Old Man Logan

woooo weeee that shit is gonna end up being amazing
especially after seeing the map on the last few pages

millar continues to be amazing, imho of course
(pick up kick ass + 1985 if you havent)

I dunno, I’m skeptical with Wolverine lately. He’s overhyped and suffers from problems that Spidey seems to have, where sometimes good writers just fuck him up. Loeb, probably the most polar opposite love/hate writer ever, did a shitastic job during his run.

Wolverine hasn’t interested me in a long time, the only remarkable thing I’ve seen done with him is including him in the X-Men, which was pleasing and neat.

well its basically set 50 years into the future where the earth is a total wasteland and most heroes are dead
him and hawkeye traverse the entire country to deliver something and deal with places like hulkland, dooms lair, and osborn city

this is basically wolverine + mad max
its wicked and totally in canon

It’s in canon “For the moment” Marvel will eventually retcon it or say it’s one “Possible” future.

One thing I hate about future comics and stuff. We will never get to this point in comics, at least in any of our lifetimes.

I just treat them as glorified “What if’s?”.

I’m sure we’re all loathe to consider it, but is continuity really that important? Is a story any better just because it’s tenuously connected to an improbably large sequence of other stories that all happened to the same people in the same world?

I think it’s kind of like not seeing the forest for the trees when readers reject certain stories for not being real, for not really happening. The reality is, none of them happened, so they’re all equally valid in my eyes.

Not rejecting it based on it’s idea, just questioning it. I’ll check it out for sure,
just future comics seem like a cop-out in some sense.

Like if a writer wants to drastically turn a character on it’s head, 90% of the time it has to be in some type of future. It happened to Hulk, X-Men, Spidey, etc.

Just me complaining about consistency, don’t mind it lol.

mcniven is drawing it. i’m getting it

Old Man Logan is off to a rollicking start. Continuity is overrated, it’s an imaginary story, aren’t they all, etc., etc.

As I’ve said before, no future story will ever be canon in the long run because it would pigeon hole writers for years and these things get contradicted faster than you can spit because there is no way you can expect writers to keep future stories straight when they have enough trouble dealing with 40 years + worth of stories. Wolverine The End? Blob lost his powers after House of M and Sabretooth died much earlier, retconned. X-Men The End? Gambit is not the third Summers brother, Vulcan is. Retconned. Earth X? Colossus is dead, oh no wait, he’s alive… but Wolverine’s an evolutionary mistep, not an alien. Retconned. If you can even say ‘retconned’ because future stories are never really canon… It will happen sooner or later with this arc. Just enjoy the story for what it is, a look at a possible future. 'Sides the way Marvel works, it can be a canon future “right now” and something could happen to retcon it, but then it will become an Alternate Earth, ack… Don’t think about it… :wasted:

JQ said that this future is supposed to have ties to 1985. Haven’t read that yet so don’t know much about that book.

Loved the first issue. Hulk’s descendants lol!

greatest dumb quote ever… “contuity is for white people”

the old guard dc and marvel protect comic present and future wayyyy to much. the past is easily fucked with. the future should have a definite end, or have a definite what it will look like. all stories should pan out in a 10-20 span to end up to that future…why? because that would be creative as fuck…sumtin the old guard wouldnt ever do.

LOL it’s funny that Hawkeye winds up blind in both this future and in M2 (Spider-Girl, J2, American Dream where you can see blind Hawkeye, etc). Poor guy oooh…

hmmm i agree with sano. the arc is just an excuse to give you an idea of the next big crossover coming up.

So has anyone picked this up yet? I just got it yesterday and finished reading the issue, for the most part I really enjoyed it, which makes it worse that I won’t see more of this cool future. But I’m getting off topic, so here’s some stuff I want answered and thought was cool.

First off the map and the four kingdoms. How the fuck did the Kingpin take over Magneto’s territory? It sure wasn’t by fighting one on one that’s for damn sure…

Did Hulk just shack up with a bunch of crazy red necks? Or “Green” Necks.

What the fuck happened to the heroes?

Onto stuff I thought was cool. Giving Wolverine some emotion is great, I like Wolverine a lot, I’m a closet fan (No homo). It’s just most times I see him he’s like “Blargh I’m Canadian!” and goes clawing up crap while saying bub every .5 seconds.

The only Wolverine I’ve liked in recent years was the Joss Whedon Astonishing run version, and oddly the New Avengers one, especially during the Hood arc.

