One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

Pretty much. I see them moreso as the preservers of the ideals of freedom. Keep in mind there is more to the story with the Devil Fruits and its origin.

The Ds pretty much have a fated narrative that defies time and generations. I’ve been charting the whole course of actions that has lead up to this point in the story.

Luffy is the central D destined to fulfill a grand goal that goes beyond just acquiring One Piece.

Without Gol D Roger’s influence, the Golden Age of piracy would’ve never happened. Gol beseeched another D, Garp to save his child, who despite being his ideological enemy took care of his son.

Shanks, a crew member aboard Roger’s ship managed to acquire Gol’s straw hat and passed it onto Monkey D Luffy after saving his life, instilling within him the dream of becoming Pirate King.

Portgas DAce then managed to save his “brother” Luffy from the clutches of death several times, most notably sacrificing himself at the War of the Strongest stating that he knows Luffy will become Pirate King before he died.

Monkey D Dragon, Luffy’s father saved his son from certain doom at the chopping block and from capture; he also saved Sabo’s life.

Prior to becoming a crew member, Robin saved Luffy from the clutches of death asking the proverbial question, “Why do you fight… all of you, who carry the name of D?”. We then find out that Jaguar D Saul saved her, creating the scenario where she could save Luffy from Crocodile (she also provided the antidote after Luffy was fatally poisoned.)

Silvers Rayleigh, the First Mate of the Pirate King, also saved Luffy multiple times and trained him. Rayleigh believes he is more than capable of inheriting his former captain’s title.

Trafalgar D Water Law saved Luffy from a mortal wound by the hands of Akainu and recently formed an alliance with Luffy.

This is more than just mere protagonistic luck, the decisions of each D has affected the hearts and minds of people- in order to fulfill a mission that is transcends them all. A force of fate the World Government has spent 800 years trying to control. This is why Akainu was so adamant in trying to murder Luffy.

The only D that doesn’t fit the narrative is Marshall D Teach, who seems like a virus of sorts in the story.

Spoiler

I wouldn’t be surprised if a D is responsible for saving Doflamingo and Rocinante.

That’s pretty much par for the course for One Piece. The flashbacks are generally good stories, but they mess up the pacing something fierce, even if they do pay off when you get back from them.

Thing is, though, in this arc Oda was relatively good about them up to this point. This is the first flashback in this arc, I think, that hasn’t been wrapped up in the same chapter or in the chapter after it started. Here’s hoping the next chapter is the last flashback in this arc (maybe other than a brief post-beatdown scene), so we can get Dat Payoff.

What you just described is why I believe that the final villain will be Akainu instead of Blackbeard. Akainu stands against all who stand to overthrow the world government, which just happens to be the D.

I respectfully disagree. Akainu is the head of the Marines sure, but his motivations and loyalty to the World Government is governed by his own sense of justice. The Ds to him are a significant obstacle in the world he wants to achieve, but I doubt he has a full awareness of the World Government and the Void Century like the Gorosei do.

Blackbeard is a cancerous D that seems to be motivated by greed and sought a fruit that was fashioned directly by its creator. His fate seems tied into ushering something else altogether, something even the World Government might not have full knowledge of. Blackbeard isn’t the final antagonist, I think there is some entity behind him really motivating his need to find One Piece. Teach is merely a blind conduit, a D who is a unwitting slave to this entity’s agenda.

I figure Akainu’s got one out of three outcomes ahead of him, if we’re predicting the future:

a) He discovers the truth behind the Void Century and does a heel/face turn, akin to the big bad in the “Serenity” movie.

b) He discovers the truth behind the Void Century and decides, screw it, I’m not going back on my principles.

c) He’s already gone through option B, and has already decided that he’s fine with it or it doesn’t matter to his future goals.

Options B or C are more likely to me. He’s just a little too set in his ways to be convinced otherwise.

Akainu means “red dog”, he’s literally a dog of the government. Oda did that on purpose, I feel like later in the manga he will be mentally reduced to shit because of this fact.

Wait, if Garp is a D, why did they let him in the marines? Wouldn’t the Tenryubito want him offed?

No.
Tenryubito I’d say have little to no knowledge of D’s besides a few. The Gorosei are Tenryubito’s right?

And no point in killing someone who wants to align with you especially if you can breed them to become a powerful ally.

Ace might have even been given a pass on his bloodline if he went into the marines.

New Chapter is out. Enjoy!

Still got ways to go but we are getting to the end point of the flashback.

Spoiler

Damn that negro’s clumsiness is forever, but excellent usage of a seemingly useless power.

[details=Spoiler]What a great chapter!

Roci was so freaking funny and badass in this!

[/details]

Poor Corazion.

Rocinante once again proved that even a seemingly useless power can have combat capabilities. Ninja stealth and confusion. It almost seems like a power a member of Cipher Pol should have now, since…

Doflamingo is probably going to arrive early to handle business, and will be very pissed.

Decided to start reading the manga.

I watched certain bits of the anime beforehand a while back. I stopped at skypiea because I wasn’t really feeling that arc. I did however see the CP9 saga and a good chunk of the marineford arc because they looked interesting.

But yeah, I’m about 400 chapters in, surprisingly this time I didn’t skip skypiea saga (skimmed through a bit of it though). I’ll probably catch up in about a few weeks, hopefully I don’t lose interest after I finish the CP9 saga.

Lucci is a cool villain btw

hoping Oda sneaks in a line of Luffy saying “there are no strings on me” cue age of ultron music

no one piece this week X_x

I need that fix…

but why? there was no announcement… =/

There was.

always check the last few pages of a release and they normally say if it’ll be on break the next week or not.

i was referring to gravitys comment not that fact of =}
