Zoro’s flashback was a nice addition to the chapter, we got to see the rapport he had with Mihawk during the timeskip.

I’m not hype for Luffy. His first encounters with Monet and CC he got owned free, a huge disappointment after all that training he did. Straw hats vs fish men didn’t show that much of an improvement either.
If they show off some new abilities right now it would be awkward.
Really want to see Luffy upgrade but I want it to be legit.

They were only there in the morning to deliver the truth to the citizens that Doflamingo’s stepping down was a mistake and to ignore it. Truth be told they may pop up back at the end but they weren’t there to protect Dolfamingo physically.
Zoro outsped and OHKO’d a roided up fishman IN WATER. If that isn’t improvement, I don’t know what is. As for the others, that’s debatable, as they never had much of a challenge vs the fishmen during the arc.
Luffy didn’t get owned by Monet, he wasn’t even using armaments during their brief confrontation. If anything Monet was just stalling.
I’m pretty sure Luffy’s new upgrade comes with a drawback, which would explain why he’s saving it for Doffy. Since Gear 2nd and 3rd are now an afterthoughts and have no noticeable drawbacks, I think still-mythical Gear 4th must really push his body to ridiculous extremes.
One thing I know for certain, baseline Gears aren’t enough to handle a barely touched Doflamingo.
Yeah, it will be a technique that will probably shorten his lifespan… again. At this rate Luffy will be dead before 21.
