One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

PIS or whatever you want to call it. There is nothing wrong with Shanks getting stronger, but bare in mind that he already had WB’s acknowledgement as a strong pirate even before he vacationed in east blue. Hence why his comments about him being surprised to hear Shanks coming back from the “weakest sea” with having lost an arm.

My rationale early on was that whatever he had to do in order to save Luffy the way he did had to be at the expense of his defense. If we imagined him on the shore when he spotted Luffy the EXACT moment he was about to get eaten and reacted, it would be natural to see why he’d forgo his personal safety.

Ace and Jinbei are other prime examples of characters who made gut reactions to save someone.

ALSO! A lot of foreshadowing was done here, because Shanks didn’t kill the Lord of the Coast as he probably easily could out of retaliation. Roger could hear the voices of all things which Luffy displayed as communication with Sea Kings. Since Shanks knows sea kings aren’t mindless beasts, he suffices by displaying some of his Haki to intimidate, rather than killing/fainting it.

Oh and it’s been confirmed in a recent SBS by ODa that when we meet Vegapunk he will finally explain what the Devil Fruits really are once and for all! ^_^!

I hope so since I’m dying to know!

Frankly, I don’t want him to, I’d prefer he leave something a mystery like that monster they had at the end of Thriller Bark.

aka THE REAL FINAL BOSS

But c’mon Wellman, you know Devil Fruits are at the heart of the story, especially the mysterious Void Century! It has to be explained!

Out of all the great One Piece mysteries, the will of D captures my curiosity more so than any other.

I’ve been itching to know about it for years now.

I wanna know who Luffy’s mother is.
/lol

“Why do you fight- all of you, who carry the name D?”

~Nico Robin

This, along with the true origins of the Skypeians/Shandians/Aliens are the biggest mysteries.

My theory all along is that the Davy Back game is really a watered-down version of a real exchange between all those poor souls doomed to a watery grave and the Devil (who might really be some ancient entity long forgotten with lost knowledge). I’ve always theorized that the “devils” that inhabit the fruits (at least the original versions) are really the souls of men who agree to “live again” but unwittingly are forced into a deal making them extensions the Devil’s will (aka the Devil Fruits). Davy Jones’ Locker has always been a moniker for hell.

It would explain the DF users’ weakness to water, specifically seawater, because it is where the bodies of all the seafarers who made the agreement lie. In addition, this entity (who I believe is the foreshadowed creature who was even larger than Thriller Bark) is possibly restricted to the ocean where his power is nigh omnipotent, and these Devil Fruits are its way of manipulating affairs upon land, to hopefully claim the entire planet. Blackbeard’s Darkness fruit is the embodiment of this entity’s will, which explains why Teach feels compelled by fate towards his goal.

I can just imagine a still small voice, evoking a young, dejected Marshall “D.” Teach towards his fated purpose. Teach has probably been compelled to follow the Devil’s bidding for years, and making it’s will his own. Simply put, Blackbeard is only the frontman for the real FINAL BOSS.

Naw, WS, the heart of this story remains right under our nose the entire time just like the one they are trying to spin into Doctor Who as of the previous season finale.

Devil Fruits are nice but really unnecessary to reveal.

Void Century definitely interesting and key to the World Government.

Will of D no doubt key to Void Century and probably Gol D. Roger’s backstory.

But it all comes down to what the fuck is One Piece? Above all else, that is the only thing as a reader I demand he goes into details on what it is.

I don’t think we’ll ever actually see the One Piece.

The One Piece tells you the counter to MorriDoom

I thought this at first, then realized that’s not true.

Right ‘now’ who is the strongest pirate? I’d wager Treach. Not only can he turn off fruits, but he has two of them. With all the mystery of him having two, and his crew collecting fruits as though they plan on stacking them as well - it begs the question - what are DFs - how do they actually work, etc. That will be part of what’s necessary for ultimaetly Luffy defeating him and/or using two fruits himself (after more thinking on it, I am begining to get back to the train of thought that Luffy should get the Mera mera ALSO - it would allow him to go toe-to-toe with the Lava admiral - someone who’s heat alone would surpass Luffy’s haki ability).

So from a plot progression stand-point - yeah you’re right, from a ‘getting from point a to point b’ stand point though, it actually does bare some credence. Keep in mind that no matter how strong Luffy’s haki is, and how broke he’s made his DF ‘feel’ when mixed with haki, he’s still low on the overall strength scale compared to those he seeks to surpass or will need to beat - in order to become the Pirate King. Let’s be real, would he stand a chance against an admiral now? Nope.

