One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

LOL, this thread.

“I’d punch this Blackbeard nigga in the face in real life”

“Blackbeard seems like a cool dude I’d chill with in real life, put me in his camp”

“And part of me would want to hang with him”

Oh god, I’m dying.

We should come up with a sort of a weekly topic of discussion type thing in order to circumvent the waiting periods in-between chapters, especially when it gets to be longer due to breaks and such. I’m sure that we could come up with things that are both funny yet interesting.

Perhaps. Here’s my personally contrived theory:

Doflamingo is related to a member of the Gorosei. I’d assert that he’s probably the son of one of them.

Remember the little conversation that Law and Dofla had? It went like this.

Law: “You’re a pirate!!!” “Even a Shichibukai wouldn’t have that kind of authority!!!” “Someone with the power to do something so outrageous…!!” “Only the likes of the Celestial Dragons could manage that!!”

Law: “You. Could you be…!?”

DD: “Fuffuffu… it’s a much deeper story than that” “But in any case… Law! I’ve been wanting to kill you!!!”

Blurb: “How far does this go!?”

This leads me to believe that Dofla is not just related to a random Tenryu, but is actually related to a prominent figurehead. This theory is also reinforced by the fact that the twist with Dofla merely being “he’s related to a Tenryu” would be rather obvious and a tad boring. Not to mention the fact that Dofla is also quite an exceptional individual in his own right, which leads me to believe that he has good genes/competent parents.

Remember when Dofla received orders to take out Moria after Marineford? According to Dofla, those orders weren’t issued by Sengoku; and were issued by someone who is “much higher up”. So, that leaves who? Kong, the Tenyru’s, and the Gorosei. Why on earth would Kong or the Tenyru’s want Moria gone? I can’t see any reason as to why. Which leaves the Gorosei. He was probably the one tasked with something so important because his father/one of the Gorosei has put quite a bit of trust in him and knows that he will keep things under wraps while getting the job done. They probably have some sort of “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” type of agreement going on. Of course, since Dofla is quite an eccentric individual their relationship must not be publicized and is largely kept under wraps. I highly doubt that they care for each other on a father/son level though.

Dofla is similar to Sabo in a sort of rebellious sense, but unlike Sabo Dofla doesn’t seem to be ashamed of his roots. He’s a fun-loving guy who seems to just enjoy life and has been seen indulging in his spoils (on the beach as a child, on the beach during Sabaody arc, always laughing/smiling). In addition, he also rules over a Kingdom. Which indicates that he has no issue with retaining an important position of power. He also gets away with despicable things (owning a human auction house, picking on Marines during his meeting with Sengoku, etc). He’s nearly untouchable. He even got away with threatening a Government official at Mariejois.

As of recent Dofla was also able to fool the entire world (aside from a select few people) with false information in relation to his status as Shichibukai. Including the marines! And the Cipher Pol also contributed in helping him as well, who only the Gorosei and possibly the Tenryu have control over.

And he was able to set this all up in what? A day? Dude probably just phoned daddy and asked for a favor.

Whatever the case, Dofla is no ordinary person who holds a position of higher power. That much is clear.

And of course, like any OP theory/speculation. This could all be entirely incorrect. But I had fun thinking it up, so yeah.

That’s almost like saying that garbage tastes better than manure. Both are extremely repulsive, yet one of them is slightly less repulsive.

Funny you should mention that. I stumbled upon dubbed Piece on Toonami completely by accident and I was rather impressed with their english voices which are LIGHT YEARS ahead of the Funimation crap. Also, Sanji isn’t sucking on a digitally altered lollipop anymore and he doesn’t sound like Sylvester Stallone after a stroke.

@Dreize That was a really fun read. The conclusion you made with him being ordered to assassinate Moria from a Gorosei does lend some weight to the lineage theory. My theory has been that there’s 2 kinds of Tenryuubitos- the inbred, moronic bourgeoisie class that wield their power with hedonistic and cruel intent, and the OGs who are the true titleholders that know the full knowledge of the Void Century and have palpable power.

Doflamingo is of the latter, hence why he has Conqueror’s Haki and knows a lot about the world.

“Aye Luffy Whatsamattahyouu?!”

