what works besides jabs and j hk into ultra (normals only!)? Does c/st mp/mk or low short(s) work?
cl.MK works. far MP too but that needs to be counter-hit.
Jab, cl.mk and far.mp combos into U2.
Far.mp doesn’t need to be counterhit.
Actually, you’re right… forgot that far MP has the same + frames as jab.
That freaking rules. So can it work with c mk? I don’t own the game… But if that works… SHIPPU! JINRAI KYAKU!
That ultra looks really dumb though when it misses.
And can ken link into something after an ex tatsu or can he just reset?
It’s just a reset.
Following the above tatsu discussion would it be safe to assume the best combo ender without meter would be mk tatsu?
MK Tatsu tends to whiff from time to time but it could just be the hit confirm’s I’m using. The only time I’d use MK Tatsu is when my opponent has a 1 frame start-up move, like a command grab and I had no meter.
I personally like to end my combos with a SRK because of the knockdown and in AE, I’d prefer to end it with a sweep because it’s an untechable knockdown. It takes away from the guessing game a bit.
I feel kind of embarrassed asking this but here I go. I started vanilla playing almost exclusively Ryu for almost a year. Then I finally picked up Ken and have been playing him since right before Super came out. Ryu is my favorite character, but I think Ken’s style is a better fit for how I like to play.
Anyways, with Ryu, doing the cr. short into cr. jab is a piece of cake. Press the buttons one after another and it always works like it should. But with Ken, I still have a lot of trouble doing this consistently and it’s really pissing me off. I’ve lost several matches because of this(offline and online) and I wonder if you guys can help me understand the timing better.
I can hit his 2 frame link into cr. MK all day, but still I drop the lk into lp chain like 30% of the time and that’s just unacceptable. It is a chain right? I’m starting to believe it’s a link just because I kind of struggle with it. It just seems like there is some kind of timing involved where as with Ryu or Akuma for example, it just works. Any help would be appreciated.
It’s just timing dude.
I’ve always played with Ken so his cr.lk, cr.lp chain is easy. When I switch to Ryu, I mess it up like 70% of the time.
Although both characters can chain their cr.lk into cr.lp, the timing is different to chain it.
So it’s just practice I’m afraid…
Peace,
G.
Understood, I pretty much knew already that much couldn’t be said about what I’m asking but I appreciate it anyways.
Can throw win over Dp? Is it possible for me as a ken player to throw another ken (or ryu, akuma etc.) in the start of a Dp?
Throws lose to dp
messing around in training mode and found a pretty cool combo that works on certain characters.
close standing mk, crouching fierce into tatsu.
only tried it on 5 characters
works on dudley, cody
doesnt work on ryu, akuma, bison
does decent damage and stun off a the standing mk:)
crosses fingers i hope i found something new
I’m curious if anyone has actually SAID anything about cl.mk > cr.fierce link. It might of already been understood considering you can link ultra 2 off of cl.mk which is 7 frames. So anything 7 frames and below should hit no problem. I already knew I just didn’t think much of it, dunno about anyone else.
It’s always been possible, it’s just a spacing issue. Cl.mk pushes your opponent so far away, that even cr.mk is only just connecting.
The only reason it works on a select few characters is all down to the shape of their hurtbox as they recoil from the cl.mk.
Still, nice find. Shame cl.st.mk doesn’t actually form a true block string though. Good for frame trapping though…
Peace,
G.
I wish I could incorporate cl.MK into my playing more. It’s too slow compared to other common frame trap normals like Ryu’s/Akuma’s c.MP and the range is also pretty limiting.
i think you should. it’s a more situational frame trap that’s used mainly to beat players who do late crouch techs, and does a ton of damage with low MK ex tatsu link.
I use that combo aagainst abel n sagat.if u wana think u found it go 4 it it won’t hurt any1 lol but what other characters duz it work on?sagat abel geif goken and dudly and cody?if so ill use it more thx to u
Hey guys,
I was curious to know what sort of level do you think is the highest that someone can consistently play at without knowing frame data? I play at just over 3000pp and I can use Ken to a fairly decent level. I?ve covered the basic aspects and now I feel that in order for me to push on I need to use frame data for the benefits of knowing exactly when I?m at a slight advantage or what move to use in a given situation.
Still though, I watch a lot of XBL replays and I see guys playing consistently at a higher level doing things like jumping around, air tatsus all over the place, random dps, not punishing properly etc - things that demonstrate that they haven?t thought about what they?re doing. One of the top 10 ranked Kens, Edgar R34, plays at over 4000pp and whenever I watch him, I always think that half of the things he?s doing are crazy. But he still seems to win a fair amount of those that I?ve seen him in, against similar level players.
I think for me personally, I want to learn frame data and the detailed aspects of the game not just to improve myself but to be able to appreciate the subtle skills in other people?s play. I don?t mean to sound like I?m hating on anyone but do you ever play people and find yourself at a loss to explain how they?re at that level? What do you put it down to?flukes? Unpredictability?
Do you think it’s possible to play on equal footing with someone that knows frame data inside out if you play only using knowledge you?ve gained from playing the game 1st hand? (assuming that you both have a similar level of general skill/execution)
