I feel like that’s the key for all of Ken’s matchups…lol.
Most of what you wrote up I agree and apply to the matchup already. No ultra involved Rufus is not that hard to deal with compared to Vanilla, as in Vanilla everything he did damaged Ken a lot more. However, like I said when he gets U2 the matchup changes a lot. Just wondering if there is more ways to go about the match when he has the Ultra.
Run and zone is my choice…and empty jump on wakeup to get a lk lp combo started. But yeah, just like Abel/Bison Ultra changes the entire match, which is why I will always be against Revenge meter. I think the game would be more balanced without it.

Well I know one thing for sure. Jumping medium punch beats lariat. A lot of people seem to not know that and it will make a HUGE difference in the fight.
I would like to know if anyone can give me tips to fight a very defensive Ken using Ken, I can win being defensive in that situation but I don’t want to. Please help me!!!
If someone is being lame sometimes the only way to win is to lame harder.
If someone is doing nothing but running away waiting for you to come to them they usually have the advantage because they can wait and react to everything you do. Chasing them around keeps giving them that advantage, resist the urge.
Ignore their taunts, just sit and wait.
This is all assuming you have the life lead.
Kara-throw works pretty good if you can keep them on the ground because you’re pretty much out of SRK range and those kind of players couldn’t tech a throw to save their lives.
I’m having slight trouble against Gief. Pretty much just got straight up outclassed by one 40 to zipp all =/ I’d always take off about 3/4 of his life, but could never the job off.
It seems like you can’t apply pressure to his wake-ups at all, where as he totally gets to go to town on you off of one knock-down. All cross-up attempts get beat by lariat. I’ve found that jump in fp will trade, but that’s still hardly anything worthwhile. Empty cross-up into low-shorts get SPD (range on this is ridiculous, i dunno if it’s lag but he was piledriving me from st.mp range, i wasn’t even pressing any buttons too). Only thing that i can think of would be to bait SPD or just straight shoryu, but I’m not a big fan of random uppercuts and baiting seems like it’ll get old real fast
The margin for error is so low in this match-up since each wrong play will cost you quarter of your life from a SPD or in the worst case scenario half your life from Ultra/Super. Two or three wrong moves and there goes the round. Geif’s life and damage output is just too crazy for me. I feel like I need to be making twice as many correct plays than the Gief player in order to just barely scrape out a round… =/
I was playing most of my footsies at around step-kick range. Step-kicks and low-forwards into fireballs are what i relied on most for my pokes but they don’t even put a dent into his life.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! Be it, what’s safe and what’s not, what’s punishable to general footsies/spacing strategies.
You want to fight gief mostly from c.mk range. His walk speed is very slow, so it’s pretty easy to stay at a good range vs. gief. I know Ryu walks backwards faster than Gief walks forwards, Ken’s walk backwards should be about the same as gief walking forward. When I play him, I just punish his whiffed pokes and AA him every time he jumps. Only throw fireballs from full screen(don’t stay full screen, he’ll just build super), or from just outside his sweep range. Fireball pokes are very good vs. gief because he’s always trying to move forward.
Hey guys, I am a Chun mainer who is coming to the Ken boards for some insight. I’m sure many of you have already seen the new tier lists that have come out and have probably noticed that the Chun-Ken matchup is now 4-6 Ken.
Anyone have any insight as to why this is? I personally think Chun and Ken are pretty even, so seeing the tier list at 6-4 was a big surprise to me.
Also, I am aware that tier lists are not to be taken seriously and are only applicable with two players of identical skill - I understand what tier lists are and what they are for, I’m just trying to understand what makes people think this matchup is better for Ken.
hey, i’m a bison player and i’m planning to go to a tournament here in cali soon. i’m trying to identify the options every character can use to shut down the EX Psychocrusher as a getaway option on bison’s wakeup. For example, after the knockdown, ryu has jump in OS DP, chun li can downforward roundhouse and kick from behind, and she also has an OS c.hk or s.hk upon jump in.
What are ken’s options to beat this escape option? If you are extra generous, please let me know how you option select/straight up beat EX Devil’s reverse and teleport as well I know the jumpin OS dp works with ken too vs ex psycho, although i know ryu’s ex hurricane also stuffs the ex psycho and i dont know if ken’s does. thanks in advance for any help!
thanks Joutai. i hope the other kens don’t mind either. i think bison forums wouldn’t mind to be questioned like this as well - it can only benefit those (bison or kens) who want to be educated about the game and want to raise the level of our play. props!
