One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

Fuckin…Gotta wait till next week, but the fact the devil fruits seem to have a new level that Doflamingo called “awakening” is interesting.

Awakening? Fuck i am so hype for that now

Oda has shown us Awakened Zoans before, but I never guessed other types could be awakened as well. This also ties in with how Akainu and Aokiji were able to permanently alter the landscape and weather of Punk Hazard during their fight. This revelation opens up a whole new can of worms, damn!

hmm… this might explain Kaido…

Doflamingo definitely won’t fall from Luffy’s Wolf Fang Fist Metsu Hadouken Leo Bazooka, especially since he blocked it, and Law commented how he’s using too much haki which shows that it is an exhaustible resource. Using too much in one go will probably drain his life force.

Now I’m going to start thinking about how other awakened Devil Fruits might be able to do…

Law!

So Haki has limits after all. I love how everything has a weakness, so nothing is OP.

This “Awakening” sounds intriguing! I vaguely remember awakened zoans, but it’s cool that other DF types have them too.

EDIT: Here’s the entry for Awakened Zoans: http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Zoan

the only way i can see law being awakened is becoming superman prime.

No lie though i think the fight is over

I don’t think the fight is over.

If it’s like Impel Down this ain’t over.

DoFlo too broke.

This nigga won’t lose to Luffy.

So there is a limit to haki. Been wondering that for awhile. Wasn’t it stated that Mihawk’s sword was imbedded with haki? If so, To have his sword hakied up pretty much all the time is yet another testament to his power!

I sort of dislike the fact that Doflamingo’s abilities were explained with a whole new class of power creep. Every time something like that gets introduced in the middle of a series it makes the fact that no one mentioned the possibility of such a thing earlier look a little sloppy, and I feel like we already went through that with Haki.

This isn’t some deus ex machina, Oda has made quite a few hints of this capability. Crocodile was probably the first person who mentioned being able to achieve a high level of mastery of one’s Devil Fruit… He was constantly in a semi-permeable Logia state and could alter material and the weather with his ability.

This isn’t like some Super Saiyan transformation, just utilizing the full ability of the fruit. I wouldn’t be surprised if reaching it requires a special agreement with the devil inhabiting the user’s body.

Also, the very few times it has been mentioned it has been associated with either the World Government or the adjunct Shichibukai so it’s definitely not common knowledge. I wouldn’t expect ordinary DF users to know about it, let alone be able to achieve such a state.

I wonder if Jesus Burgess is planning on stealing some Smile DFs? The patterned cloth around his neck resembles a Devil Fruit.

It ain’t over until the glasses drop. Glasses-sama is in heavy competition with chair-sama still.

Prediction time!

[details=Spoiler]Gear 4th runs out. Both Luffy and Doflo are exhausted as hell. Doflo starts stringing up the hill behind him in a last-ditch effort to hit Luffy who’s wobbling towards him, but gets knocked out by a regular punch to the face from Luffy.

The glasses either fall off and reveal Doflo’s eyes before this final bit, or they’re knocked off by Luffy’s punch to signify Doflo actually losing.[/details]

The chapter itself was decent.

[details=Spoiler]Yet ANOTHER bit of speechifying on the side made the fight feel stretched, though I get the “bringing hope back” thing. Also, Oda’s done better action scenes before… I didn’t quite feel the urgency with the threadspam. But, fun to see the ‘awakening’ thing get explained.

Luffy looking like an actual cannon with a Luffy-faced cannonball was hilarious, though.[/details]

Re: Awakening:

[details=Spoiler]
Awakening has showed up earlier. Apparently the jailbeasts in Impel Down were awakened zoans, for instance. And everyone’s mentioned Punk Hazard already… The state of the island is more easily explained when you’ve got two awakened elemental dudes fighting it out.

It actually makes perfect sense for fighters who rely on elements to do that. If they affect the environments to build up heat on their own, they can use them to power up their attacks. Easier to get super hot when it’s already super hot, y’know?

Goodness only knows how Luffy’s awakening will play out a few years down the line, anyway. It’s bound to be equal parts sillyass and badass, so I wouldn’t rule out the “rubber surroundings” thing being used creatively. Rubberize a cliff, use it to throw a punch? Sure.[/details]

the awakening thing is certainly interesting… but not entirely convinced it was necessary. It opens up a whole can of bullshit, I mean the Kizaru bastard can now literally turn everything into light/lasers. How the fk you gonna deal with that? The most interesting part will be to see how Oda balances/nerfs the technique somewhat so we dont end up on some dragon ball z shit.

That said, I suppose if there was a time to mention “awakening” it would be around this time so that luffy still has the rest of the manga to build up to it and can fight on par with the higher powers. It wouldnt make sense with 10% of the manga to go and mentioning it then.

To be honest, im still confused as fuck between paramecia and logia. I mean someone like Copone who has lots of explosive mini robots come out his ass… WTF is that suppose to actually be?

Anyway, decent chapter. I predict maybe 2 more chapters of fighting before Doflamingo is done for at which point Fujitora will cuff his ass for mass attempted (and actual) murders. And lastly, where the fuck is Cypher Pol 0?

Logia = Your body is made out of something non-solid (or something that flows, like sand), and you can use that element/stuff/whatever. Light, swamp muck, ice, fire, lava, etc. People can’t touch you unless you want them to or they’re using haki or whichever element you’re weak against.

Zoan = You can transform your body into whichever animal your fruit is themed after, and beyond.

Paramecia = Literally everything else.

Basically, logia is the one where your own body is technically fluid or gaseous. Buggy can split himself, but his pieces are still solid. Luffy can stretch, but he’s still solid.

Ice is a solid (sorry Aokiji!).

It might be more like: does your flesh act like and/or manipulate stuff, or does it actually become stuff.

Though honestly, I think the only real test is: does Oda consider it a logia?

Yeah, I guess the element-types get a pass when it comes to that, too.

And then you have weird borderline-cases like Pica and Trebol (if Trebol is not just a logia who could make stuff that was detached from him and I STILL MAINTAIN THAT’S POSSIBLE YO).

Categorizing them is only really useful for figuring out how Haki’s gonna work on them.

This awakening shit is going to annoy me. There’s limitless possibilities if Doflamingo is any indication. He’s turning his world into a giant spool of string. Where does it end?

Yo, that bit where the old lady got dat Shonen Resolve™ after King Riku’s speech… dead

This nigga Doflo got determination like a main protagonist… Luffy gonna have to summon the soul of Roger to put this nigga down.

Can’t wait to see what Franky and Zoro cook up to try and stop the birdcage.
*
But Grandma got that dash doe…*

Franky’s probably gonna be using the factory to hold the strings back. Factory doesn’t get cut by strings, so if you stop the factory, you stop the strings.

When the Main Character punches him hard in the tummy.
