OLD UIUC 2011 Thread

And what is this way of how you punish him. When he has Ryu covering him it is literally impossible.

Honestly at this point I dont really care to delve this deep into the game anymore. I dont really enjoy the games system mechanics. I really dont like how often mega crashes are going off for example.

And honestly when frank/cash lands a hit against a blade team that means I get instamegacrashed pretty much all the time since blade builds hella meter very fast while I am usually desperate for meter because 3/4 of the match I cant really touch Blade. Only time I get to do any damage with frank is when mike does something really stupid with 0-1 bars of meter and I get to infinite him. Outside of that I have no real good punishers. Blade can punish easily a guard string with push block into his instant super.

More than anything else Blade just seems to rape my characters who are both fairly slow with no range. It kinda sucks.

And dont get me wrong, I still get frequent wins vs Mike when we play. Its not like I cant beat him, thats not my point. My point is that my wins do not come from ANYTHING that I am doing right. Only time I really win big is it Mike makes a huge mistake with Blade really early in the Match which really isnt that often. And if he doesnt it becomes a very very hard battle of trying to block, stay away, land anything for damage. And the further along that process goes mike ends up with 5 meters while I am still stuck with 2. He can mega crash twice and be fine. I mega crash once I am probably screwed. Me and Mike are pretty even technically when it comes to mind games and executions. If we are both playing even, I will probably lose most of the time. Frank/Cash has no mixups, bad lows, bad range, poor meter building.

And I am not blaming this at all on Blade being good. Blade is VERY VERY good, its just my fault for picking bad characters and Im going to have to live with that cause besides maaaaybe alex, I aint sending that much time learning anyone else.

So thats that. Im not bitching about Blade anymore. (That means you gotta stop bitching about Rufus Mike!!! >=) )

Also Xian: please dont assume that I dont know what I am doing until you have actually seen me play. I am still decent at TvC its just that I am starting to not care about it as much. Frank started out beign super fun and original and over night he turned into one of the dumbest characters in the game with a brain dead infinite. It basically killed the character for me cause now I dont have fun trying new stuff cause now tis just, land infinite for the best damage.

Cash is still really cool though. Im probably best with him.

And to make a long post even longer:

ITS TIME TO OIL UP!

^ Hey, whatever you do: don’t drag me into this, guys. I didn’t say a word. In fact, I’m just now seeing all this TVC stuff on here.

I wasn’t assuming that you don’t know hot to play TvC just that you don’t know the Blade match-up since most don’t.

Just grab him a lot. You have invincibility during grabs so the hadouken goes right through you. You can grab him during block strings quite easily as well which stops his pressure game and puts the match at even. He won’t be gaining a lot of meter if he cant get a hit in because you grab him every time you get the chance too. Also mike tends to megacrash out of grabs for some weird reason. Also as for Blade push blocking into Crash Interlude try finding a move that beats it. I know that sounds impossible since that move is so good but we found that Jun’s 2C actually beats Crash Interlude. It could be that its a low attack and that every characters could beat it but we haven’t tested it that far yet.

I wasnt planning on it.

Anyway, I have had a really shitty week so I have been like a bitter old man lately so sorry about that everyone.

Cant wait for friday, I havent played anything in almost 2 weeks it seems.

Just grab him a lot. People underestimate how good grabs are in this game. On one match I beat both Blade/Ryu with only using grabs on Blade and I only lost half of Jun’s health and tekkaman didn’t come out during the match Also as for Blade push blocking into Crash Interlude try finding a move that beats it. I know that sounds impossible since that move is so good but we found that Jun’s 2C actually beats Crash Interlude. It could be that its a low attack and that every characters could beat it but we haven’t tested it that far yet.

Ah…nonsense, James. I probably could’ve been a little less antagonistic about the whole SUPER discussion, but, hey: it’s you and me we’re talking about, right? :wgrin: So, for that, I’m sorry too, buddy. Can’t wait til Friday!!!

Yeah, I’m excited for friday for sure.

I’ve been cooking up a few new things in the lab with Chun, and I took some advice from dennis and fixed a big execution hole in my game.

For as much bitching as I have done about super, you know I’ll get it the MORNING that shit comes out (prolly take the day off work) and its going to be kikosho madness ALL DAY LOOOOOOONG.

April 27th/28th will be a day of me doing all the challenges and learning EVERY SINGLE THING about Dudley.

…and Hakan =O

Don’t think I’ll make it to MWC. It’s right before finals, and I have an exam on Monday…

sadpanda

:frowning:

I’m in the same boat as Dennis. It sucks that its so close to my hometown but I can’t even go to support you guys :frowning:

The latest confirmed stuff for super:

? Focus Attacks are faster, you have to be more aware of them now or you’ll eat a combo.

? It seems like Super moves across the board do more damage.

? Sagat has 1,000 health now, down from 1,100.

? Zangief has 1,100 health, which is down from 1,200. Hit box on the Lariat got moved up a bit so it’s easier to duck under.

? Ken’s Hard Dragon Punch has more invincibility.

? Abel’s new Ultra is really good. It’s a dashing grab which has one hit of Super Armor. You can also charge his Ultra up by holding the buttons, which keeps him in place for a moment.

? Juri can store multiple fireballs using each of her kick buttons and it may be possible to have multiple projectiles on the screen at one time.

? Cammy’s Spiral Arrow (Cannon Drill) seems more like it was in Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix. Not exactly as good, but safer on block.

