Well apparently only Luffy and Gol are able to understand Sea Kings, not even the princess aka Poseidon could do that. So it seems once Luffy learns to “hear the voice of all things” he’ll reach Roger’s level of broken.
Maybe this super form of Observation Haki could allow him to communicate or detect the “devils” inhabiting the fruits of users.
But when Bankai training, Ichigo dropped the mask that the cat chick recognized/saw…so even then we knew there was more to it. The only real ‘surprise’ was his mom being wow its been so long I can’t remember oh Quincy - and we don’t know how that will manifest itself yet.
Sage-mode was completely random - I’ll give you that, but even without, we knew he’d get stronger via control of the 9T. And I think its safe to assume that 9T will fusion dance with Nature chakra since he’s sitting there meditating and shit like he’s collecting nature energy.
DBZ fusion was just randumb - I can’t begin to comment on it. How about that Piccolo/17 fight tho…still think that was th best fight in the whole series…
Eh? I’m not talking about age. I’m saying just imagine how close the straw hat crew is, but they’ve only been together about 6months-year at best, at least pre time skip. So it’s just a bit weird to think about that each member of the crew has spent 2x-4x longer with their time skip partners than the crew. Zoro has probably gotten close to Persona/Mihawk, Robin has spent 2 years with the revolutionaries etc.
I’m just hoping that if the straw hats meet with with anyone that a member of the crew had spent a good amount of time with, that their interactions reflect that they spent 2 long years together. It would probably be no surprise to Robin meeting Dragon again than it would the rest of the crew. Sanji probably wants to kill ivan if he meets him again etc.
Not to go off topic, but I’ve been saying this for years. It was the first fight in the DBZ series that was based more on skill rather than arbitrary power levels, and actually used real martial arts fundamentals.
Which reminded me, the Lucci vs Luffy fight is not only my favorite Boss fight in One Piece, but one of my favorite fights ever. I love how Lucci was able to compete with Luffy on the same grounds, and he was winning convincingly too. No gimmicks, underhanded tricks or hax, just honed skill from years of brutal training and a killer instinct. Luffy coming at him with the random and adaptive “No Style-Style” made it all the more appealing.
That’s the thing, Luffy’s other power is the power to make people his friends. FnJ or whatever you wanna call it. I suspect that this tournament is going to buff up Luffy’s force. A following. He’s already got fishman island, he’ll probably be getting the people at dressrosa from the drawfs, to the toys, and anyone else. Along with the big wigs in the tournament from that big old guy, to the barrier guy, to even Belemy. He’s winning over Wano country, all those giant kids. Elbaf.
For DBZ fights, I was always fond of the Goku/Vegeta fights. They were always an even match with no clear winner. Those even fights were the best, and in that regard I can see why people loved the "Piccolo/17 fight.
I’m not talking about age either, I’m talking about how time literally stands still for characters during their time on panel and in story arcs only for stuff like time skips to be the only way it moves forward. I seriously can’t comprehend how from start until separation that the crew hadn’t spent years traveling with one another. I’d need Oda to present me a One Piece calender with a bunch of extra months tacked in to make it a year beyond 12 to buy the explanation that the crew knew each other for a year or less.
But I digress, if we are talking DBZ fights, despite it running stupidly long especially between when Goku stepped up and when he finally went SSJ, I love Frieza fight and how it ended. Although my favorite all time is actually a tie between two fights back in the original Dragon Ball, the final fight Goku vs King Piccolo and Goku vs Tien.
Ships are probably just faster in One Piece? Hard to tell how many days have passed when throughout the entire Manga so far theres only be a few times when it’s stated how many days have passed.
One of my fave DBZ fights was Goku vs Vegeta 2. That was a brutally intense fight between two evenly matched fighters and you didn’t know who was going to win… aaaaand then they revealed that Goku could have gone SSJ3 at anytime and pretty much cut the balls off Vegeta for the rest of the series…sigh. :bluu:
Meanwhile, I have been watching Fairy Tail for the past month or so and I have to say, I am not into it… it’s kind of dull actually. There’s nothing really innovative or fresh about the characters and the main character is boring as hell and follows a familiar premise:
Oh look, Natsu has the power of Fairy friendship that allows him to automatically become more powerful than any opponent he faces, even if that opponent literally has the power of a freakin’ god. Uh-oh! Natsu just got blasted by a freaking death beam that can destroy mountains! That’s fine, he just no-sells that shit and beats them up anyway with some random cgi fire attacks that look exactly the same. Uh-oh! Look out! Natsu just ate some random magic shit so now he’s even more powerful! Oh… and more Fairy friendship bullshit.
Yeah, it’s Goku-like shenanigans, but at least DBZ was interesting.
If you allow half a month of time per arc (in the manga, and putting certain arcs together, such as the Baratie/Arlong Park sequence, which clearly takes place very close to each other), then you still wind up with less than a year for the whole pre-timeskip session.
Fairy Tail is third place on my Guilty Manga Pleasure list. In order from mostly pleasure to mostly guilty, these are One Piece, Toriko, and FT.
Now, granted, I haven’t watched the anime. But the manga does have some high points, and some really imaginative illustrations, and SOME imaginative fights. As you say, though, it’s a shame that most of the fights simply come down to winning through the power of FRIENDSHIIIIP. That, or simply “bang pow look I’m stronger and you’re all beaten up, oh hang on, you just got up, and now it looks like you were stronger than me after all and you unleashed a bigass attack and now I’m beaten, whoops”.
And of course, there’s a crazy amount of fanservice. I mean, really ridiculously crazy. There’s a whole chapter taking place in a bath house, which means naked girls on ALL the pages, just barely covered up by bubbles, hair or whatever. Literally a whole chapter of naked girls. I’ve never seen any mainstream manga do that before.
I can’t remember where I saw it (probably at Arlong Park), but someone did a breakdown of how much time had passed since Luffy started his journey in the barrel using the phases of the moon in the night time panels… I believe that they claimed that three or four months had passed from the beginning to the confrontation with Bellamy on Jaya.
I don’t know if the creator of that theory did any further work for the rest of the series, but judging by the massive amount of event that occurred within that time period(getting the majority of the crew together, stopping a freaking war), having the majority of the pre-time skip story take place in less than a year is plausible…
