Every future innovation will come from streaming and the cloud, but improved servers are more vital for any net user in the future. The most that can come from increased internet speeds on the consumer’s end is 4K content streaming, and that will be a thing for typical consumers sooner than later thanks to modern codecs and data compression. Doesn’t require a fucking lightspeed internet connection nor will anything in the foreseeable future, and here’s why:
Large chunk of the world (including 30% in the US) aren’t even on broadband. Then there’s the shit broadband performance in specific regions (see examples in this thread). Then there’s the data caps. Broadband needs to improve as a whole before any true innovation comes around from speed.
Some muthafuckas only use the internet for checking websites and email, talking about they want Google Fiber. And you think that’s acceptable.