? Gouken’s Ultra 2 (Denjin Hadouken) when fully charged is still blockable, but it does 500 stun damage if blocked or if it connects.

? Sakura can combo into her Ultra 2 without using any meter.

? Dee Jay’s Machine Gun Punch is a charge move now and you no longer have to mash punches after the fact. People say he’s a better version of Guile.

? T. Hawk’s Condor Spire seems to be a really good tool for getting inside. Hawk Dive doesn’t travel as far forward, so it doesn’t seem as useful as before.

? Cody’s Zonk Knuckle has different versions depending on the button you hold. Takes about 4 seconds to charge it up. Cody can Focus Attack Dash Cancel off of almost every move he has.

lol they gave kens hp dp more invunerabilty! He needed it badly but that just means flow chart will work even better online LOL

wow 500 stun on block for goukens denjin? that is actually VERY good. That could be very scary after a knock down after say his EX DP combos which already do a lot of stun. Gouken could be a hidden beast.

Yeah…good lord…500 stun on BLOCK???

Man you just KNOW that is going to produce a lot of scrub rage online.

And just think about how much damage his EX combos can do.

Lets think here:

combo into EX dp with gouken, instead of following up do an immdediate denjin when you recover and charge it. Throw it so it lands meaty, laugh as they probably get stunned. Demon flip, dive, into a HUGE ex dp corner combo.

Jesus Christ theory fighter ftw.

All I know is its looking like Chun MAY have also received a health buff. This is still not for certain yet.

Between her U2 options and a possible health buff…oh my god…this is going to be glorious.

I’m starting to realize how valuable it really was for me to stick with Chun and put in so much time with her in SF4.

It seems like all the characters that can combo into Ultra WITHOUT using FADC are going to be good characters.

For example:

Wizard said Sakura feels very Alpha 3 like, and has her sick j.mk cross up now. Also, she can combo into her U2 without the use of meter, just cr. jab > cr. jab > LP SRK xx Ultra2

Dudley has the same combo, cr. jab > cr. jab xx LP SRK xx Corkscrew Cross

Ibuki… she looks sick and can super jump cancel into Ultra

Makoto with her Super into Ultra cancels

Juri has a few ways also

I believe there are more now too, but it’s looking like the characters that don’t need to use meter to go into Ultra (outside of Makoto, but that’s a ToD type combo) are going to be really strong. Add that to the fact that there are no trades into Ultra any more, and we have a whole new game on our hands.

Personally, I think that is the biggest “upgrade.” But, how much is it going to hurt the zoning game in the SF4 engine? SF4 was all about zoning and footsies, but without Sagat and Ryu trading into free ultras, does that take away the fear to jump in? I know for a fact, that if I have a J. RH that does about 110 damage, and Ryu’s SRK only does about 130, and I have a sizeable life lead, I’ll jump in on that fucker all day and take the trade, or make him block.

Plus you can stuff wake up SRK on Ryu with meaties. FUCKING MEATIES ARE FINALLY IN SF4! I’m very excited about that. Ken has more invincibility on his HP SRK, but I’m sure there are going ot be meaties to stuff that shit too. The game just became much more offensive in that you can’t trade into Ultra, so being aggressive is a good thing now, and meaties work, so pressuring on wakeup works.

Super is looking to be the perfect upgrade game. As long as character balance is still there, we might have a game we play for 8 years like CvS2, 3s, and MvC2.

Are we meeting at James’ tomorrow?

Tommorow should still be at Mike/Brians/Taras place. I think this is the last time.

Makoto has a command grab-> ultra1.

I really hope Fei can command grab->ultra. That would be delish.

Man I love using Fei vs Abel lol. I played a random Abel online and did cross up mk, s.lp, s.hp, ex chicken, s.hp, ex chicken, s.hp which stunned him and then did lv3 focus to ultra ftw! I wish I could do that on every character with Fei.

Also I think Ryus srk trades with meaties. But still thats AWESOME since there is no more trade->ultra.

No trades into Ultra??? MEATIES!!! Holy shit!!! Could it be true…??? Can that mean…GASP!…Street Fighter is back!!! Capcom: now you have my undivided attention. Go…

And yes, games at my place. I need volunteers: The p.c. will be gone, and we’ll have room for one more set-up…scratch that…two more set-ups: one on the “kitchen” table and one in my room. So, what I need from folks are the following:

  • 2 monitors w/inputs
  • 2 PS3s or XBOX 360s w/all cables and what-not
  • 2 console-accommodating copies of Street Fighter IV
  • Appropriate number of console-accommodating sticks to supply each station
  • 1 PS2-specific arcade stick for the Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom station (James, if you could volunteer that one, I owe you a chili cheese dog from Tastee Freeze :wgrin:)

As of right now, IN THE APARTMENT…we have Brian’s and my TE sticks and my TVC stick. I can pick up 3 people in one trip. I don’t mind making a second trip, but I might ask for a few dollars simply because I’m borrowing someone else’s car. I’d really recommend that those of you that can please try and car pool, and that’ll cut down on drive-time for everyone. I’ll just leave it to you guys to sort things out on here. Any help would be great, and PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMMUNICATE ON HERE!!! lol Otherwise we won’t know which systems to bring, which games, sticks, etc. Ready??? BREAK!!!

Call me if anybody needs anything. Yes, my phone works, before you ask (smart asses…):

Ask for “Fernando”.
