Oh..now i get why OG's hate new games

The elitism and dick riding here is pathetic and laughable.

Nah it’s true. The typical old school gamer can’t win for shit in newer fighting games. They’re the ones that buy MK9 and go b,b,b,b LP and spam teleport with Scorpion and wonder why it doesn’t work like in “the old days”. They jump roundhouse into sweep with Ryu in AE and wonder why the opponent is able to block their ultimate mixup. Because they used to steamroll everyone at their local arcades with those tactics so they actually think they’re legit. And now when they lose to a 12 yo online they say the game is garbage and that older games were better. They usually think accessible game = easy game with no depth and less skill required to play.

But “OG” is just a stupid term. Technically, anyone over 25 can probably be considered an old school gamer. OP was obviously referring to those old school scrubs and not all old school players.

alludist!

he’s saying he’s seen better!

god damn it I thought they permanently banned you~

I was going to half-joking/half-serious protest the first image “Isn’t even close to Gundam,” knowing you were being fairly silly yourself. Then while looking through variants of the MSA-003 Nemo machine from that franchise, I came across one that equips an incredibly similar backpack/sidepack of extra weapons and thrusters. It even adds the same weapons (larger energy beams, some missile racks, etc.). My only word as the realization sunk in: “…Damnit!

I’m never going to be able to look at MVC1 the same now. Thank you.

He’s speaking from the mind of ClawVegaBalrog.

Vega knows about being elitist and uh, loves himself in every game he’s in!

Obviously the point of my post wasn’t to say OG’s are retarded and don’t understand how new game mechanics work. The POINT of the post was to explain my thoughts on how newer games and their mechanics have changed the dynamic from outsmarting and outplaying your opponent in a relatively pure form to more of a “meter management” style of play.

Example:
Marvel 3. I was watching a match (I believe it was Floe vs. Chris G) and Floe had Strider as anchor. In the first game he had no meter or x-factor and thus (as Ski explained many times) that he was done. Not enough “ammunition”. Second game comes around and Strider has X-factor and 5 meters. Now Ski is explaining how Floe has a very good chance to win. SAME PLAYER EACH TIME (Floe), but the “ammunition” and the amount of meter he had made all the difference in his chance to win.

Another one (For those who say it’s because Marvel 3 is just that ass):
SSF4:AE 2012. I was watching some CrossCounterTV and Gootecks was explaining the importance of meter in SF4. As I watch more and more matches, I start to see the direct ratio of EX Meter to damage. If you don’t have that meter, your ability to win matches is severely hampered. Thus, you could argue that meter management in AE is almost as important as footsies and combos.

THIS new aspect of fighting games (The extra resources to manage) is why we think it is so DAMN hype when J-Wong makes a comeback by himself in Marvel 3. Because he does it without these superfluous resources that let anyone with good meter managment win, and he is just a dang good player.

PS: To anyone saying that I am referring to techniques (like in Marvel 2, guardbreaks, option selects, etc) I am NOT. I am talking about resources that don’t have to do with player knowledge and NOT meters that are separate from player skill.

If your point was your opinion then why didn’t you quote yourself?

nope, just a month or so. Still don’t know quite what I did ><

The entire oldschool/newschool debate is destructive though, most of us actually try and look at each game as it comes regardless of how old we are (and I know old).

I'm not convinced its about simplicity or complexity though either, a lot of beloved older games are just absurdly complex and chock-full of systems. If anything games have been getting *simpler* since the mid 2000s.

Every one should be playing Akatsuki Blitzkampf, Monster Ancient Cline, and Big Bang Beat Revolve.

That is all.

You dont have to be OG to know that new games suck.

kof and vf being the exception.

however I wont deride anyone for liking something that I might not care for, thats just silly.

LMAO.
The games are still about outsmarting and outplaying your opponent, the people who say otherwise are ignorant fuckers that know nothing about the games that they hate.

Sorry but saying mechanics is the reason is poor. CigarBob a great ST player known OG from Arizona friends with Sabre, CigarBob loves Vampire Savior yet that has more mechanics than sf4.

Vampire Savior
Dark Force mode(Each Character’s DF is different some characters have more than one)
White Health(Health that generates back after a while like in HNK)
Guard Cancel
Push Blocking (Multiple strengths too)
Character specific Air Dashing
Multiple supers
Short hops (character specific)
Chaining system

Street Fighter 4
Focus Attack
One super
Rage meter
Focus attack dash cancel

On top of all Jed listed, characters like Jedah need perfect yomi, perfect gaurd cancels and god help you if you miss a renda.

BBHood has to do all of that shit on top of dash links and perfect defense.

Qbee is Qbee.

Its that they don’t like the new games, not becuase of this mystical meter problem you are talking about.

How the fuck is this different from Marvel 2? If Strider doesn’t have meter for Orbs in 2, then he either has to get it quickly so he can start his shit or else. And God forbid he not have Doom (and his rocks) with him.

The system auto-bans based on warning points.

paging @SNAAAAKE >:(

I still don’t see how meter management and outsmarting your opponent are mutually exclusive.

Wouldn’t Renda be included under the VSav list as well?

Yes, even though I main Lilith I keep forgetting it exists yet I use it (cr.LPx2) all the time.

SF4 is simpler than VS, but lists like this are subjective and tricky.

For instance, SF also has EX meter usage, regenerating grey health, armored/armor breaking moves, character specific target combos, etc

~~

I think Tataki hit it right on though, its all about memory and nostalgia.

EX moves came from Vampire/Darkstalkers been there since the beginning of the series.