Interesting thing you might not notice:

Apparently the Lizard is now the Lizard King, shown on the map in Florida. Now flip over your issue of Old Man Logan, doesn’t that look like the Lizard with the symbiote? Oh my god that’ll be cool lol.

I haven’t picked it up yet. But I really want too.

Did anyone read Logan in the “X-Force : Ain’t no Dog” one shot ?

They kinda look like Hulk and She Hulk got it on. Yeah i said it

Map reminds of AOA territories

im kinda pissed off i didnt get this variant when i saw it

http://www.marvel.com/comics/onsale/lib/view2.htm?filename=/comics/onsale/covers/uploaded/0.242590001213626616image_big.jpg

it was 50 bones and im really pissed off i didnt get it when it was right in front of me

oh god who else fuckin hates shit like that. u kinna wish they would go all out and have some balls…take a leap and actually say this is whats going to happen to this character, this is what its going to be about, this is how this story ends.

does anyone have any idea what the artwork will be like?

Both to you and Maxx, just stopped being lazy to respond in more detail lol -It’s difficult to do stuff like that with American comics because well… Unless the industry dies or 616 no longer exists or something by 2050 comics will still be around and of course there is no way the actual future can match up to whatever is in a comic book. By 2050 you can bet that all of the characters will still be 20-30 and will be set in that world (whatever movies, music, technology is being used) and not have aged much.

I suppose you can compare it to… well, Hokuto No Ken AKA Fist of the North Star, like your name and avatar lol! The future for that has been 199X when it was written. We know for a fact that the world didn’t ‘end’ in 199X. So already, it’s not timeless as American comics try to be, it defaults to an alternate reality of sorts, can no way happen in our world - like American comics try to come off as. If someone revamps Hokuto No Ken, the very first thing they’ll say is that it happens in “2030” or some far off year. Well, the creators have still stuck to 199X and now even more so with the prequel Fist of the Blue Sky it has to take place in 199X, but I guarantee you if they ever revamp the franchise it will not take place in 199X. Already it loses some of it’s impact when you know going in that this doesn’t happen to our world, but world X…

Any future story you should regard to as ‘the future of right now’ because writers aren’t psychic and everything has to be based on what we know right now and there are plenty of things that are not going to hold up. Like, the NES Strider game set in the future where they use FLOPPY DISCS! Or the original Star Trek and Star Wars being the future of the 60s/70s. Okay I know Star Wars happened a long time ago, but bell bottoms and side burns in the old trilogy and martial arts in the new trilogy… it’s the future of then/now all over again…

The usual safe way around this is to place the future faaaaaar into the future, like Cable’s future or Legion of Super Heroes. Or 2099 where they don’t mention too much what happened to characters in the past avoiding writers getting pigeon holed. Of course we will eventually hit 2099 and if the people of that time never see a flying car… Well… :looney: Though again, if you don’t use a future that involves many of our favorite characters, there is no real hook and like who really cares? So it’s very problematic…

Hmm I don’t know how confusing this all is because anything involving time is difficult to talk about… The best example I can give you is The Jetsons on Harvey Birdman. George Jetson was talking about ‘The Future’ that would take place around 2000 and Harvey Birdman looked at him like he was stupid and checked his calender to see that it was 2005 or whatever current year it was, seeing how we didn’t have any of the crap he was talking about. For Jetsons, the series is done, any revamps will extend the time to 3000, doesn’t matter. But for Marvel / DC who try to stay current with whoever is buying comics at the time and try to mantain a constant continuity, future stories just aren’t going to hold up in the long run.

So just take this and any / all future stories as “The future of right now” or “The future of whenever they are written.” I mean, seriously, do you think any future writers predicted the Twin Towers would fall and they would eventually be replaced with 2 buildings that look nothing like them? Robotech The New Generation AKA Mospeada no longer happens oh nooos… So until the second coming of Nostraldamus starts writing comics, expect these things to not hold up…

Shorter version of this post - Don’t take this too seriously, sit back and enjoy a good story because that’s what Old Man Logan is gosh darn it all to heck! If you want to believe that this is the definitive future, feel free. At the very least since Marvel is tying this with 1985 and whatever’s going on in Fantastic Four, they won’t retcon it any time soon so just sit back and enjoy. :woot:

lol i forgot i posted in this thread.

old people suck. WUT WUT!

Hmm should I make a long and boring post defending old people like myself? Nah… “When I was your age we didn’t have no internets…”
