One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

Judging by how he reacted to Jinbe talking about him, Luffy lookin to kill him when he sees him.

Not only that, but Luffy clenched his scar upon hearing his name and it pulsed Sagat style. That confrontation is going to be stuff of legends…

Teach is probably at the top, but Akainu would be a VERY close second.

Fuck that guy.

Damn, not even Hawk Gatling is effective. I know Law is still alive, but he’s probably put himself in some form of suspended animation or stasis.

I get a weird feeling that Gear 4th is going to incorporate both Gear 2nd and 3rd, except Gear 3rd will be concentrated on his entire body making him into a larger version (like 100 Shadows Luffy, but more proportionate.) Add in some armaments too and Vulcan Luffy is on his way.

Spoiler

Just read the chapter a few hours ago! It was pretty damn good, especially the Hawk Gatling and the part with Law giving Doffy the finger which had me giggling a little!

I have always wondered how nightmare Luffy would rank in the new world.

Someone knock out Dofla already!

Got this from another board and I like this theory. I also like the white shadow theory. Only time will tell.

“If you’re going by the assumption that Gear 4 will be used in the fight against Doflamingo, you have to consider the shredded clone as the “preview” of the technique, similar to the “preview” of G3 when Luffy destroyed the door to get to Lucci and you saw the door break, but didn’t see the precise technique. I’m guessing that the shredded clone is a result of G4, and I’m quite curious what it could be. It could obviously be something totally different and just a new singular technique rather than a brand new skill tree, but if G4 is indeed going to be created for the upcoming fight, I’m expecting the technique that turned the clone to shreds to be it. And I’m quite curious as to what it could be. Perhaps Luffy imbues CoC into his attacks? Or maybe he does some short of shockwave similar to this theory and some others I’ve heard. I have no idea, but if we’re seeing G4 against Doflmaingo, I’d put my money on the reason the clone was shredded the way it was was due to G4.”

^ What “shredded clone preview” is he refering to?

if law survives, there goes my grand gun theory

He’s referring to when Doffy made a string clone to handle a tied-up Luffy, while he was dealing with Law on the upper floor. His clone was blown to bits and launched on his floor, much to his surprise.

The real moment I suspected Luffy’s power up was how he got of the string cuffs that bound his wrists together. So far the strings have been shown to be virtually indestructible and Luffy somehow got free of them offscreen.

I really liked how Nightmare Luffy was tossing the supergiant Oz around like a ragdoll a la N64 Mario v. Bowser.

The most satisfying thing to watch is an outwardly unflappable villain get… flapped.

Villains are boring if they’re just smirking their way through everything. Doflo’s clearly straining to keep that grin on by now. That makes this all the better.

[details=Spoiler]Also… Doflo. Dude. You KNOW Law can remove his organs at will. Specifically his heart. Where you just thought you shot him a buncha times instead of in his head, because you got flapped. Bahaha.

I also wonder what they’re going for with the telawpathy (see what I did there) in the final panel. Law playing into the Luffy-can-hear-the-voice-of-all-things bit, or something else?[/details]

Clearly the best new progrock band in San Francisco.

Probably pretty okay on his own, but the whole Pacifista thing shows just how big the power leap is in the timeskip. Hard to say how Nightmare Luffy would compare to regular New World Luffy. Not to mention, no Haki.

God, typing that made me feel like such a nerd.

Well who was the say that none of the 100 shadows that he absorbed didn’t know haki? At that point in the manga and anime they hadn’t displayed the visual cue for haki usage. So its anyone’s guess at this point.

Haki is a personal ability, I don’t think even shadows would contain it. Even if they did, how would Luffy know how to distinguish it and utilize it? I doubt any of them possessed such skill, and most of the people who got their shadows back at the end of the arc were normal folk.

A personal ability that people can learn to use. If shadows can do everything else that they showed, why not on some subconscious level know haki? Even Odz had some instinctive feeling that he should be able to stretch. Luffy would distinguish and utilize it as he did his swords play via instinct. There were several marine soldiers that had their shadow taken, several pirates along with common folk. It wouldn’t seem likely that they would give Luffy a shadow of someones that’s weak though. Especially with that being their one and only chance to become free.

They even knew that the shadows gave him knowledge of swordsmanship. So they likely already knew what at least some of the shadows were.

Haki aka “ambition” is established as something that is a part of one’s essence, literally their spirit. Shadows are just a copy of the actions and persona of the individual. It doesn’t make sense that such a innate trait would transfer through a shadow.
