Ryu can L. SRK > “fake” Ultra II in the corner, but I haven’t been able to do it with Ken.
Which character did you do this against?

Has anyone noticed that s.lp whiffs on Dudley randomly? I usually do c.lk, s.lp, s.lp, c.mk xx tatsu, but the 2nd s.lp seems to whiff on Dudley pretty randomly when I was playing. I guess I could always reduce it to one s.lp for Dudley… I don’t know if it’s just me though, I’ll test it out in training mode later.
Am I the only one having trouble comboing far. st.LP into sweep? I’m a lot more consistent with cl. st.LP for some reason.
I tried the same thing until I took a look at the frame data for SSF4. It has SAME FRAME DATA as SF4, which mean you can’t ST.LP into sweep.
But it is possible to do it, timing just seems impossible with far st.LP (unless it’s T.Hawk).
if you are doing c.st.lp into sweep you need to make a vid because I will never believe it till I see it.
I’ve been working on this situation a little actually.
Against Guy, Makoto, Ibuki, Dudley, DeeJay, and E. Honda:
St.lk xx c.lp > st.lp > sweep
Now I put the arrow between the cr.lp and the st.lp because there is a pause between them which in my opinion makes it a link. The pause is there in order to let the opponents hit animation push them far enough away to allow for the st.lp to hit on the second active frame.
This is pretty hard to do, but I have it down (on these characters) almost 80% after about an hour. The timing is really specific. And you have to be as close as possible to the opponent.
Here is a video showing me doing this a few times against honda:
It is shitty quality but you can clearly make out what ken is doing and can see the combo counter read 4 at the top.
What happens if you do c.lp > st.lk > st.lp > sweep instead? I used to do that to combo into RH with Akuma sometimes (vanilla, obviously). I can’t try it out because I’ll be busy the rest of the night, but I assume it works.
Hey, what’s up guys. Sorry if this is old news, but I’ve been doing some tests in training mode with a bunch of different characters, and I’ve stumble upon Ken.
I did see this mentioned earlier, but the pretense seemed hypothetical rather than confirmed; Ken CAN combo his close s.mk into ultra. I thought I was on to something when I comboed meaty s.mp into ultra, but you don’t have to meaty that either (even though when meatied, it’s infinitely easier than it already is). That being said, I decided to find some combos into this. Aside from FADC combos, jump ins, focus attacks and stuns are the only way to combo into s.mk to MY understanding (sorry if naive), but you can combo into his far s.mp off of two jabs, whether it be s.jab s.jab or c.jab s.jab. After that, you can definitely link into ultra, so
j.hk c.lp s.lp s.mp ultra 2 works, and does 447 dmg. Obviously, the j.hk s.mk ultra does more at 506, and it is also MUCH easier to do (I nailed it seven out of ten times, and I don’t use Ken too much), but not really an easy confirm. The latter combo isn’t THAT hard to do, as I never missed the link, just messed up on the ultra timing a little bit and is super confirmable if the opponent is standing. Obviously, the sc.mk is better because I believe it knocks the opponent up? But again, I couldn’t combo into that off of any grounded normals.
I tried getting s.lk to go into ultra, but I couldn’t get it to. It seems like if it’s +5 on hit, it’s not enough, but +7 on hit is enough. Does Ken have anything that is +6 to try out? As it stands. s.lp, far s.mp and close s.mk all combo into it, and two of them are really easy to confirm.
A side note, but I’m sure this is known, I combod cl s.lp into target combo. lol It did 199 dmg I believe.
I’m sorry if all of this is old news, but I just wanted to share it in the case that it wasn’t old news, immediately.
edit:
Forgot to include this, you can do both of these off of crossup. MP would be xu.mk s.lp > s.mp or c.lp s.lp s.mp u2, and mk would just be xu.mk s.mk.
Some quick tips (if no one has experience with juri yet)
If you block her pinwheel, she is at some frame disadvantage. Everytime my friend does a a random pinwheel I can always poke out a CR. MK. So work out what you can do after that; xx hadoken, xx tatsu.
