(OLD) "Dear Doctor!" Ken Match-up and Insight: Ask a question, get an answer!

Countering Bison’s U2:

Hi!

I’m just an average Ken player but i found something in practice mode which i would like to share with everyone here. I apologize if this is old news as i am not a very regular player and definitely not up-to-date with the rest of the ken army. I’m assuming that everyone knows about neutral jump attacks to knock bison out of the U2 but i was looking for a counter when ken is grounded.

Anyways, against bison’s ultra2, i always had problems in figuring out which direction to block in, especially when standing close or within sweep range. However, it turns out that just a well timed standing strong (MP) will knock him out of the ultra. Better yet, you take no damage at all whereas bison gets damaged instead. This also works with standing jab (LP), although you might trade hits.

However, the best part is that both of these tactics auto-correct, so you don’t have to guess anymore. You can even mash s.jab like crazy the minute the ultra starts, and you can knock bison out of it.

@ kensayschar…Man I need to practice that st jab to U2 combo. Never tried it but it sounds like a VERY effective tool if u can do it w/ consistency.

Not me. Blanka cAn just throw out random shit I hate fighting blanca. I wish they’d reduce the damage from his rolling attack a little bit. Anyway, enough whining… All I do know is that electricity on wake up loses to meaty cr lk or crossup j lk so if u ever can score an untechable knock down stay on him like white on rice. And then there’s the obvious suff like don’t throw fireballs when blanca has ex, and watch out for all of his many many gimmicks. I’m afraid that’s all I can contribute. A good blanca wipes the floor w/ me :frowning:

Again this Blanka thing is wrecking my head.

After a Blanka ball, if you block it he bounces a fair distance away. What is simply the best way to punish a ball? I can usually m.punch him out of the ball, but the risk vs reward pay off isn’t worth it for one missed punch.
Perhaps a forward m.kick to get closer, then what?

Jab him out. Its easy and safe

Can’t punish blanka balls with anything midscreen. You can punish them if blanka is cornered, though. Should always be looking for the chance to corner blanka. Opens up big punishes for blanka ball and he has to use an ex meter to escape.

ur best bet to counter that move is mashing out jabs while predicting it, . most blanka hop gimmicks can be shoved up his ass by mashing jab. except hope ultra or hope elctrsty…when u block a horizontal role , kara focus dash into sweep , u will beat all his normals and special moves even ex moves, do it once then mix it up with an over head the time after .

blanka rolls are punishable even on hit in the corner , so corner him first .
poke with a firball from full screen . and if blanka walks forward , he will most probebly go for a slide , so prepare that focus.

if u wanna annoy blanka more than he annoys u , u have to never miss an anti air.

after u score a kara throw, do a low tatsu or a feirce shoryu emmedietly to swich side and mess up his charge so u can limit his option up ball. a crouch mk after the tatsu will beat electrcty and the up ball will whiff .

IMO , ken has an adnatage over a rush down blanka , but looses to a turtle ones .

does anyone have a way to get past rufus dive kick play

Got murdalized by a rog today. One of those patient Duck and block ones. I jump in i get Cr. Hp. So i try the space game. Get eatin alive by ex rush punches. He jumps in and stuffs every anti-air option i tried. any tips. I cannot Kara throw FYI

rely on killing his charge. If you get a knock down. L. tatsu to switch sides. or just jump clearly over him. This greatly limits what he can do. If you successfully break up his horizontal charge. Throwing out a cr. mk to fireball (range is to be outside his throw range)is very safe as it stuffs his headbutt and causes his ex headbutt to wiff for a nice punish opportunity.

Main plan should be to kill his charge. Hope this helps

when playing the footsie game , always buffer ur c.mk with a fairce showryu , beats all his rush punshes and ur in safe zone , and prepair the anti air for jump ins cause u can be anoyying. this is amazingly effective against balrog .

know his rush pushes range , and throw a focus every ones in a while .
ur sweep is safe on block , so abuse it to score a knock down .
always option select sweep when u cross him up on wake up and when u make him loose his charge. ull knock him down off his reversal.

if , u score a kara throw , change ur direction and throw out a meaty c.mk into feirce shoryu . with 2 ex bars , this method is 100%safe . cause his onle option is a head butt.

i know i must be lat ebut what it a meaty attack?

ma meaty attack is an attack wether normal or a special that u execute on an apponent that is just about to wake up , where u hit him with the last few frames of ur attack and leave him in block stun where u recover faster . it stuffs alot of options the aponnent has .
thats why its dangerouse to wake up and throw . because throws loose to meaty attacks that in
turn lead to big combos.

you can c.mp his dive kick pretty easily or you could mp dp. those 2 things are usually what i do.
