You just hit a heavy button immediately followed by a lighter button. If you get the inputs on subsequent frames it copies the heavy button over the lighter button. For example, to plink s.hk, you can do :hk: and immediately do :mk: after it. You should turn on the input display to see if you did it right. Basically the timing is that you should be able to hear two different button inputs (if you’re using a stick) but it will look like you’re pressing the buttons at the same time.
In case you don’t know, frames are still images that flash across the screen at 60 times per second, creating the moving picture. They’re also the smallest measurement of time in video games. Everything happens on a specific frame, including inputs. If two buttons are hit on the same frame they effectively hit ‘at the same time.’
if you HOLD rh down while you’re plinking mk, and lk, you should get 3 rh inputs. I haven’t tested this but from what i can understand from the input mechanics, this should work.
For me yes because on a stick you can roll your fingers across the buttons. Can’t really do that with the shoulder buttons.
Edit: Gonna take a minute to get on my soapbox and suggest that if you play fighting games as a pastime a stick is a great investment. It makes some sorts of execution much easier and is much easier on your fingers than a pad. Adjustment to the new input can be as quick as three weeks. The biggest problem with people switching to stick is that they don’t know how to hold it. I suggest a ‘wineglass’ hold because it’s very comfortable and responsive. Daigo does it. Not everyone will prefer playing on stick even after they learn how to do it but a majority will come to love it. I used to be a pad player and now I can say that stick is vastly superior for me.
Speaking from experience, when moving from a pad to stick its 50/50. I personally didnt really play games @ the arcade when I was growing up so pad is more natural to me. I got an SE stick and modded it with sanwa buttons and a octagonal gate. Its ok but I actually dont like using it and might sell it. using a stick helps with execution “for some people” but im not one of em. I can do any combo/link with dudley on a pad better than a stick. and my dudley is 11k bp so im no scrub
See i didn’t play int he arcades that much either, so i’m more used to controllers, but still, timing stuff like lp to lk or something is abit tricky for me…
theres really no easy way to get it with a pad. Just keep practicing until your execution is better. Find a small decent endless battle room and just keep at it. you’ll get there
ok, so i was talking out of my ass. it doesn’t work. BUT people do plink with rh~mk+lk to help make sure the plink happens. i remember seeing this explained in one of the plink tutorial vids. not a bad habit to pick up and i’ve seen daigo use it (not really trying to say do what daigo does…but yea, i sorta am).
For the love of god I love dudley but I cannot do 1 of these hit confirm combos. Going into the s.HK the AI ( auto block) and humans block it. I use a pad. What can I do? I don’t understand why I cannot get that heavy in.
You’re doing it too slow. cr. LP and f. MK recover faster than you would think.
Plink on pad might help. Is sHK on the shoulder? Press that button first along with a face button at nearly the same time. When I say nearly I mean really close to the same time. If you have input display on it, would like like you hit them at the same or HK then 2 buttons at the same.
I actually had no idea what plinking is. This explained that too. I’ll try it. Yes they are on shoulders. I play preset A. So I got to basically press it as soon as I press the second c.lp? But not exactly as I press it. I’ll give it a shot!
I think you may have misunderstood my explanation of plinking.
I think I know preset A is:
So you do the cr. LP cr. LP and then when you go for the sHK you press sHK and another button (LP and LK chain into cr. LP, so I’d use MP (triangle) or MK (O) so I don’t get another LP or LK on accident).
So you’ll press square, square, R2+O (nearly the same time) and it should make doing the link a bit easier.
It doesn’t work well for me at all. I did it once, into DP, but other than that one time I cannot seem to get it. Yet I can do target combos amazing. I’ll keep trying though. This is just till october to november. Hopefully shit wont fall through on my stick again.
