Sure, one could assert that this is a fucked up world that we live in and that they should have known better; but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the actions that were taken against them by the police officers were righteous and just.
Regarding the police officers, I personally do not believe that simply checking out/assessing the situation is a bad idea in a case like this. Underage age girl, two adult males, out at 3:00a.m, etc. Checking her out to make sure that she was okay seems fine to me, assuming of course that they weren’t operating under any sort of preconceived notion.
Idly ignoring the temporary guardian forms was improper. The girl even claimed that she was crying while trying to hand them the phone in order to speak with her mother, further proving that she was there under her own consent.
And of course from there it was just insert racism by the police officers.
@rcaido I agree. The situation is fucked up but you gotta use common sense that no matter what piece of paper you have that is legally just and correct, it just looks fishy. And that’s all the cops need, is that it just looks off to them. In my Business Law and American Government both professors are lawyers and they reiterate the same old shit, “There’s the law and then there’s the reality.” It’s unfortunate and completely fucking stupid but it is the reality.
Hell, when my family (asian wife and half-asian daughter) went home to my immediate family’s for Turkey Day this year, my dad and I stopped into Shop Rite to gather some last minute supplies and my dad decided to hit the deli counter. He puts the order in, then steps away to get some other stuff while the butcher is working. The entire time I’m standing with my dad in clear view of the butcher talking loud as hell about our family members and how crazy Turkey Day is for us. Butcher finishes the order and looks all confused because my dad is nowhere to be found, dude walks right by me looking for my dad. I stop him and ask if the order is all done with my hand outstretched to receive it; dude yanks it back like I’m trying to steal his baby looking at me all crazy eyes. So I tell him that my dad asked me to get that from him when he’s done.
Butcher stares at me point blank, "W-what, he’s your father?"
Me: "Yeah."
Butcher: "But he’s white."
Me: "Just like Jesus."
Butcher: "But you’re…"
Me: "White."
Butcher: "I mean, Black…"
Me: "Also like Jesus."
Butcher: "lol; Jesus ain’t Black."
Me: "You must be new here."
Butcher: "Nah, I’m from here."
Me: “I meant planet Earth.”
I swear if he saw my half-asian daughter who looks mostly asian (with ZERO blackness in that hair) he’d have a heart attack. Also this butcher must have been 30 years old max. Just dumb racist fuckers everywhere.

Questioning and validating the story is different from aggressively handcuffing and originally refusing to talk on the phone with the mother. And the whole “you two men are black and she’s white” clinches the fact they are basing this off race. If the cops said “You are 2 grown men with a young teenage girl in the middle of the night” that’s one thing. Adding the black and white part without saying anything else means…they were concerned about the race.
I swear this shit is the real race bait, treating ppl like shit while skirting the legal system so that minorities get mad enough to do some crazy shit to justify some kind of race war that all these crazy gun nuts want. Give them an excuse to use their vast weapon caches and look like the good guy to the rest of the world so places like China don’t shit on them.
You know I have lived 4 years in Chicago I don’t know how many black people live in Texas but I can tell you I have met people here who look more menacing than those 2 dancers, still they’re are some of the friendliest most outgoing, warm people I have ever met and they are all happened to be black.
Maybe I’m entering dark places, but this would’ve been twice as wrong had the 3 been related (siblings, cousins, uncles/niece, whatever), or what if the mother knew something like this would happen, and had set those two up?

Even if you eliminate the race issue, you still have people profiled and targeted because of class. Being Poor, looking to ghetto/urban, being young (teen/ young adult) is all things cops look for if race is taken out of the equation. The rich looking person is not going to targeted as much as the person who looks like the live in a bad neighborhood of the inner city.
Yes after 50 some odd years race is still a issue (it shoudn’t but it is) but class, (Lower, Middle, Upper) has been a issue for much longer than race ever was.

This could not have been a ‘class’ situation. This had everything to do with the two guys being black males.
Don’t agree? Here’s a scenario:
You are a cop on duty late at night. While on duty, you see two potentially suspicious situations occuring coming from two different directions - in one direction, you see two young obviously lower classed fratty-looking white men escorting an obviously underaged black female to her destination. Meanwhile, in the opposing direction, you see two young, obviously upperclass, Carlton and Cliff Paul-looking black men escorting an obviously underaged white female to her destination.
As an officer on duty, who do you think your department or colleagues would want to go after first? Which one is going to make the better case? Sure, classism has been around forever, but racism has always held a lot more water.
It’s very apparent that there is still this inexplicably unreasonable dismay towards specifically black Americans in this country. For whatever reason, all other blacks (Africans, West Indians, black Latinos, etc.) are magically exempt from this phenomia. Our current president is evidence of this. Had he been named Terry Jackson from, say Kansas City, I doubt he would’ve even been elected into office because he wouldn’t fit the mold for the fake ‘safe’ image America wants to have and project. When are we going to have a president with glasses or facial hair again? How about another overweight one to be a representative of our people?
And whenever someone points things like this out, people on the internet either A.) quickly get all defensive, bemoan, and accuse that person of reverse-exploitation, and expect them to be content with all the disingenuous knee-jerk politcally correctness of today or B.) Try to make an argument that racially-based scenarios such as this one are actually more of a class thing. Then the follow-up argument they love to bring up that once short-lived legacy in America that involved the struggle and discrimination lower class whites had to endure.

Every time I explain to Negroes (of all people) that it’s impossible for blacks to be racist they look at me like I’m crazy because they don’t know the PROPER definition of racism. Black people can’t be racist because they don’t have any SOCIAL, ECONOMIC or POLITICAL institutions to back up their HATRED. Racism is about POWER not just skin color. That’s called PREJUDICE, in which they can be prejudice and bigoted. But as far as racism that’s out the question for them.
