Thanks man. He has started reading my jumps on wakeup and get me with falling sky, though ive started countering his counter, as it were, and will leave a bit more room and perform a Kara throw, or block low then start jabs blockstring / h.srk / tatsu etc…
Hi guys, I have a quick question. How the HECK do I fight Cammy? Especially whens he knows how to beat out the strong + tech OS?
And for the Fuerte match-up, I believe I play an excellent Fuerte, and I devised some good strategies against him.
Watch Fuerte, if you see him run back he’ll most likely do the Tortilla(spinning grab). You can’t crouch this and be safe, BUT, you can do a low forward and he’ll whiff. Two things can happen from this:
- He’ll land behind you, or infront of you giving you enough time to pull off a BnB. low short, jab, low forward > (EX) Tatsu
- You’ll hit him while he’s in the air, causing a “reset” state.
Next is the splash. You can be risky and Strong SRK it, but if the Fuerte is good, he’s baiting that out. My suggestion is to dash out or Focus Attack it. Also, to differentiate this from the run grab, he says something.
Next is the, what I like to call it, Kinniku Buster! If you stay low, he’ll just whiff. He also just grunts when he does this move.
Now, for his wake up, he’ll want to either EX run back to either run away or do the tortilla spinning grab. Kara-throw will beat this. Also, if you’re in the corner, you can do low short jab, as soon as you see him jump up, low fierce will get him.
When he does EX legs on his wake up, if you position yourself in kara-throw distance, as soon as he lands on the other side of you, low forward tatsu. If you don’t, you’ll miss the low forward and most likely eat an Ultra 2.
Oh, and another thing. Stay grounded.
I would post my fights against him, but they’re old and don’t showcase the tips that I mentioned in this post.
Hey I play nashfan all the time and he told me the only ken that can beet him is me n momochi lol.but me n him had a convo about your. Ken and his chunn.he feels like your not scary.when I beat him we always play 99 seconds lots of fireballs and footsies also he has a setup that can’t be dpd but it can be u2d so I use u2 against him.u have to punish his jumps and harzanchus then he will stay on the ground.after that is wiff pushish for wiff punish.also I os his backdash evrytime so he knows beter then to bakdash.if ur not hurting him for those 3.backdash harzanshu and wiffing normals you won’t beet him but if u can do those 3 constantly he will feel it and he will be scared
whats a good OS agaisnt chun’s back dash besides f+mk?
cammy
what can you do against cammys dive kick pressure?
Option-select LK + LP + MP.
When the Cammy figures that out, I’m at a loss.
i like os s.rh it wont punish te backdash but most chuns backdash then sweep or backdash then do sumn lol and the rh will counter hit her. if she backdashes and does nothing the rh shuld at least block stun er. but os tatsu and dp wurk fine on her from the safe jump i wish they wuld nerf her backdash and balrogs
How can I punish Blanka’s electric thing?
sweeps and low forawrds with good spacing.
I’m having problems with a Bison player in my local area. I’m having trouble figuring out my options after a knockdown. After a forward throw, I do a short Tatsu so he loses his back charge but he’ll either teleport or EX-Devil’s Reverse when I go for the mix-up. Is their a particular thing I should be trying to do?
My thoughts would be to use the OS’ed EX or even HK tatsu.
It would punish all teleports as far as I’m aware and it would whiff under the devil’s reverse.
I definitely think it’s worth crossing over with the lk tatsu while he’s knocked down, especially if he has meter because it removes 2 of his escape options yet still gives Ken plenty of mix up options.
The only down side is that it’s harder to OS a DP when you’re not jumping in.
Peace,
G.
Safejump HP and OS a mp.srk when you got him in the corner. This will take out EX psycho crusher, devils reverse (if thats the head stomp) and is U2. Otherwise I think ImagineVC put up a really good OS video on bison.
I haven’t played against all ssfiv cast, but as far as i can see, the guile matchup is pretty hard for Ken, also i haven’t played sfiv games in about 8 months or something like that, now a friend of mine lend me his ssfiv and now i see Ken has a few new good tricks.
Guile is one of the worst ken’s nightmares, since SFII guile is almost a counterpick to Ken.
Blanka,Guile and Dhalsim are proven to be extremely hard for ken, but not impossible. I wouldn’t go as far as saying its a counter-pick, as a ken player the first thing you should do is prepare yourself for these counterpicks instead of avoiding them or switching characters. You can find many tips in the matchup thread and the OS thread as well.
Good luck!
I agree with those 3.
I also find zangeif pretty tough too. step kick and cr.fwd gets you only so far
I’d have to add Bison to that list.
I’d say to abuse st.mp against Zangief. If you hover just outside and inside his green hand range, you can counter poke him very effectively with this. It stuffs ex green hand clean, beats his pokes and recovers in time for you to AA him if he finally gives in and jumps at you.
For me, my worst match-ups are: (Hardest first)
Bison
Guile
Dhalsim
Balrog
Blanka
Fuerte
Abel
I think I play more Bison’s than any other character on XBL these days.
It annoys me when they can basically switch into auto pilot and randomly press s.mk, s.hk, lk.scissors add-infinitum and not really get punished for being so 1 dimensional.
If Ken had even 1 safe special that gave him some sort of offensive pressure I’d be happy, but lp.DP and Fireball are about as close as Ken gets to doing something safe!!

LP Srk will change come AE though ; ;. But that list is something I totally agree with, minus Fuerte(lame the guy out and he’ll crack eventually). Other than that the list is probably how I would order things as well.
The Bison match is so hard, you absolutely HAVE to OS EVERYTHING so he’ll stop doing things and you can pressure him more effectively. But if he gets you in the lk scissor kick pressure you can’t jump from fear of st.rh, don’t SRK for fear of him doing nothing. You just have to take a risk or you’ll just get chipped until he gets tired or fucks up.
good advice!! Il try it out when I can.
but the same thing can be done against abel lol.
st.mp usually stuffs or trades in your favour agaisnt his lame pokes.
I know that I shouldn’t be struggling against Abel. I re-watched your fights the other day and I think I know what I should be doing.
I’m not really losing the footsie wars, st.mp, cr.mp, step kick and even st.mk are all far superior to what Abel’s got.
I tend to struggle against Abel’s who only come forward AFTER I’ve done the hard work. It only takes 1 wrong guess and I’m eating a tornado throw.
I’m gonna work on the following in my Abel matches.
More effective fireball useage (until he has Ultra)
More effective use of close range jump attacking (once you train him to not expect it)
More effective use of backdashing to avoid his pressure game
Better reactions to his wheel kicks
I haven’t put up any videos in ages so I’m gonna make an effort to put up some of my newer matches for some serious critique today.
Peace,
G.
Ibuki advice? I played a tourney today, and everytime I got a knockdown I would combo him for days and win. Then when he started the vortex, i got completely mind ****** by it.