If you block her dive kick, and she continues her aerial kicks, free punish. I’d ultra that.
I’ve been practicing the s.jab, sweep link against a rose dummy and find it easier to link it against her with a jumpin fierce punch or medium kick > s.jab > c.jab > s.jab > sweep. I will see if I can some how make a video of it.
i new about the s,mk and s,mp u2 setup the 1st day the game dropd i was waitnig to see how long it took some 1 to post lol ken can also kara u2 if u plink roundhouse with fthe last foward input .kara ultra will jus giv him a tiny extra step sum times needed to get the 1st hit of the ultra 2 hit from max range
^^^ Lol u did that too i swear i thought i was the only one doing s.mp and such into U2 haha well it goes to show how much great minds really do think alike. where u been anyway bro.?
Does s.mp > u2 work on everyone because I’ve tried it in training mode and the first hit always seems to whiff.
thanks. i was literally just asking about kara ultra 2 in the Q&A thread. makes sense that you can do it since you could kara into ultra 1
You know, I was the only one repping brokeback Ken last night. I’m very disappointed in you Internets, very disappointed indeed.
Also, Juri’s pinwheels are punishable. The best she can hope for is like -4. I was just doing fierce SRK, and it was hitting, allthough that might have just been a really shit Juri. I should probably test it out properly.
.
I was repping Owen Wilson Ken last night, I took a round of Toxy last night too finally lol. Have I played you yet? I think you’ve been on my friends list for like months lol. Up for some endless later tonight?
First time posting in this thread…I think.
So anyways I’ve been using Ken in Vanilla before Super came out. While I don’t think I’m all that great I think I can keep the pressure well enough and I know some Kara shenanigans. What I’m really interested in learning are some zoning tips with Ken because well its good to be on your opponent’s face but when you got a fat lead you might as well zone them out and wait for mistakes, no? I come from using Ryu in Vanilla(still using him in super) and I cannot help but feel like Ryu’s normals have more priority than Ken’s? Perhaps I’m using the wrong moves; but lets say I am Ryu and am crouching. Someone jumps at me and I don’t think I can DP in time so what do I do? Smack them outta the air with Ryu’s cHP which almost never trades. With Ken this doesn’t seem to be the case. I either trade or get stuffed. Sometimes I do get them when I do it early. Ugh…so I just want know what normals work for what distance etc.
Also I’d like some tips on when to go for DP or Tatsu in my BnBs. I know this is most likely personal taste, but I’d like to see what you guys think of the 2 combo-enders and how they should be alternated? Perhaps using Shoryu when the char is weak on wakeup or if I know the opponent aint that good at handling wakeup madness.
Thanks in advance.
PS - Ultra 2 is a godsend.
IIRC the hitbox on Ken’s cr hp is pretty shit compared to Ryu’s… I was also disgusted at how much better Ryu’s Metsu Shoryuken hitbox was compared to Shinryuken.
Ken’s cr.HP is garbage for AA just like he’s target combo. DP if you want to play it safe and get the knockdown, Tatsu if your feeling ballsy since it offers more dmg + mix-ups but can backfire hard if you’re not careful. Also be aware that RH Tatsu against an U1 Gief means you eat a free ultra (think this might apply to Hawk and Ibuki too since they supposedly both have 1 frame ultra grabs like Gief, but i don’t have Super so i can’t confirm for sure).
Anyway how do people feel about cr.MP or st.MP as an AA replacement for cr.HP? They sometimes come out by accident when i want a mp shoryu and it seems to do pretty well (er… from what i’ve noticed at least lol).
Hawk is pretty much Gief v2 so yeah you don’t want to tatsu him when he has Ultra or well anytime because of those command throws =. Ibuki is the same, but her command throws ain’t that damaging and most Ibuki players pick U2 to try and punish zoners and super jump into it.
I’ll go cMP and sMP for a while and see how it goes. If his cMP works anything like Juri’s I’ll be a happy camper.
