the MP, HP, LP shoryu still works right?? What was the combo that ed ma does?? where he ends up doing a cr.HP> Tatsu
quoted because this is really important.
i ha no idea, but id love some conformation on this combo.
Erase that combo from your minds, everyone, just pretend (or realize) that the target combo does not exist and you will win matches
Alright…
I’m at work now and won’t be home until after 10 or so tonight… Otherwise I’d just test this myself.
Anyway, does standing jab (close and far) hit crouching opponents? I’m pretty sure my close jab has hit a crouching opponent, but I usually use Sagat as a training dummy, so I don’t know if that just has to do with him being so freaking tall.
Anyway, I was just wondering because it is a shitload easier to time the c.fierce link from standing jab… Just didn’t know if this was viable, since I don’t see the use of it while the opponent is already standing (well… more damage, but a more strict link so the chance to blow it increases) and I don’t really see any of the pros using it much… or at all…
Thanks in advanced, guys.
its character dependent. I know you cant hit Chun with it. Possibley Blanka.
what is a good poke for ken?
i usually do CH. LP and get punished
^^ f+mk and cr.mk
Don’t forget cr.lk
It works great at close range, especially with characters with superior pokes (Bison, Chun, etc).
Thanks, Big Brudda Joe
I’ll test it out when I get home… Don’t wanna look stupid trying to pull off some flash…
So you mean just throw random stuff?
combo still works but its pretty much equivalent to a s.HP->srk(damage wise). better off going with a s.HK den target combo cuz its pretty much not dat great in this game. lol
and i dink ur referring to c.lk->s.lp->c.hp-> ex tatsu?
cr.lk cr.lp -> fierce shoryu works.
The way standing jab works has to do with how the string of hits begins. If you hit the opponent with a cr.jab and they are crouching then you will whiff your standing jab but if they were standing then you can combo with a standing jab. The initial hit must be on a standing opponent to freely link crouching and standing normals.
I set up my combo’s off of cross ups but i try my best to make it hard for people to know if im going to land infront of them or from behind them, this helps open them up but is a bit risky. Either way it works well for combo’s with standing jab in them because they have to stand block to stop the cross up and if they mess up then you can combo on them big.
Incidentally i also doubted the viability of standing jab when i whiffed standing jab alot on blanka. I concluded that the reason was that their attempting to do electricity while crouching and when i stuff it with a short kick cross up i can’t link any standing jabs because of the initial hit being on a crouched opponent.
Either way the initial hit of the combo must be on a standing opponent to be able to link standing jabs without a problem.
you can combo cr lk into st lp on the taller chars even when they are crouching, i think it works on:
sagat
abel
zangief
gouken
fei long
bison
balrog
Thank you, good sir. That’s all I needed to know! I meant to test it last night, but ended up playing a bunch of good players (and one glutton Sagat) for about 2 hours… Only meant to cut the game on for a few mins… God am I tired…
hey i have a question about f+mk. I want to know when doing it blocked and or when it hits what moves can you do after. For example i know when i hit f+mk really close i can get and dp off. Then there are times when i do it from a distance and i would think i should be able to hit cr mk and i get pounced. Any help
I don’t think you can ever get off a guaranteed Shoryuken from f+mk. You are probably just hitting your opponent’s counter poke or something. Also, you probably shouldn’t be doing step kick that close anyway, since it technically leaves you at minus frames on block. You should probably go with c.lp, c.lk, or c.mp at that range.
What you do after a blocked f+mk is pretty much range and opponent specific.
At max range, I like to do c.mk after it (hit or blocked). Usually, I’ll follow this up with a Hadoken (depending on if they have ultra or not, since the Hado won’t combo at this range). When I think the opponent is getting wise to the c.mk, I’ll typically start doing a c.jab afterward to stuff counter pokes. Some charge characters like to do their forward move (headbutt, scissors kick, whatever) after a blocked f+mk. If that’s the case, I will try and shoryu or just block.
At a closer range, I like to follow up with a c.lp. into hit confirm combos. If I think they’re still gonna block, I try to Kara Throw… But, for some odd reason (and this is certainly just my poor execution skills) I tend to get a second step kick when I try to Kara Throw after a step kick…
i got a question about Ken’s c.lk c.lp st.lp c.mk hk tatsu. is the hk tatsu supposed to hit 100%? because everytime i do it a couple kicks miss and sometimes it doesn’t even combo when some of the kicks whiff.
That happens to me against a few characters… And I think it happens against most when your standing jab hits at it’s max range (where it almost looks like he’s punching the air in front of their face). To be safe, just leave either the c.jab or the standing jab. The standing jab is easier to get the c.forward link from, but if your opponent was crouching when you started the combo, then it might whiff… Then again, if they are crouching, your Tatsu is gonna whiff anyway, so… yeah…
