Pretty sure he’s going to pull a Marcus Garvey and send all the fishmen back to Africa from the paradise of Zion after Luffy destroys the city.
BACK TO AFRICA.
Oh, umm. Sanji used knives in the CP9 arc in the train once against noodleman and I’m pretty sure Blackbeard used guns on Whitebeard in the Whitebeard death scene.
I’m tempted to go to over to Arlong Park once again just to see the reactions to this chapter.
I’m aware of Sanji’s use of knives against Wanze. Hence why I brought it up. I’ve brought up before when I noticed that some of the people on Arlong Park were complaining that for a “monster trio”, Sanji seems so much weaker than the other two…despite the fact that we’ve known that he holds back all the time from the beginning between not hitting women and not ever using his hands to fight.
Also, I don’t see why you’re talking about Blackbeard using a gun. We were all there when Team Fate THC’d an already (extremely) wounded Whitebeard to death with their weapons. Just because Blackbeard used a gun doesn’t mean that he’s never used a clawed or bladed weapon.
I was kind of surprised at how Fisher Tiger looked, I thought he’d look scarier or more ‘god-like’ for a lack of a better word (especially from the silhouettes).
I wonder if Fisher Tiger is insanely God like powerful or if it’s just an example of the legend being bigger than the (fish) man.
Something tells me it is more like the latter.
It’ll be interesting if he really did the scale the walls of the holy city and burn it to the ground or if it’s a little more complicated than that.
I personally want him to live up to every little bit of his legend.
Back in those days it seemed like super strong pirates and people when they felt like it fucked up the world at will.If a guy like Shiki can waltz up to Marineford and literally destroy half that bitch just because he wanted the opportunity to kill roger himself.Fisher Tiger climbing the red line and destroying mariejoas is definitely plausible.
Yeah, I can definitely see the climbing the Red Line and destroying the “holy” city to at least partially real given the nature of One Piece and the person who is relaying this flashback.
Yeah, my apologies for being even more irritable than usual (as if such as thing was possible).
But, yes, it would help to quote whoever you’re talking to in most instances.
This reminds me: Have we ever learned how long fishmen live?
I was somewhat surprised to see Jinbe with already graying hair 15 years back. I mean, I’d always assumed he was beyond middle age, but he might actually be “old” by human standards the more I think about it…
Jinbei seemed to be maturing as his hair was slowely losing its prior color.Jimbei seems to have been atleast 19 back amongst Fisher Tiger aka Fisher X aka Muhammad Guppy aka Martin Liu Kang Jr aka Minister Tiger crew. He seems to be in his late 30s or 41 now.
I’d say he’s older than 19 in that flashback. I started getting some gray hair back at 19/20, but it was not nearly as much as that. I’d have to say that he’s at least 25 and I’d honestly be surprised if he was younger than that.
Now that I think about it, BB has rings on his fingers and a downward punching motion could create a scar technically speaking
FO SHO!
VS is the Michael Bay of this thread. I WANT EXXXPLOSHUNZ!!!
Good point. He probably doesn’t completely recall Boa’s tale.
I’m pretty sure he really did all that, which is why Boa is free and basically recalled the events with him being the lone hero.
As for his strength- seeing how Fishman Tom could throw a galleon effortlessly and he’s not a fighter, Fisher Tiger must have immense strength exceeding even Jinbei.
It shows how much care he takes to the story, it takes a lot of forethought and a ethical integrity to create such complexities without dumbing them down into black and white simplicities.
The most amazing thing I’ve gathered from Oda Kami’s storytelling is his erudite lucidity concerning socio-economic and race relations. Think about this: He’s from one of the most ethnocentric countries, where cultural solidarity and integrity is so important that the Japanese government deny their horrible atrocities during WWII. From my peers who’ve been there (As well as Azrael’s posts/blog) most Japanese have a warped perception of America and the outside world on a whole.
So when you see him portray events like the Ohara incident, Fishman Island, and the tactics of the Marines/WG during the war, we get a window into his views on his homeland and their history that few Japanese people ever realize- esp. the youngsters.
…Which probably explains the Fumi-E example in this chapter as well.
I know that VS is impatient, but comparing him to Michael Bay is a bit much. I don’t hate him…yet.
Ah, I could see that. (Pun not intended.)
Given how burly and large Blackbeard, especially when compared to Shanks, I could see the rings doing the damage. It would make some sense too given that the cuts would have to be kind of shallow for Shanks to keep that eye as opposed, to say, what seems to have happened to Zoro.
Man good chapter. This flashback will no doubt end on some epic stuff and we will probably get to see just how Fisher Tiger was refused aide by some humans.
Sanji seems to be back, just in time for the ass kicking that Hodi’s crew are signing up for.
I dunno, portraying black people as fish and having like the only black person in the manga fight with boogies doesn’t exactly a master of race relations make.
It’s an interesting use of the character. First off, it shows how much she’s matured, secondly (and more importantly) she serves as a way for Oda-sensei to voice out the irony and absurdity of the situation, in how the hate and fanatic racism of the Fishmen is only a reaction to the hate and fanatic racism of the humans they’ve encountered and how this all feeds into a vicious cycle.
What is interesting though (and should be considered in further discussion) is that the main source of all this hate happens to be none other than the Tenryuubito, with utter disdain for anyone “below” them.
The issue isn’t really about the characters skin colour and design anyway. At the end of the day, they’re still Fishmen and Merfolk who are equally discriminated against.
its already been said usopp is black…if races like that existed. which bothers me in a whole slew of ways…though usopps my boy…its some deep seeded asian hate towards the brother.
