One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

Luffy’s panic scream in the anime gets me every time.
Sabody when he falls from the bubble and this weeks episode running from Monet.

Every time.

Man, the anime keeps depowering Luffy compared to his opponents for the sake of filling out time. Not as bad as “lol I’ma hang around gloating about how badass I am while you grit your teeth for ten minutes” Hordy… But both Caesar and Monet have spent a lot of time making Luffy dodge their attacks. And now the brief “freezing you to death while hugging” bit Monet did requires a whole “snap the fuck out of it you dimwit” flashback to jolt Luffy into action.

I see the dramatic value in it, but it makes Luffy feel weaker. In the manga, he starts falling asleep, but thinks up something WHILE it’s happening. In the anime, it seems more like a desperation thing.

It makes me hope that the fans that are watching the anime are reading the manga as well, otherwise they’re getting misguided on the overall plot and pacing.

Watched Episode of Mary and I like how they approached it. It’s basically Usopp & Chopper telling Brook the story about their adventures with Merry and how it came to an end with the Water Seven Arc. They’ve reanimated everything but the animation quality wasn’t as good as when they redid the animation for Episode of Nami with several scenes looking pretty shoddy. The interesting thing is that this actually takes place just before the special for One Piece Movie Z if anyone watched that.

The one thing that got to me was just looking at all the flash backs to the previous journeys the crew had. It makes you look back to when you first read/watched those scenes and remember your first reaction to it. One Piece just has way too many memorable moments to it.

New chapter’s started to come out.
Enjoy!

Wow!

That was a SUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEERRRRRRR chapter!

Go Lucy!

LOL Garps Powah dunk on Chinao was OP…

I’d recommend you guys use spoilers before you post things from the chapter. TBH I go here before someone uploads the chapter so I can get the link and I almost regarded the page post. It’s not like it’s huge or anything but still.

[details=Spoiler]I think Chinjao is going to forgive Luffy now that he has his signature move back. I mean look at his horn.
But in the mean time I remember there being a discussion on powers being Scaled for the fight like how Luffy could barely stand up to Monet. The fact that he destroyed Chinjao how is that powerful but couldn’t defeat Monet is beyond me. Also I bet he is going to have trouble with Cavendish or Bartolomeo or Jesus (I can see the Bartolomeo because of his power but not the other two) even though he just bodied some fool with a 500mil bounty who had conquerers Haki and stood up to his Gramps at their primes. Idc how weak he’s gotten he’s still incredibly powerful. [/details]

At least now Chinjao shouldn’t have a grudge anymore.

Nice that we finally got a glimpse of Garp The Fist’s inhuman strength. I guess Chinjao can stop being such a whiny sourpuss and go home and be a family man since Luffy “fixed” his dome.

Roid Burgess vs Luffy would be a fight to see, but I’m pretty certain he’s just planning on relaying the info to Papa Negrobeard via Lucha-snail.

I wonder if when someone strong gives up on their dream in One Piece, does their haki get weaker? Hm…

Luffy exposed himself way too much for his first bout, no all hell will break loose very soon.

Bahaha. Sweet chapter.

[details=Spoiler]So in the ensuing mass brawl, the Straw Hats now have the Chinjaos on their side. Potentially along with Bellamy.

Burgess, in the meantime, seems like the kinda guy to love a good fight. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him fighting alongside the Strawhats in this instance both for the loving-a-fight reason and because taking down Doflo is beneficial to the Blackbeard crew.[/details]

What more can I say?

This doesn’t get said enough-- Garp is that dude. He punched a dude so hard, his dome got permanently reshaped, and then his grandson punches it back into shape, lol. D’s give zero fucks…

Lucy may have won this round, but he’s got a ton of dudes gunning for him now… and did he just channel electricity into that Thor Elephant Gun?!
He may be getting closer to being on par with Blackbeard than originally thought if he can add elemental properties to his Gomu attacks.

No one can match up to Lucy’s strength.

Naw, I think that was just illustrating the force of the two armament’d attacks clashing.

Spoiler

There’s a difference between having to outwit your opponent to win vs out muscling your opponent to win.

Garp pushed that boy’s Chinjao’s shit in deep no wonder he was acting like he had a stick up his ass, it was internal. Although this just makes me even more pissed off that Oda didn’t given him or Sengoku a proper fight scene in Marineford with Blackbeard or anyone else.

The fight must have been going at super speed or Doflamingo’s population must be ignorant as fuck as to who is who if none of them could place that boy’s Lucy’s abilities as being the gum gum fruit. Damn good chapter.

Well, keep in mind that the fight’s going on at a distance, and most of Luffy’s punches have been the barely-visible Jet ones… And, very few people have actually seen him do a Gear 3rd.

It’s his APPEARANCE that’s famous, rather than his fighting style. There was a bit of stretching going on, but those who aren’t already familiar with Luffy aren’t going to assume that “long reach=Gum Gum fruit user=holy crap it’s Luffy”.

Notice, however, that pretty much anyone who’s somewhat familiar with Luffy have him figured out now.

Garp is such a monster. It’s to be expected, though. He is a man of D, after all.

Well, Sengoku did fight with Blackbeard a bit. And Garp got into a small scuffle with Burgess in the anime. Though, by “proper fight” you probably mean something longer and more well-endowed.

Honestly Marineford should have ended with a Whitebeard vs Garp and Sengoku fight.