  • :bluu:

Why wouldn’t he stand a chance against an admiral? Movie Strong World and Z were both canon. He’s taken down to admiral level opponents in each. Add in the fact that we have 150million bounty pirates taking down some vice admirals and it doesn’t seem too much of a stretch that he might be able to fight against certain admirals.

Add in the fact that Garp is clearly admiral level if not fleet admiral in strength while having no DF at all, it shouldn’t be an impossibility for someone with a decent DF like Luffy to at least hold his own against a logia opponent. But we still have 1 admiral position unknown to us. So until we’ve seen these new guy and some more details on fujitora’s powers we can’t say for sure just how strong either of them are. At the very least if Fujitora felt that he was so much stronger than luffy than he would have just went ahead and captured him in the casino/restaurant.

those movies are not canon and Z was not even in his prime anymore even then luffy barely won(Z went on after this fight even more marines while luffy could barely move)

Luffy could not beat at an admiral right now he could put up fight but no way win

Shanks was already super strong by the time he met luffy he was sparring partners with one of the strongest swordsman in the world not to mention he survived being the cabin boy in the strongest and the deadliest pirate crew in history.C’mon now man dude survived battles with Whitebeards crew ,the Marines and Shiki. He is pretty damn strong you couldnt be weak and survive on the ship.

Also I think Blackbeard is strong but having a devil fruit is a gift and a curse if Shanks threw that nigga in a lake he would die or in a shallow pool of water. Blackbeard still backed down from fighting Shanks after he finished fighting Garp and Sengoku.Blackbeard is dangerous but its not the fruits that make him dangerous its how dirty he is and the fact he is willing to cheat to win.

Cannon? I don’t know about that. If its not in the manga, I’m not calling it cannon. As well…

  1. Luffy hasn’t done SHIT to make me think he’s on Garp’s level. Think back to when the 1000 Sunny first left and Garp was going ham on it with cannon balls. I am not saying Luffy isn’t or can’t be ‘there’, but I havent seen anything yet to make me think so. On that same note, Garp is Admiral class due to factors beyond ‘battle strength’.
  2. The ‘last’ batch of Admirals would DESTROY Luffy. C’mon! It’s ‘beyond’ haki - they have haki that’s at least on par (remember the three of them saving Marineford from Whitebeard?) with Luffy, but they also have the most broken DFs in their respective classes. Dude burned FIRE, marinate on that. Have we seen anyone water/ice or anything on the level of Aokoji? FUCKING LASERS $@%)*U@$%)@% - moving at the speed of light? I’m sorry, Luffy has improved greatly, its no shot at him, but we’ve seen what Wergo, the strongest haki (quote on quote) could do, and that leaves me with little wiggle room to find a reason that Luffy could get strong enough to challenge them with his current DF, its just not realistic. He can’t lay a finger on homeboy who killed Ace…can’t touch him.
  3. It’s obvious by demeanor and actions that Fujitora sees the big picture, Luffy did no harm, obviously doesn’t have any negative intent (and a blind swordsman is prolly pretty good with observation haki), and was NOT the reason he was sent there. He was better off keeping his profile low.
  • :bluu:

If I recall, he simply felt he wasn’t strong enough ‘yet’ to fight so many people at once - with the Marines obviously pissed at him, Whitebeard’s crew, AND Shanks crew. It wasa tactical retreat more so than one of fear. As well, he JUST expanded his crew, he had alot of ‘unknowns’ at the time (along with his new powers). Let’s keep it real, he gave Shanks the mark on his face.
-:bluu:

PSSFT, I KNOW EVERYTHING ABOTU ONE PIECE.

Only reason Shanks didn’t kill Blackbeard was because Luffy has to beat him up later. DUH.

No, it is probably because Shanks is secretly blind in one eye. He just hides it better then Zoro.

What I’m trying to say is that the Devil Fruits tie in directly with the mysteries of the Grand Line. it’s obvious that these things aren’t a natural product of the world and were manufactured or conjured up somehow. They’ve also had a massive effect on the goings-on of the world.

I don’t really care for the “mysteries of Devil Fruits” or “what is One Piece.”

I just really want to know who Dragon smashed and gave birth to Monkey D. Luffy.

Actually, Film Z isn’t canon, but Strong World was indeed canon.
