Okay so, Seattle Marvel yeah!

So naturally last night, I noticed there were a lot of people that would’ve been interested in joining the Marvel tourney if it wasn’t five dollar entry. A noticeable amount at that. Over the past few events, Marvel’s been outnumbered by all the other games for that exact reason. Sort of a bad sign I guess I’d say, considering this is Seattle after all.

“I don’t wanna pay five bucks just to lose to JMar/Row!”
“Five dollars is expensive!”
“I have three dollars.”
“I’ll enter if you pay for me.”

Various different answers I received for asking people if they would wanna enter Marvel. So here’s what I’m thinking, I think, a three dollar entry fee would be good. It gives the winners a little something, and it’s not quite as expensive as five dollars. Besides that, it’s fucking three dollars. Anyway, if you think things are fine as is say that then. If you wish Marvel was cheaper to enter, say that then. There’s a poll, vote or die!

EDIT-Oh yeah, there better be more people if we’re lowering this entry fee. I’m just saying…

I’m grimy and vote for two dollars (but would settle for three). Even the weakest of seattle players tear me up, so throwing down 1/4 of the means to get a dubsack just to get the smackdown laid on me doesn’t sound like a good time. I looked at the brackets and it’s like there’s not a single “ok” player, everyone would rape me  At three bucks, I’d enter more often, at two bucks I’d enter every time. My biggest problems with Marvel are A) air projectiling with magnus, B) dealing with ridiculous assists like commando and tron and C) the cable guardbreak. That shit is just too fucking simple and hard to deal with for the damage output.

Cable is actually the bane of my marvel existence. I feel like Cable (or a losing Storm in a serious match  ) just makes the game progress backwards. Watching or participating in an evenly skilled match between players like Mag/Storm/Sent and even moreso (IMO) the playable but not god tier characters in Marvel is unlike any other game… and then Cable pops in and makes the game more boring than a CvS2 tourney. I get really into Marvel and then I lose to a Cable and subsequently lose my motivation to ever play the game again. On the note of cable’s guard break, I’ve heard things like block (pushblock? probably not) and then airdash or fly but I must be retarded because I can’t do it. My only hope is banking on the 50/50 chance that if I don’t block it they won’t react in time to combo the AHVB… even then, there’s assists people use that invalidate that strategy…

Anyway, sorry I just got on that long whiny rant about Marvel or whatever that was. Really though, as much as I bitch about Cable, I’d play this game anyway if I could just trijump and not throw out an air projectile on accident. You hang there in the air for like 5 seconds and I completely lose my game. My momentum, my ideas on how to get in, everything. I’m just like “ughhhh I just threw a fucking single manual projectile in Marvel” If I delay it or make sure I hit neutral the trijump’s just not at an optimal speed and easy as shit to block. I guess I just need practice… If someone’s willing to sit down with me and actually play for a while, not a rotation (I can’t improve when I play one match, lose really bad and then have to wait too long in between matches… I’m not quite at that level I guess) I’d like to try to get into Marvel. Rotations are also shitty for me because the console rotation is usually larger and I have to play console to use my japstick.

The only games I’d consider myself good at are the ones we don’t play, like guilty gear and 3s. I understand the 3s hate, though. (Still don’t get why no marvel players are into GG too…) and I need more than one game to play at Zach’s. I played like ~10 ST matches in total the entire night, that room was packed! Even my tourney matches had like hours in between them. I guess I shouldn’t complain about a great turnout.

I voted for 3. Still gives Marvel the respect it deserves, but just gets rid of that “5 dollar bill” effect. Sort of like how you will pay twenty ones for something, but handing over the 20 dollar bill just seems to expensive.

Yeah, three is reasonable. You guys fight tough in that shit, I wouldn’t wanna totally rape your guys’ pot.

Dude I think you can do this if you want. It eliminates the possibility of throwing out the pink stuff. :d::uf:(sj) :r: :df: :2p: (air dash DF). You dont even need to go to neutral. Since the air projectile is :u::uf::r::p:. You just dont go all the way to up on the joystick. I’m pretty sure this works. I’ll double check in a little bit. Also you could roll the joystick from down to upforward instead of going from down, straight to upforward. I hope that makes sense. I’m not used to writing out game stuff.
If more people would really enter for three dollars it should be three, I think.

