ssf4 ae ken is now a ken :slight_smile: but lp dp into kara ex dp seems impossilbe

After watching BananaKen at CEO, I really want to get Ken’s combos into sweep down so that I can get that untechable knock-down.

My question: Is it off of a cr. mp like Ryu’s? Or is there another normal it combos after? I wasn’t getting the sweep off the other night in training mode off of cr. mp.

What should I do to get the combo off more consistently?

you can’t do it off of cr. mp unless it is a counter hit, you can do it off of far st mp, an easy sweep combo cr lk, st lp sweep. in that combo you can add a st mp to sweep, and you can add a cr. lp then st lp then mp and sweep

Is any of Ken’s overheads able to combo [besides counterhit]?

I don’t think so. IIRC f+HK is +1 or something on hit and I don’t think b+MK combos into anything even on CH.

no disrespect, I’m still a novice with ken but whats wrong with doing a shoryuken when you have the opportunity to? is it looked down on?

haha another thing too is my friend calls me a scrub for doing heavy shoryu against his balrog when he dash punches, i catch him maybe 9/10 of time. I can understand though that answering with shoryu to a dash punch can make hiim bait me, but i try to mix it up as much as possible, my biggest problem right now is being unpredictable.

you can throw dash punches if you want to mix up what your doing.

Yes. This is a very simple question dude.

Ken’s sweep has 7 frame start-up, therefore it will combo from any move that gives you at least +7.

These are:

cl.st.lp
far.st.lp
far.st.mp
cl.st.mk

Any other moves will require a counterhit of some kind in order to combo. cr.mp is usually +4 on hit for example but goes up to +7 on a counterhit.

i have a question for ken players…why does no one use ultra 2? isn’t it possible to combo it from FADC after a fireball? kinda new to this ken.

you can but u kinda need to be somewhat close, isnt a 100% for sure thing, its a lil easier with an ex fb.
you can also confirm it off a air ex tatsu too.

but u1 has more set ups even tho it doesnt do the full ultra. unless its counter hit then it’ll do the full ultra

Question for Ken players.

  1. I’m having trouble with FADC U1 full hit any tips on that one?
    2.Does anyone know any good Kara setups/mix-ups with Ken?

  1. Level 3 Focus, dash forward taunt 1, immediately fp.shoryu FADC into U1.
  2. For Kara grab, shoryu, hadouken, or focus?
    Personally, for kara grab, I love doing cr. short, cr. jab walk back a little and grab their crouch tech.
    For kara focus, I usually use it when I notice that my opponent really wants to hit me when i whiff something, so i just kara focus and they think i whiff a move, hit my focus, then I just release and probably will get a crumble on them.

I havent really found a good use for kara shoryu/hadouken so I cant give my opinion on that.

I think its because U1 just has so many more ways of landing it then U2.

the following is also possible: raw ex fb, cr.lp, cr.hp xx srk
if you pack a FA3 in front, you’ll get slightly more damage than FA3 cl.st. hk xx ex srk
utilizing this is kinda hard though, doing 2 1-frame links back to back. i’d rather do the easy ones.

To add: kara fpshoryu has great uses in ch setups such as… Cl.mk, after cr.short or cr.jab, and after a step kick on block or hit. Just to catch an opponents crouch tech. And one more use for Kara fpshoryu is when the opponent tries to jump in on you from a great distance. Which gives you an anti air fpshoryu where you can fadc to full ultra.

Now for Kara hado: uses are mainly in fireball wars mid to full screen away just to help get in.(ie. Sagat, guile, ryu, evil ryu, etc.)

Ex fireball(which now gives +3 on hit because of one frame less recovery) combos only work when the enemy has his back all the way to the edge of the screen after a cr.mp.
Easy setup to get to the situation is putting the enemy in the corner with back throw, or step kick pressure…

really? damn i never knew that. I’m gonna practice it in training mode. Is the timing strict?
