Old school vs newcomers

By definition, someone willing to learn and improve his game isn’t a scrub.

Agreed… back to what I posted before, there’s a difference between a nub (noob/newb) and a scrub.

Nubs are new and/or unskilled.

Scrubs don’t want to/refuse to progress or learn, blaming the result of their inadequacies on outside forces.

Or…you can block his reset attempt to kill you, (he actually needs to hit you twice) and then kill him =)

i was gonna post a reply to it, and i had a nice paragraph typed, but i was like fuck it. i feel where he’s coming from a bit, but people need to step up that d, and look for the gaps and learn how to play against msp. especially if he playin online msp. minus online shenanigans, them niggaz suck, except a few.

No need to hit twice with Gief airthrow assist… free reset! =D

They would be considered a scrub by better players, truth be told there (which you wont admit). "He a scrub, but he kinda got game though…"
But someone who kinda knows the mechanics of a fighting game could be considered a scrub as well, and not a noob. A noob is someone who is new to that game, not necessarily new to fighting games in general. And even though theyre new to the game, doesnt mean theyre a scrub. So, it is more complicated than just noob and scrub by face value. A person who plays MvC2, without any intentions of learning would fall into the category of a scrub, like I mentioned. There are different meanings of a scrub. Someone who sucks, someone who sucks but tries to get better, and someone who really doesnt care for the game at all, they just play for leisure. When I first started playing MvC2, I never considered myself a scrub, even though I sucked (to my standards). Which is the reason I didnt consider myself a scrub, because I knew I had potential. Its really what others think of you that defines a scrub, you may or may not consider yourself a scrub. Lack of experience doesnt mean youre a scrub neither, that just means you dont have experience. Thats a superficial mindstate of people who are experienced in a particular game. Someone who hasnt played in tourneys (but was pretty good) could win a tourney, without that experience. So, nothing is of face value, its more complicated than just calling someone a scrub because of their lack of experience. Hope I shed a light to this issue…

Someone who had never played in tourneys would be absolutely STOMPED in tourneys in Seattle, where I played. If they’re not been playing against good competition, they could at best stand a chance against a couple players. Someone who hasn’t been to tourneys will not stand a chance in hell against Row, JMar, or the vast majority of the Seattle regulars in tourney. The game’s been being played for close to ten years now, we’ve had people who’ve been playing outside of tourney start to show up many times during that period, and it’s NEVER happened that someone who’s been playing outside has come in and just beaten a bunch of the experienced tourney players, much less won.

I’m banned now. Don’t respond to my posts.

im a old school player, sometimes when i beat someone they send me a message on how did i do that they wanna get better and etc… i have no problem helping them out.

fuck that. or you can get hit once and then ROM to corner to unmashable tempest DHC to Proton Cannon. GGPO, no 2nd chance at blocking a reset

lol, “we avoid that room like the plague…”

I know what you mean. do you think they would ever make that option for making rooms?

grappler baki was one of my first anime films I bought. I brought it in my middle school for anime day and well behold…it wasn’t safe for children to watch and had to watch Pokemon for the rest of the day… lol

also, everyone in here talking about getting how new players have to get their butts whooped in order to learn is speaking truth. Began learning the game in 07’ and well I’m not good but I can hang. dedication, that is all.

oldschool > new school unless you are a new schooler learning from an old school. if all new school people play against is msp, santhrax, and i dont know…combofiend and scrub? How are they going to do when they run up on a good strider/doom, or blackheart, or spiral? marvel is all about experience, and experience takes time. yipes isn’t even as new school as a lot of people think. he’s been playing marvel for a long time! marvel is a great game though, a lot more fun and deep than lets say…sf4 lol

this was (still is…) my problem. though it’s not necessarily just playing against new school. I’ve been playing all old school (I was the new school in chi) but there wasn’t much of a scene left and they never used these teams that often if at all.

cable still gives me issues
I don’t really know how to fight BH
and competent striders/spirals own me fraaay usually.

though at least I will never get surprised and beat hard by an anakaris player, like out of towners do when they play gabe :stuck_out_tongue:

Well you play ironman, so its expected that bh and trap teams could present problems to you. Since a lot of people dont play blackheart anymore they dont know/realize that blackheart is a huge counter to almost any ironman team except combofiend. phat toi’s team (ironman/cable/sent) would probably be alright against bh teams too because he has counter in ahvb. but bh’s assist, especially when paired with sentinel, is a nightmare for ironman. but i guess this is fair though, because ironman can land one hit and kill your whole team off.

cable is just a beast. it really depends on the skill level of whos playing cable too. patience i think is the best key against cable, that said, he still shoots the best.