^^ you definitely don’t want to roll the joystick, as with characters like storm who have a QCF projectile you can get a typhoon, which is just as bad. Also, you can opt to do a normal jump trijump, which isn’t quite as execution-intensive.

I voted for $5, just cause I don’t like the whole winner-take-all idea. I do, however, want more people to enter marvel, so I’d be okay with lowering the buy-in. If it’s going to be winner-take-all for anything less than $5, might as well make it $2.

I should clarify by what I meant by…

“It gives the winners a little something”

I said that with the intent on having a three dollar entry fee, with a 70/20/10 split. Naturally a two dollar entry, or a dollar entry, has to be winner takes all.

That sounds pretty simple, I don’t know why I didn’t think of just sjing forward instead of up. I guess I’m just scared to overjudge my spacing and trijump too deep or over them, but that’s way better than air projectile. Thanks.

You have Marvel all wrong, Elias. The purpose with Magneto is to get close and mash buttons, not plan things out. And if you hit people, go with it. If you’re down for some Marvel, though, it’s always my main game.

As long as you’re mashing on light kick, right? I’m down for some back to back matches. I’m not improving with the sparing amount I play real people.

I did one marvel tourney…I think people were kinda looking at me like “wtf? why would you enter this shit if you don’t know what you’re doing?”, but I was just entering to show support and all that. It was fun…but man I need to actually learn that game…

The marvel tournament should be free. There should just be a $5 fee to enter Zach’s house which automatically enters you into the marvel brackets when you come inside. All this talk of “I don’t know how to play marvel” and “I like other games,” does not compute.

Yes this idea is the greatest idea I’ve heard

I back this idea 100%.

Epic.

I would pay money to enter Zach’s house.

Actually, I think the problem is the crowds for other, much more inferior games, has grown. Were there not 46 people for ST, and around 30 for VF5? Marvel peeps need to step it up.

This is the single greatest idea you’ve ever had in your life. This should be enforced starting with the next event.

ST had 22. I don’t know what VF had. People that take an interest in other games are fine. Recruiter fags are annoying though. Those people who go, “Marvel!? Why don’t you come play a real game, like Melty Blood. And later we could suck each other off.”

Wow a tie between three dollar entry and five dollar entry.

I honestly think another reason why other tourneys have more people is because the people that enter those tournaments, actually have hope while they’re playing. That hope gives the tournaments a genuine kind of interest/excitement. People are actually interested in what takes place because they feel that they can compete. In Marvel (at least for me), it’s like going through the motions, you pick your team and play to the best of your ability, fully knowing that either Jason or Row are gonna win the tourney. It’s kinda all for naught I guess, but I’ve been doing this for years as I play because I know how to. But for someone else who’s trying to learn the game, paying five bucks just to get rocked (especially with the lack of sessions between tournaments)…I can understand the apprehension. I guess it’s the double edged sword that is Seattle Marvel.

But I like other games, and if I have to pay 5 bucks just to get into a man’s house I would like to actually put that towards something that I give a fuck about. And sadly Marvel isn’t what I give a fuck about anymore :sad::sad::sad::sad:
A sad face for each dollar.

For me. Zach’s events are a time where I can go and hang out with everybody that I don’t usually see on a regular basis. Marvel, VF, ST, Poker, and whatever other fucking random game people try to throw in this julia child mix is just something to do while there.

In regards to the low marvel turnout. I think it’s more along the lines of the regular marvel people that we would see so long ago just don’t have it in them to play anymore (Jeff and Sean quickly pop into mind), Rat hasn’t been there in a minute. Jmar pops in every now and then, and Row is usually there every time. But out of all the lanwerx people that still go to Zach’s and play competitively are:

Mandel
Zach
Evan
Nolan

This is off the top of my head, and I don’t count Kyle or myself because for us it’s more about fun that the actual competitiveness. Plus people love watching the horrible orchestrated matches that I randomly have. But 5 bucks a pop is steep for a game that I don’t give a shit about. I’m all for having it at 3 bucks though, cause if i wanted to try and play ST as well I would just need 5 bucks and I can enter all three tournaments that are for season 3.

Enough of my nonsense. I kinda forgot what the point of this post was about.

$5 entry fee at the door? Grimy as fuck. Screw that. I pride myself in only spending one dollar when I go to zach’s. I spend enough money in gas on my fucking gashog getting there! Hahah. (I know it wasn’t a 100% serious statement…)