I think you have this backwards. 4kids was the one with the lollipop and retarded ass sanji.

4kids is the shitty quality video in that.

Also i just realised that SF4 Seth is Blackbeard. You can really tell during Seth’s super with his scream at the end haha.

Well I picked up Seth first because he was a couter pick to my main Gief, and then fell in love with him because he was just an asshole. shrug

Oops, my mistake

As much as I prefer Usopp’s Japanese voice actor, kudos to the Funimation VA for letting him retain, you know, some actual range. Listening to the 4Kids Usopp just makes me appreciate that so very much. HELLO IM USOPP IM HOARSELY SHOUTING ALL THE TIME BECAUSE COMEDY CHARACTER YES

Now if they could make Funimation Luffy sound closer to the Japanese version, I’d be all set.

Yeah, the Luffy dub is what irks me the most in the funimation dub. I don’t know whether i’m just biased because i heard it first, but the Japanese actor is spot on with how Luffy should act. The right tone and inflection for being serious and for being silly.

I really want to see how the dub handles the Robin ‘i want to live!’ scene.

I actually just watched the Funi-dub of One Piece last week for the first time.

I hate Luffy, Sanji, & especially Robin’s voices and listening to Zoro’s and Usopp’s makes me cringe. My goodness…

Well let’s face it, I don’t think there’s any English VA that can come anywhere close to matching the originals, especially the woman who does Luffy’s voice. My god, she is talented.

It’s not really the American’s fault. The Funimation VAs are actually pretty decent but don’t have the ability to detect and put “Japanese Passion” into their voice when it’s required. It’s not really an issue in more mature-themed/ realistic animes like Cowboy Bebop where the tone rarely changes, but in the Shonen-verse it can make or break a scene.

To date, the only American voice actor to successfully pull off the “Japanese Passion” is Mark Gatha aka Domon "KYOOOJI!!!" Kasshu.

I am more of a visual person so the nuances of speech in Japanese or English don’t really bother me, one just requires me to read subtitles and one I have the choice. That being said, I like Funimation’s Zoro and Sanji but perhaps the 4Kids dub being my first exposure to One Piece may have something to do with it, eh whatever… how many days until the next chapter comes out again?

Including today, 7 more days. 6 days if we’re lucky.

Oh, the bullshit is STROOOONG within this comparison.

I wonder if all Haki users can show their Full Spirit like Shanks did when arriving on Whitebeard’s ship? Conquerors Haki have been shown as a burst, but only Shanks has been seen radiating Haki to the point where it was knocking people out just by existing. Even more incredible his Bosushoku Haki was cracking the sides of the ship.

It’d be cool being a Haohshoku Haki user and running a daycare center. When little rugrats keep running around and avoiding nap time… *PECHOUUU! [/i ]Light’s Out kiddies. Rayleigh could make bank on a daycare center in Shabondy.

hah! I wonder if constant haki knockouts would have any long term effects on people. The way victims’ eyes roll back and the foam coming out of their mouths, I would say yes.

Cool av by the way.

Yeah… you do have a point. Considering that the user overwhelms people through sheer willpower, I think kids would eventually have some residual psychological damage.

I hope lawsuits don’t exist in One Piece.

Walter Whitebeard

The parallels are there:

[details=Spoiler]-Both had severe illnesses that weakened their bodies, but not their resolve.

-Both had to rescue their underling from an evil organization.

-Both have caused massive explosions and damage with their ability.

-Both are Bosses.

-Gustavo took the whole “half my face is blown off and still living” portion of the similarities though. [/details]

I truly believe that Shanks is on some next-level-haki stuff.

Which makes sense since he doesn’t possess a DF, unlike the other Yonko (most likely). Plus, it bodes well with his personality. He’s clearly quite a smart and perceptive individual.

We certainly haven’t seen anyone in the series who is on his level of haki yet.

Also, dat avatar white shadow. Hah.

Forget about Tom?

We’re not lucky if Kotaku is correct. Health issues still effecting Oda and at earliest it returns for August 5th issue of Jump. :frowning:

Well, if it’s a health issue than it can’t be helped. I don’t mind.

Thanks for the info!

P.S - Does anyone else see the weird way my last post was placed, or is it just me?
