™s online play? Iā€™ve done most of my more complex combos quite consistently online(as consistently as I have offline, anyway). Granted, my most complex combos are Elenaā€™s EX daisy chains, but still. Iā€™ve had a friend do Genei-Jin combos and Aegis combos on me when heā€™s in Seattle and Iā€™m in Atlanta.

EDIT: My post sounded a bit aggressive, so let me be very clear. Iā€™m not challenging anybody whoā€™s saying the online is shit. I just want to know what, precisely, makes it so bad, because from my(admittedly limited) experience, the onlineā€™s been a far cry above any console fighter that isnā€™t HD Remix, Calamity Trigger, or Virtua Fighter 5.

combos are doable in ridiculous lag because itā€™s just muscle memory.

you can adjust to timing delay although obviously thats going to mess with gameplay. but you canā€™t adjust to not being able to actually see whats going on and react appropriately. stuff that is terribly unsafe offline becomes safe 50% of the time online. stuff thatā€™s conditionally safe offline becomes like 100% safe online.

To be fair, the ā€˜not punishableā€™ effect is intrisic to ā€˜onlineā€™, not really exclusive to OE which ā€˜onlyā€™ makes it worse.

yeah its not OE specific or anything.

Ah, thanks for the clarification aku. Wasnā€™t really seeing the differences at first until you pointed out the input lag. I was playing on the DC version not too long ago and it felt a little funny coming from Online Edition.

I was just using the preset 3x buttons to test some stuff out awhile back but I normally execute EX moves in a match using two P/K. Not sure what triggered it, it mightā€™ve been the button(s) on my end.

Going away from the EX moves, does the music also cut out for you guys offline, too? I find it happening far too often.

The music cutting off during local matches has been pretty common from what Iā€™ve seen. It happened during KSKā€™s video when he was practicing trials. Iā€™m surprised they never fixed that.

cmonster: What type of stick do you use? I was using another personā€™s HRAP, most likely modded, for the 360.

Yesterday I played about an hour in oe. Then I played about an hour on cps3. Wowā€¦itā€™s so different. I must be so used to oe. I couldnā€™t anything. I knew oeā€™'s timing was off but after playing both back to backā€¦ Oe is horrible.
