One Piece Thread: Gear 2nd!

Fishman going ham. Lucy’s brilliant disguise was no match for Giant old man.
Dr. Kintobor: Master Strategist.

So the king may have some weak Haki or something and can’t use it professionally like everyone else with Haki.
He’s still getting torn up.

So you mean the same thing everyone thinks every arc? YOU DUM.

Eh, honestly, given the previous chapters and characters that were displayed and then disgarded I can’t help but think a majority of these guys are “red herrings”. Some of them no doubt will play roles outside of the tournament since this arc seems prepped to go “City/Nation” wide riot at any point with Law’s plans and the Marines/CP0 being involved. However, much like a recent movie I’ve seen Tai Chi Zero, at one point throws out subtitle naming shots for every location and most characters early on regardless of importance, I don’t think every one of these guys are going to be much more then wall paper.

I really really like that Fishman Hack’s design. I don’t think Oda is going to put that guy to waste. There’s certain characters that Oda puts too much charm so you know they’ll stick around.

Didn’t think that the old man was going to be so huuuuge! lol Lucy you dolt!

I’m wondering what Bartolomeo has up his sleeve? He’s already proven to be strong enough to off-screen a Vice Admiral and he’s probably not a DF user so…

This Ricky guy is probably the former champion, almost too obvious.

Yea Ricky is definitely the man who the statue is modeled after.

This.

His mention of Jimbei solidifies at least a conversation with Luffy.

So if Shanks could push out so much conquerers haki that he could damage Whitebeard’s ship, why did he lose his arm to the Sea King? the same one Luffy WTFPWNed with a single punch when leaving the island?

I can’t remember how old Luffy is at that point, but I don’t think he’s any older than 9 years at that point. Luffy’s 17 when he sets out. That’s at least eight years between Shanks losing his arm (thanks to protecting Luffy, after which he scares the seacritter away with (possibly) Haki) and Shanks exuding enough willpower to crack ships.

Considering that the Straw Hats took about two years to get from “barely beat one single Kumabot with all their strength” to “Monster Trio easily one-shots one each without even breaking a sweat”, I don’t see Shanks losing an arm as a big problem

I agree. Shanks simply got better over the years.

Mark my words, this nigga (Chef Zeff, Sanji’s master) was an ex-new world pirate or even an ex-Yonko

Zeff was probably Whitebeards bff.

If I recall correctly he didn’t even make it to the new world. Might be wrong thou!

I think he only made it to the grand line then he found Sanji.

People improve brah. What you should really be wondering is how the hell did he make it out there to save Luffy so fast when the Mt. Bandit was waaaaaay out in the middle of the sea.

It would be very refreshing if Oda swtiched it up an actually have Luffy & Law tag team Doflamingo. That outcome feels a lot more realistic than Luffy mano a mano’n a dude of Donquixote’s caliber.

Luffy: “Gomu Gomu no… WOLVERINE TEMPEST!!!

Law: “I’ve been saving this technique with you in mind for years Joker… Room!.. DETROIT!

I’m aware of that - we just watched Luffy and Co do that, but for how far up the ladder Shanks climbed…not just a Warlord, but a Yonkou - he shouldn’t have been a ‘scrub’ when he saved Luffy. If anything his proficiency THEN at using haki coupled with his mental toughness (really, his arm gets taken off and he’s still cold chillin - holding Luffy) - I would think he’s already ‘someone’. Nothing is far fetched about any of it and I’m NOT calling BS on anyone who’s commented on it - especially with that approach, but it still feels weird that someone would climb that high, ‘that fast’ not just in rank but in power. Luffy is the main character and looked upon as the future - so it makes sense…so Shanks to have the same ‘treatment’ just isn’t expected shrug.

though his crew and their demeanor changes GREATLY form the start to ‘the last time we saw them’.

Stop trying to make sense of it unreal, no one in here will acknowledge the strangeness of only main characters getting stronger.

“Oh I lost and didn’t die, instead of being even more motivated to go fuck up that Luffy asshole, I guess I will just go to the moon”

Shanks arm got bit off so he could be the person with one arm. He probably let it happen on purpose because he is the representation of the author and is stronger than everyone and wanted to look cooler.

There, I explained it.

I always felt like Shanks losing an arm was just a way for Oda to solidify Luffy and Shank’s already relatively strong relationship through usage of self-sacrifice which really ties onto people’s emotions.

Also, I had always just assumed that Trollslash knew nothing about One Piece and was just here to troll the shit out of everyone.

I guess not. And lol at the Absalom reference, by the way.

It’s been said whenever Shanks and Mihawk dueled, the world would shake from their power. Did they mean this literally? Hard to imagine Mihawk breaking a sweat. The day we get to that point though…

I think the craziest part of that statement was both Shanks and Mihawk weren’t even at their strongest at the time. I’m pretty sure that Mihawk wasn’t the strongest swordsman in the world yet and Shanks still had both his arms. So the skinny, happy go lucky Shanks we see in the flashbacks was still a monster.

He was the first person in One Piece to call the grand line ‘Paradice’ hinting that he may have made it into the new world
