also if he keeps getting you with that jumping mk crossup (the really ambiguous one) remember it doesnt combo if its blocked. you can dp him every time after it, and with 2 bars its 100% safe.
hey man, guile can be pretty anoying, what works best with me is just waiting him out until you can get in his face, or get the knockdown,. after knockdown you let the mix up begin, cross him the fuck up, make him lose his charge and abuse the kara throw. sometimes though you just have to wait him out and play his fire ball game till you can get in and punish, hope this helps abit.

Thank you Apollo and Guiseppe for your advice.
Hey guys,
any advice on Ken vs Balrog?? most of my offense game gets shut down the Balrog Jab at some point. Also, whats the proper distance to get a cross up on this guy. I find I miss them a lot on Balrog and Chun.

bait it,short jab jab pause srk, punish his jab to make him not mash it, then u gotta knockmdown, if u see his ex rush punches stand up n grab or upercut orc,mk srk, dnt let him abuze that shit, but realy balrog beets ken n foosties so nokm down and go crazy
turtling balrogs are a bitch. dont go to him, make him go to you this way you know he has no charge. i do this by constantly doing my air tatsu backwards to build up meter and eventually he will come to you thats when you know he doesnt have a charge and you can either step kick him or jump in at him. but your main objective is to knock him the fuck down and keep him the fuck down. once you knock him down go crazy with safe jumps and/or when you knock him down walk up to him point blank and stuff him with the cr.lk bnb tatsu combo, rinse and repeat post tatsu because it will stuff all his options except EX headbutt so be careful with that especially if he has ultra. dont let your testosterone get the best of you and try to have a slug fest with balrog because you will lose.
Balrog makes me want to smash my head against the wall in general, but I’ve found some things that make the fight bearable. You need to find out what type of balrog player you’re playing. They are sometimes focused on a particular tactic. Some examples:
Some Balrog players love to pressure with jab dash punches constantly. There’s no way to punish this effectively if they do it right, but I always try to make sure I’m even in the chip battle. After every dash punch, I retaliate with a low forward > fireball. That makes us even in chip damage. However, this tactic is not completely safe. They can block the low forward, then headbut through the fireball. This is bad, of course, but this is what you are testing. If the player loves to use his headbutt, you simply bait it out and punish the hell out of it with a standing RH> RH Tatsu or EX DP.
Some Balrog players love going through your fireballs with EX dash punches or turn punches and will even do EX dash punches at random from long range just to get in close. Meeting them with EX DP or a straight up ultra will end that tendency in a hurry. If they love the turn punch, I use fierce fireballs exclusively. If you use the jab fireball, it’s actually so hard to time going through the fireball that they will get hit, and if you were reacting to the turn punch and ultra’d you just went flying and they get a free punish.
The last type I like is the player who throws out too many random standing fierce/roundhouses and sweeps. I wait until I see them start to move forward so that I know they’ve lost their charge. Then I kara focus and punish the inevitable sweep.
I know these aren’t always reliable against really really good rog players. I still think this is Ken’s hardest matchup besides Rufus. Still, these are things you can play with that will get you in the rog player’s head if successful.
Lulu, I don’t know if you’ll read this, but I just want you to know that you’re a fucking god for that c.mp+lp+lk OS! This Cammy chick who used to go even with me on average couldn’t get a round in with that shit!
GOOD SHIT!
What is this OS you speak of?
its an os that beat TKCS,c.mp comes out instead of cr.lk.Its very usefull if you block a spike and cammy fadc forward,if you do a standing throw or a normal OS throw you eat a TKCS c.hp,c.mk xx SA combo for much damage
Its not very usefull to smash it since a basic cammy frame trap gonna rape you, cammy st.mp and crouching mp are scary, well its not very useful in generall to press any buttons against a decent cammy.Cammy is prolly top 8 character in the game imo
Think that’s the original post by highlulu.
So it’s basically just a crow tech os, except with an added mp? Damn that’s just way too easy to be true! Gotta try it out next time.
It works. Don’t mash it! if you mash it, your c.strong will start to come out, and she has a change to beat it with a normal. Just hit that when you know either a throw or a TKCS is coming.
Thanks Seth HD.
Anyone know how to handle Fei?
glad that it helped ^^. too bad it works a bit too well for my liking as a cammy main lol
The Fei Long matchup IMO is in Ken’s favor. Just poke him out because he has no wake up options. If he does ex chicken wing on wakeup just option select mp shoryuken and if you think he is going to back dash then do a option select hp shoryuken. His first hit of rekka is safe on block but if he does two of the rekkas it is punishable with hp shoryuken. Also Fei Long’s cr.mp is probably his best normal so if you learn the range of that it is pretty easy to out poke him. Just watch out for rekkas and his overhead.
Im having problems with blanka matchup especialy for turtle blankas. If i knock him down i cant rush him down because of lanka ball so what can i do to make blanka look like a scrub???
Dr.Chaos, are you and MagMan going to ever finish your character strats in the 1st couple of posts?
I need help against Fuerte. I’m good until I get him to half-life, but then I have to stop my jump in mixups because I’m afraid of his ultra. What kind of game should I mainly be playing with Fuerte?
fuerte’s ultra is hella easy to safejump. its actually pretty sad. if you stay at just inside sweep distance on fuerte you can also do very well mixing between step kick and k throw. step kick will beat his run back tortilla and then once he starts getting ex to try use his armor run the k throw will grab him.
They’ve posted somewhere in this thread somewhere saying that they’ve given it up so now it’s just your usual Q and A thread, although they have left the door open if anyone else is willing to take the job on.
Anyway I got a slight question:
Does anyone else feel that Blanka has a sorta weird hitbox when he’s crouching? Seems like sometimes my throws magically whiff when he’s crouching even though I’m right up in his face. Am I just head-tripping or is there actually more to this?
