Online Edition is the single worst port of a fighting game I've ever played

This is why a lot of old-school heads hated GGPO for the longest time: dropped inputs from monitor/converter delay or just online lag, and that shit threw hitconfirms or anything reactionary in general out the window. If you can adjust your timing to the delays then that won’t affect combos too much, but play on it for too long and it will affect you. I still say it’s fine if newer players want to go online just to learn the game, but offline is where it really counts.

Uhm, I don’t know how many times I have to say it and I believe Ryan or someone else from So Cal has confirmed that OE does drop EX inputs **OFFLINE **just putting that in bold so idiots can read that and lessen the chance of me being misunderstood but since this is SRK…

I just jumped onto training mode for OE and just doing basic shit and at one point my EX Shoulder with Alex didn’t come out. I got regular Shoulder. And I was hitting the 3 Kick Macro. You can’t say it was an input error because if it was I would’ve gotten standing HK (which is the norm for hitting the 3 Kick Macro).

And then he came in a bit later in the topic and said “I never said that, you must have been thinking of someone else” or something. Right? Are we talking about the same topic? Then aku pointed out the possible reasons why various players thought inputs might have been dropping - laggy monitors, one guy was using a PS2 controller converter, etc. I am pretty sure this all happened.

As for the rest, I dunno. I’ll just say that I’ve played with pad and macro buttons, as well as playing on stick and doing EX moves legit. I’ve never had EX drop offline on 360.

Nope. that was for inputs in general, not specifically EX Inputs.

where louis goes, a trail of posts always follows. it never fails that a topic goes from 0 activity to about 10 posts in a few hours.

oh and also p sure ryan clarified last time you mentioned this that online does, but hasnt been a problem offline. but I could be wrong, not sure where that post is.

THE MAN YOU LOVE TO HATE.

yes we all realize your parents kept you in the attic and never touched you.

Boss: He was dropping inputs because of his PS2-to-360 converter.
Ryan: He has the exact same setup as Boss.
Kokujin: He was playing on a laggy monitor.

Rikimaru never complained about dropped offline inputs, neither did Vanao, neither did Kuroda. There is footage of Kuroda doing Urien combos perfectly on OE during one of those Bar Fight videos. KSK never complained about dropping inputs during those trials(they were just pointlessly hard). KO was able to do the Double Fukiage juggle almost consistently when he was playing on OE’s training mode. None of these guys have any reason to keep quiet about any of OE’s faults; they never had some sort of signed agreement where they couldn’t disclose stuff about OE.

I never dropped combos because of OE bugging out, I was just rusty. The general consensus is that for what it is, OE doesn’t feel awful to play. Is it going to feel like the arcade? Obviously not, but dropped inputs because of the game itself hasn’t really been an issue.

For all the shit we talk about OE, let’s be realistic about why we’re mad. The new features are pointless, the new music is garbage, the new character illustrations are lifeless and boring, the trials are retarded, the training mode is shamefully barebones, online in general is a huge mess, and Capcom/Derek Neal pretty much lied to the 3S fans. The gameplay is also not arcade perfect AGAIN, but that doesn’t mean it drops inputs.

When you say “OE doesn’t feel like arcade” what does that mean? Is the timing off again, or is it something less clear? If the timing is off, any guesses on whether it’s too slow or too fast?

That, I’m afraid, is hard for me to explain. Don’t look too deep into it though; OE offline is still fine in terms of gameplay and I’d gladly take it over PS2/DC.

its just the online is terrible, still better then SF4

The only ports that I saw that had no flaws were CvS2 and MvC2 on Dreamcast - for obvious reasons.
Every other port has its flaws… This one is no exception, but worst? Nay… CPS2 emulation was far worse on PS1 than this ever could be, and to be honest, I’d rather play this than the Dreamcast version of it. The online is worthless, but the game in and of itself isn’t nearly as awful as the input lag and other major changes on the Dreamcast version. It’s better than the MvC2 port with bullshit like the ROM infinite not correctly registering a medium kick…

I feel like I’ve seen this thread before…

timing isnt exactly the same but its definitely better than other stuff. charge times seem somehow different but honestly it could all also be placebo. also it was mentioned that chun lis stage music is faster which sort of indicated the entire game is possibly slightly faster. but again, could be wrong since that’s hard to tell if it’s really slight (which it must be). Flare probably has a bat brain so he can tell the exact frequency but i’m not sure.

but really just play what you can. offline it’s a solid port that does it’s job although it has some stupid additions (trashcan shoryus) and absences (twelve voice, color stuff, etc). if you really dig the game that’s all that matters. stick with it and in the future you may be playing on a cps3 setup somewhere. so you have that look forward to.

Hate to side with crazy louis but the game has dropped EX inputs a few times here and there using the 3x buttons for me. And yes, I had EX meter. This happened super rarely, though.

Online or offline?

I’m crazy now?

Odds are you’re just really used to online play that you’re not used to offline. It happens; lord knows I went through a two-week struggle trying to relearn the arcade timing after like a month on GGPO.

Anyone ever try and ask Capcom on their forum why their game was so disappointing?

It’s been brought to their attention, as well as Iron Galaxy’s, numerous times.
