[details=Spoiler]A great chapter this was! The twist with Roci being a Marine commander sent yo spy on his own brother and his crew was just too freaking good. Also, Vergo’s hairstyle looks weird as hell. lol
Man I tell you guys, just seeing the kind of guy that Roci really is will make his death all the more painful to watch. ;_; [/details]
[details=Spoiler]That easily answers the question of why Doflo went and murdered his brother.
Wonder if Roci’s fruit power is silence, or sound in general. Considering that I haven’t seen any badass vibration attacks, I’m gonna guess silence. Anyone with Japanese knowledge here?[/details]
Good chapter, but I do have one complaint.
Spoiler
I feel it would’ve been more powerful Oda didn’t have so much fun drawing all the fearful hospital people as grotesque monsters. While entertaining to look at, the kinda fear Law’s facing is more effective if it’s coming from normal people.
Rocinante’s compassion is making Law regain his humanity and trust in people once more. It’s interesting that both the Marines and the Dofla pirates are infiltrating each others’ camps. I think Vergo will prove resourceful in exposing Rocinante.
Roci’s power is perfect for espionage, I hope it can do more than what’s shown though.
I also think that Rocinante will tell Law to pretend that he was captured once he’s discovered, that way Law can be spared by showing loyalty to Doflamingo. Such a tremendous burden for a little kid to bear…
Doflamingo scores perfect points on the psychopath checklist:
[list]
Glibness/superficial charm
Grandiose sense of self-worth
Pathological lying
Cunning/manipulative
Lack of remorse or guilt
Emotionally shallow
Callous/lack of empathy
Failure to accept responsibility for own actions
Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom
Parasitic lifestyle
Impulsivity
Irresponsibility
Poor behavioral controls
Early behavioral problems
Juvenile delinquency
Criminal versatility
[details=Spoiler]Quiet Riot gave some good info on what the D stuff is all about in this chapter.
One thing that stood out for me in the Mangastream translation was what he said about the D’s being “God’s Natural Enemy.”
It reminded me of Luffy and Enel back during that arc. Enel referred to himself as “god”, and it was stated that because of Luffy’s ability (Electricity vs Rubber), that he was Enel’s “natural enemy”.
Quiet Riot also said that “god”, in his explanation, was a relative term such that the Ds were the natural enemy of whatever represented the established order, such as the World Nobles. In that sense, the individual personality of the Ds doesn’t so much matter as the fact/belief that they’re destined to wreck whatever the status quo is in a given area. Example: Whitebeard, who was considered by pretty much everyone to be the most fearsome pirate, was taken out by Teach, also a D. Dragon, the D we’ve seen the least of, has a status-quo-wrecking date with the World Govt. Law seems to have a similar play date with the World Nobles.

Naw, we got MORE than a fair shake of unknowns that currently have NO answer in sight. Between planet killing weapons, devil fruits, D-Clan, and of course, this thing called ‘One Piece’…and then the actual story components such as getting to One Piece, dealing with the World Gov’t and Nobles, Revolutionaries, and various fights/interactions with Teach/Big Mom/Kaidu - not including Luffy having to fight Shanks or something along those lines at some point to give hi back the hat. Oh yeah, then we still have ALL the character development that still looks like its incoming - with Soge-King starting to unlock haki - it seems fore-gone that we are going to go through a similar process with some other members of the crew.
Oh yeah, AND we still haven’t seen what’s come to be from the cooperation between some of the ‘Worst Generation’. Damn AND I forgot about the ‘Forgotten Century’.
Breaking off a bit more about ‘D’ wouldn’t hurt things much, Oda still has about two decades of content hinted at hahaha
Can Oda get a damn award for this gdlk manga? I mean this is literally on a new level of manga greatness. Most mangas, with the reveal of Corazon, it would go from “eh” to “pretty decent”. But this guy, with the amazing character development, managed to make it a “daaaaaaaaayum” moment.
And all the mysteries in this series have equal interest. Goddamn this manga man…
The brilliance and curse that is Oda, he has so many potentially linked story balls in the air it isn’t juggling them so much as story driven telekinesis at this point.
I’m still torn about this, it was a good chapter and useful information was shared but there have been more flashback arcs in this saga then any I can think of and we really haven’t gotten a decent fight since Luffy beat the Conehead King in the arena. I like them but at the same time I want the flashbacks done soon if not immediately.
